Any chance of the details of the Independent Retailer who thinks Freesat is doomed as I would like to understand their rational before I advise my sister on her purchase.

She obviously has a dish, so can get freesat easilly.

IF she has a tv aerial that can receive freeview, then surely the logical choice is get BOTH. That gives her a greater choice of free channels.

She obviously has a sky box, so once she cancels the sky subscription, it will continue working as a freesat from sky box, so no expense therefore for her to get freesat (from sky)

And all tv's on sale now have freeview built in, so you might as well try and see if that works for you, or can be made to work without spending too much on an aerial upgrade.

So it's a no brainer for her to use both surely unless you can give me a compelling reason not to.

Yep, she has a Pace3100 Sky+ box.

- She doesn't have an aerial
- She wants to have '+' functionality so retainin the Sky box as FreesatfromSky is not her first choice.

I think she should get a freeview TV (and add an aerial at a later point) and get the Humax FS+ box.

She is going the Humax Freesat+ route, but Faust's reliable contact is suggsting that Freeview+ bx would be the better choice.

I have always pointed out the free recording functions is about the only reason to scrap a sky box in favour of a freesat box.

She really should get an aerial for the freeview channels not on freesat, even more compelling as by ditching the sky box she will not get fiver, fiveUSA, sky3 etc on freesat, so needs freeview to continue watching them (and a freeview PVR if she wants to record them)

Yep the loss of the '+' is a real downer otherwise it's an obvious choice.

How much are aerials these days as looked ata few sites and no-one quotes a standard rate. I'm guessing around £150.

Depends where you are and what signal you have. I've installed them for as little as £50 (strong signal, simple small aerial and simple cable run) but it's almost impossible to set a maximum for a large, high, expensive aerial with awkward cabling etc.

Hmmm, well where we are in Coventry (CV4 9GT), the signal is poor so it'd need to be a good one. Cable run is easy as TV is on the other side of an outside wall.
