Will this awful r & b and rap music era ever end?
This annoying r & b and rap music seems to have been around for years now, and with no end in sight. And it seems a hell of a lot of people like listening to this trash. Pretty much every day I can hear it playing from nearby houses to me, people in cars playing it loud, and teenagers playing it on their mobiles/mp3 players(or whatever) without earphones on buses. Crappy music and it's so annoying. It seems no one likes listening to decent music anymore.
Will this music ever go out of fashion? |

I liked the good old R&B days from the 90's before it became too comercialised with Jodeci, Silk, Aailayah, Brian McKnight, Joe, SWV, Brandy, etc etc etc. Now its too much but i still dont mind it, its not offensive. Nothing beats the early R&B days though. Rap, never beena good fan but do prefer the old days again of 2pac, Biggie, LL Cool J and now its not so good. (although do like that Flo Rider and David Guetta song!)

My nan's neighbour listens to gangster rap, he's also recently bought some amplifier so it vibrates on the floor even though she lives two floors below him.
I was saying to my mum last night that every car that drives past our house has either house or rap blairing out of their windows. |

But I don't believe what you are referring to is Rhythm and Blues or rap music, it's teeny pop music, they just give them those names to make it sound like there is some thought or artistic merit to it..

Give me r&B over indie music anyday of the week, or trance or metal or country.
But then whatever floats your boat, no one's tastes are better or worse than the next person. |

Rap has been going for over 30 years now. It hit it's peak in the 1980's and early 90's.
I like actual R & B, this modern stuff that shares the same name is coma inducing. |

If it gives kids with no musical talent a way of earning a living by chatting along to a very simple beat, then who are we to complain.

It's not the music I mind - some of which is occasionally quite good - but the social impact it has had. It's definitely been adopted as the soundtrack to the chav lifestyle, and there is a distinct correlation between its rise in chart dominance and their 'visibility'; as if the music has 'empowered' them into thinking they are socially acceptable. Whereas in the past they were largely safely hidden away amongst their estates, affecting only each other's lives in the main, they are now 'out and proud' among us with their uniforms and rituals etc.

nobody tell the op that millions of people in the world like and listen to the music he hates. It'll break his heart with facts or proper perspective.

There is some awful stuff coming out of America these days, it all sounds the same to me. Is it just crap or am I just getting old?
Whenever I tune into Radio 1 these days everything sounds like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgM3r8xKfGE There's always been a lot of this stuff on the commercial pop stations but Radio 1 used to filter out a lot of the really terrible commercial music. A lot of people like it though so maybe there's something deeper that I'm not hearing from it. There was a horrible commercial R&B period during the 90's as well, it went away for a bit but now it's come back worse than ever! |

"decent" music is subjective. what one person thinks is decent, another person will think is rubbish.
just because someone declares one genre of music "decent" doesn't meant it is ... |

R&B isn't too bad - even the modern stuff.
Rap on the other hand is total and utter rubbish created by angry young men, the only difference between whom is the amount of times they've been shot. |

I'm 27 and miss the good old days of the boybands.. especially the music of 1999, There used to be a time when i wouldn't switch off the music channels as every other song was one that i loved. Nowadays, I barely listen to the new stuff, and just keep replaying my A1 / BSB / N-Sync / Another Level and Damage CD's.

just because someone declares one genre of music "decent" doesn't meant it is ... Take the YouTube video I just posted, there doesn't seem to be any tune, I can't imagine this being stuck in my head as it's not catchy in the slightest, and if you listen to the lyrics of a lot of these new pop songs they sound like they could've been written by an 8-year old. |

I'm not about to try and convert you, not at all, but check out this thread for many, many examples of rap music without all the ridiculous posturing. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s....php?t=1331683 If you're in the mood, check this out for an all-time classic .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeN9c2GYJkk |

I am not keen on R&B, not my cup of tea at all, but I do enjoy a bit of rap. Nothing like a blast of NWA to get you going and ready to face the world!

Agree. I hate other types of music, but it doesnt mean the music i do like is superior or the music I don't like is inferior. Its called taste.
