My friend gave me an old 16" widescreen Sony portable. I don't have the instruction manual.
On the screen at the top right there is a G and also an arrow inside a box.

What does this mean ?

Tried pressing all the buttons on the remote but can't get rid of it.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks.

Pressing the 'i+' button (on-screen ident) should get rid of it, but if there's no signal it may be there anyway.

I'm not sure which button on the remote is i+.

On the front of the actual tv there is a yellow button that says G/ and an arrow inside a screen.
Pressing it gives me either the signal from the scart on the back which is a Freeview box or pressing again gives me analogue.

If I go to analogue say channel one there is an 01 on the top right of the screen and it stays there all the time.

The i+ button is the one on the remote labelled i+, often inside a small TV Screen.

Do you have the correct remote for the set, and what is the RM-xxx number at the bottom of it?.

Well I got it from a friend but yes you never know the tv and the remote could be different.

The remote is Sony RM 836

The Sony tv is KV 16 WT 1U

On the remote at the top right is an arrow inside a screen and also another screen with a + inside.
When I press that it goes to analogue with the ch no or press again it goes to the scart input and on the screen a right facing arrow inside a screen.

On that remote it's the button directly below the '9' key, to the right of the '0'.

Unfortunately the button is in different places on different remotes, the TV model number and remote number enabled me to find a picture of the remote in the service manual.

If it's any interest, the manual is dated August 1995, so it's around 15 years old.

Well it's working well for a 15 year old portable telly.

At least it's showing the picture only now.
