Just looking at the officials for Channel Five, according to my calculations Neighbours is down about 21% year-on-year. Its figures are the worst they have ever been in the UK, averaging just 1.87m per episode across its two showings for w/e September 5 compared to 2.38m in 2009.

The fall has been dramatic although I'm at a loss as to the cause for the decline as it seems to have happened so suddenly.

down 21% Susan Bower is in danger of killing the show in the UK as well.

The figures do not paint a pretty picture that's for sure but more figures are needed to see if the trend continues. It could just be an isolated case as the weeks leading up to it don't seem as bad. The return of Home and Away should help matters, although that has been suffering a ratings decline of its own since it came back.

it certianly makes you question what will happen when the current contracts run out, go that is no till 2016 (I think) but if ratings continue like that, the show will be in real troule.

I thinK Five will try and renegotiate their contract for Neighbours and get it at a lower cost as the ratings aren't justifying what they pay for it at the moment.

Sounds good, let's hope it doesn't sink in the ratings. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.”

For those who can't see the artilce!

Quote:
“Gosford Park writer Julian Fellowes is to pen a new drama series for ITV1 about the sinking of the Titanic, made by the producer behind the BBC’s Bleak House.

The mini-series will be timed to air around the 100th anniversary of the tragedy and will be made by Deep Indigo Productions, ITV Studios and co-production partner Lookout Point.

Broadcasters on board the series, edited in 4 x 60-minute and 2 x 90-minute versions, include ITV1, CanWest Global Communications in Canada and TV3 in Ireland.

Post production and all CGI and digital effects will be produced in Canada.

Talks with potential international partners, including the US, are underway.

Nigel Stafford-Clark, who helped make Bleak House, Warriors and The Way We Live Now, will produce the drama that has been written by Fellowes, who won the Oscar for his Gosford Park screenplay and penned forthcoming ITV1 period drama Downton Abbey.

ITV director of television Peter Fincham said the epic drama would be told in “the most gripping, powerful and thought-provoking way.”

“The creative combination of Jullian Fellowes and Nigel Stafford-Clark make this drama a fantastic proposition for ITV1,” he added.

Kevin Lygo, managing director of ITV Studios, said he wanted to make “the definitive drama” for the landmark anniversary.

The story of the sinking of the Titanic has been re-told many times, most notably in the record-breaking movie from James Cameron. But Stafford-Clark said: “We have found a way to re-tell the story that is bold, fresh and gripping, with the human detail that television does so well.””

So it says "will be timed to air around the 100th anniversary of the tragedy" - so the Titanic sank on 15 April 1912.
So should be on around Sunday 15th April 2012 - not long of then!

and Freemanle will say "go away" A deal is a deal.

it is possible the deal has a couple of points, where it can be changed, it would be normal for such a long term deal.

also Five needs to kick Freemantle, butt where Neighbours is concerned, TEN have given up, and have no interest in improving the show, nor it seems does Freemantle, they need reminding who pays for Neighbours, and need to do what they can to keep it a hit in the UK.

well it was Five that wanted the long term deal so I'd be doubtful that there will be break clauses that allow for the cost per episode to decrease. I'd expect there might only be the "nuclear option" available to Northern & Shell ie. cancel the show completely. But even then Freemantle might be able to make Five pay for part of the cost of the show til the end of the contract. So that would be even worse for Five - stil paying and no show!

Five still need to make it clear, they want to see changes. Freementale shouldnt be able to ignore that.

Neighbours has dropped like a rock!

Really hope The Inbetweeners does well tonight! I hope C4 main channel do badly, because IMO they deserve it, sour grapes, but don't care.

Eastenders should be over 9m tonight really.

I don't get the appeal of stories about the Titanic. I'm sure it will be a big hit, there seems all stories about it always are and it's a convincing list of people involved, I just mean I don't get it. It's not like you don't know what will happen.

If ever there was a result proving that the BBC needs to be broken up and given to the Murdoch Empire then SCD's ratings are surely the proof you need.

Good evening for BBC1. Countryfile and Antiques Roadshow both performed as well as usual, and the Heroes Concert surpassed my expectations. I was expecting it to be a bit of a damp squib to be honest and thought BBC1's traditional Sunday night audience would tune over, so ~6m is excellent.

The BoB documentary on ITV1 performed very well compared to how documentaries in that slot have rated recently. But underwhelming numbers for Heartbeat and Albert's Memorial imo. I thought Heartbeat would experience a boost for its final episode but its rating was same week-on-week. I know it had a Corrie lead-in last week but still expected it to get 6-7m last night; 5.8m is respectable to finish on though. Althought Albert's Memorial rated well compared to other ITV one-off dramas from recent years, it really ought to have got 5m+ with David Jason involved, especially since U Be Dead managed that last week. I know times have changed but when David Jason last had a one-off drama on ITV four years ago, it managed 9m+ which was a significant improvement on how other dramas were rating on Sunday nights back then (~7m usually). Even though Sir Jason's star might've waned in the last few years, I thought AM would definitely be a 5m+ banker!

Poor evening for Channel 4. Channel 5 had a pretty good one with Men In Black pulling in the numbers yet again.

Whats a programme log?

Also, CITV has been missing from BARB for a month. Any one know why?

is it possible that ITV are so ashamed of the ratings, they are keeping them hidden?

Overall, they're at about a third of CBBC and a quarter of CBeebies levels. So, all things being equal, their top rated shows should be getting around 100k. Also their ratings didn't seem to improve much over the summer holidays (static at 0.3%), whereas CBBC and CBeebies both did (up from a total of 1.8% in June to 2.2% in August)

Does anyone have any ratings for The Wright Stuff recently? The morning edition. I noticed they are advertising it a lot again.

Slightly odd that Heartbeat didn't see an increase for the last episode but overall, ITV had a decent Sunday night. The Heroes thing did decently as well even though it didn't have the same hype or line-up as the Royal Albert Hall show last year.

Also, perhaps Robbie, Charnham and Glenn aren't the only people hoping for bad X Factor ratings. Apparently ITV had been hoping that ratings would fall back a bit to give them a better position in negotiations and sign a deal for several years at a good price.

Quote:
“All of which led to an intriguing rumour doing the rounds that some ITV bosses were hoping that the latest X Factor wouldn’t exactly do sterling business, to take Cowell down a peg or two, cut production spending and reassert the control of company over talent. Cowell’s unsigned deal was a ”ticking time bomb” according to ITV insiders.

Of course, 12 million viewers flocked to the new series, shifting the power balance firmly towards Cowell and Max Clifford, who was unlikely to be outmaneuvered in any tabloid megaphone diplomacy.

The result is that Cowell gets an extra £1 million on his £6 million a-year deal, X Factor moves to January 2012 to fit his US schedule and SyCo gets to fill more hours of ITV airtime with non-Cowell fronted shows – a new Andrew Lloyd-Webber talent search when X Factor is off air?”

Of course, I'm sure the exact details will change about 20 times before any official announcement!

Slight o/t but just realised that Corrie's live episode/50th anniversary celebrations will air on the same week as the XF final. That will be a huge week for ITV and I'm sure it'll be promoted as such. Just a shame that the 50th anniversary episode airs on the Thursday and the live episode on the Friday-traditionally the weakest performing days for Corrie.
