Solid night for BBC1. EE's highest rating in a while-the aftermaths of big stories on Mondays always tend to get better ratings than the big story itself. Who ending on a low, but it has performed very well this series and Traffic Cops performing well in a new slot.
Good peaktime (7-10pm) numbers for ITV1-better retention than I expected for Bouquet, but outside of that things seem to be falling apart. Awful for Daybreak and shocking to see it below a 20% share . The first of BB's replacements makes a good start in what seems to be an unusual slot for a Jamie show & Ch4 seem to be bringing a lot of their favourites back now the Autumn season has started (Jamie, Ramsay, Grand Designs, CDWM, Embarassing Bodies, 8OTC), but the new shows (Gap Year & Teenage Revolution) don't seem to be making much of an impact atm. Strange to see LFSF increase, but I think we've only noticed because we seem to monitor the ratings for it so closely . Probably a temporary thing though.Amazing for The Inbetweeners-have to say I watched it last night for the first time, but only from word of mouth and it was fantastic. E4's equivalent of Gavin & Stacey and if those figures continue I can see a move to CH4 pretty soon. |

If they can rush the Inbetweeners film out it has the chance to be one of the most successful British comedy films of all time
Most of the facebook statuses I saw last night were linked to the Inbetweeners |

Fantastic ratings for The Inbetweeners. Even though it was only half an hour, it made a big difference to E4's share for the day.
It had 1.67m viewers aged 16-34 (64% of the audience) and 1.46m ABC1 adults (55% of the audience). Among younger viewers (16-34), it was 56% male and 44% female. Adults 16-34: BBC1 - 13.0% ITV1 - 12.8% C4 - 8.3% E4 - 7.8% Five - 5.7% BBC2 - 4.5% BBC3 - 3.3% ITV2 - 3.3% Up significantly from 5.2% last Monday. On another note, 570,000 for School of Comedy after The Inbetweeners is pretty bad. All info from Channel4Sales. |

Excellent demo performance for The Inbetweeners as well, especially among adults 16-39 which easily eclipses the 1.21m in that demo that watched This is England on Tuesday. Advertisers must love this show.

Still an excellent performance especially for a UK commission on multi-channel and something E4 should be proud of.
I mean, The IT Crowd, Peep Show, The Inbetweeners etc aren't the best scripted comedies of all time, but they're certainly a hell lot a lot better than anything the BBC has commissioned over the last few years. I think Channel 4 should be applauded for putting so much effort in to homegrown comedy over the years. Something none of the other commercial channels put any thought in to at all. |

It's amazing to think that Channel 4 (and its spin-offs) can commission what the BBC can't.

Comedy has always been Channel 4's strong point and that evident with shows like Inbetweeners, Peep Show and The IT Crowd. I do wonder how it would fared had it transferred to Channel 4, 3-4m?
Do wish they would reestablish the Friday Night comedy block with a mix of US and British comedy. |

Who do you think you are? suffered a little against ITV opposition for once.
Possibly as Alan Cumming is not as well known as some others given his exile in the US (though he is terrific in The Good Wife). However, it was a stunning episode with possibly the most remarkable denoument of any since the show started.
Spoiler
So maybe word of mouth will make it pick up more from the BBC HD repeat. By the way Richard Madeley said on This Morning the other day that he is to be in the next series if his family prove interesting enough after genealogical research. Apparently Michael Parkinson did not get into this series because his were not.

Jay Hunt will leave BBC1 in January and will become Chief Creative Officer of Channel 4. Following Kevin Lygo's departure earlier this year (he now runs ITV Studios), the job had been covered by Julian Bellamy who will leave Channel 4 after a "handover" period.
Danny Cohen is expected to be promoted from Controller of BBC3 to run BBC1. He was previously Head of Factual Entertainment and E4 at Channel 4. |

Got a source for the "Danny Cohen" bit? I can only find a reference to Jana Bennett taking over pro-tem.
