I see ITV have stuck DCI Banks into the 9pm slot on 27/9 with no press pack/launch or announcement. Genuine question-Are they trying to tell us something about DCI Banks?
----------------------------------------------------------------------- A survey conducted in my head reveals that 80% of the Great British Public were willing Daybreak to fail because they thought Christine Bleakley had started to believe her own publicity. ITV have made a judgement based on column inches and the idea of getting one over on the BBC. The are they-aren't stories in the press convinced ITV that Chiles and Bleakley were some new golden couple. In truth, TOS is wallpaper TV which people who don't like Emmerdale have on in the background as they settle down for the evening and it doesn't matter who presents it as long as they're halfway competent. We need to wait a few weeks or months to get a true picture of how Daybreak is doing. And it's always possible for ITV to revamp the revamp at some point. |

Grand Designs return to fantastic numbers even though its down on last years opening, while the rest of C4 does quite poorly.
Daybreak its getting such a hard time from all angles and am wishing for figures to increase...And Live From Studio 5 now staying at the 400,000 mark, doubling its figures from last week. |

John Inverdale is definately the athletics host.
I don't think they have confirmed who is hosting the opening cermony or main presenter but i'd be surprised if Sue Barker got demoted after the ageism debate, a lot of the press have been speculating, with a lot of contradictory reports. I suspect Gary will join Sue as co presenter of the ceremonies like 2004 when she was joined by Steve Rider but it could also be Jake Humphrey as he is supposed to be on the up and he is going to the Commonwealth games and missing F1. Huw Edwards will probably commentate on the ceremonies like 2008 with Hazel Irvine. I'd perfer hazel on her own. I think we will have a clearer picture after the Commonwealth games, if Gary doesn't go I can't see him being the main presenter of coverage in 2 years time. Having not anchored a single piece of Olympics or Commonwealth coverage in recent times. If he was getting the main role I suspect they would have had him do coverage of other games beforehand and not throw him in at the deep end in 2012. Huw will almost certainly commentate on the ceremonies. I think the Opening Ceremony is really a cultural event & not a sports event so they would never let someone like Hazel do it on her own. Huw seems to do a lot of big events now - I note he is fronting the coverage of the Papal visit. |

CW Premieres
After 8 so far and ordered by W18-34 - A18-34 - A18-49 - Viewers
1. The Vampire Diaries - 2.9 - 1.9 - 1.6 - 3.36m 2. America's Next Top Model - 2.1 - 1.4 - 1.3 - 2.84m 3. Hellcats - 2.1 - 1.4 - 1.2 - 3.07m 4. One Tree Hill - 2.0 - 1.4 - 1.1 - 2.14m 5. Gossip Girl - 2.0 - 1.4 - 1.0 - 1.84m 6. Nikita - 1.8 - 1.3 - 1.4 - 3.57m 7. 90210 - 1.8 - 1.2 - 0.9 - 1.96m 8. Life Unexpected - 1.4 - 1.0 - 0.8 - 1.65m Not a great start for this season. Every returning series was down from last year, Nikita clearly isn't going to replicate the success of The Vampire Diaries and the only bright spot was that Hellcats did far better than The Beautiful Life last year. But last nights ratings show Hellcats down 19% to a 1.7 rating with W18-34 despite its ANTM lead-in rising this week to a 2.2. |

Iv no idea whether the 3.8 million Champions League rating means that ITV gain, break even or lose out financially, but MOTD gets more sometimes stuck away after 10.00. Given that teams can lose two games and still get through, and also that the standard of some of the teams is dubious it does rather make almost all of the pre Christmas section non-descript. Its actually started to bore me which, at one stage, I could never have seen myself saying.
Solid for BBC1 last night-"solid" being a word used more and more regarding BBC1 its seems. |

On a motorbike? I can't remember that but I do remember the titles in general, as you say it was a bunch of young trendy people dancing around to a dancey theme tune, then an almost subliminal shot of Les, in electric blue jacket, pointing at the camera, blatantly cut in at the last minute, looking about a hundred years old. I've not seen that for nineteen years, but that image has really stuck with me.
I love this conversation. The bonus of That's Showbusiness in the early years was Cuddly Kenny Everett, who was always brilliant, and it lost a lot when he went. It did go on for ages, though, I remember in 1995 the series ran for about 26 weeks and seemed to be shown on every single day of the week at some point. ![]() I don't remember That's Showbusiness ever having good ratings, but I suppose it must have rated a lot better than A Question of Entertainment, which I always suspected That's Showbusiness had sprung from. A Question of Entertainment lasted for one 18-part series in 1988, and every edition seemed to feature a clip from the film Throw Momma From the Train! Anyway, that series went out on Sunday nights at 7.15pm, and I'm guessing it rated badly, as it never returned.

it was therefore a good decision to make it 30 mins. And any voices that said it would be harmed by Ian Wright's departure were completely wrong.
But could LFSF be harmed when 'Strictly-It Takes Two' returns shortly? |

Getting rid of Ian and cutting by half an hour has helped but TBH I'd get rid of Kate and Jayne and replace them with more suitable presenters. The show's on borrowed time anyway because I imagine it's not cheap and they could get the same ratings with a repeat.

It had quite good opening titles/theme tune if I remember. I used to switch over when the programme itself started.
![]() I wish I remembered Takeover Bid a bit more. I do vaguely remember the hat stand nonsense, and it having a cheesy theme tune (I remember not the lyrics - did Bruce sing the theme tune?), but not the quiz itself except it was too confusing for my parents so we never got to watch it. Fast Friends was tripe. It debuted well I think, but millions of Les/Blankety Blank fans must have sat there open mouthed in bewilderment. The Beeb should have kept Blankety Blank going, but in the Friday/Saturday slot it deserved. Yes, Bruce sang the theme tune for Takeover Bid. It had vague hints of rap, as I recall. ![]() Bruce:I'm gonna make a Takeover Bid for you. I'm gonna shake you up and get rid of you. The time has come, The wipeout's here. I'd like to say I'm sorry, But who's sincere? Takeover Bid... Female backing singers:Take it over. Bruce:Takeover Bid Female backing singers:Take it over. Bruce:First on the grid, First on the grid, To take over you. ![]() ![]() ![]() Actually, those first few lines look quite sinister in print!

US Ratings - Wednesday 16th September
CBS:
8pm – Survivor - 12.00m (3.9) * Season premiere * Up 11% from 2009 premiere 9pm – Big Brother - 7.90m (2.9) * Season finale * Up 11% from 2009 finale FOX: 8pm – Masterchef - 4.76m (2.0) * Season finale * Down 20% vs last week NBC: 8pm – America’s Got Talent - 16.05m (3.7) * Season finale * Up 6% among adults 18-49 vs 2009 finale * Peak 9.30pm-10pm - 18.93m (4.6) * Averaged 3.1 from 8-9pm & 4.4 from 9-10pm 10pm – Outlaw - 10.90m (2.4) * Series premiere * Now moves to regular Friday slot CW: 8pm – America’s Next Top Model - 2.90m (1.3) * Up 7% with A18-34 vs last weeks premiere * Up 5% with W18-34 vs last weeks premiere 9pm – Hellcats - 2.68m (1.1) * Down 14% with A18-34 vs last weeks premiere * Down 19% with W18-34 vs last weeks premiere Tvbythenumbers In the big reality TV battle, Masterchef got squeezed out with pretty poor numbers for the finale. I thought that with a Survivor lead-in, Big Brother might top a 3.0 but a 2.9 still ties its season high. America's Got Talent was up around half a million in total viewers and 6% in the demo. Its final half hour peak was somewhat higher than last year in both viewers and A18-49 with the overall average lowered by the first half hour which was below 13m and had just a 2.8 rating. The 16m average was the largest ever audience for the series. Outlaw won't make it past 13 episodes. If it can only get a 2.4 following on from AGT, it's going to flop on Fridays. But CBS will be encouraged by the performance of Survivor in its new slot. Bad news for The CW, Hellcats declines are disappointing especially when ANTM was up from last week. |
