Big Brother has jumped a bit in recent weeks and on current form, could average more than So You Think You Can Dance this summer and achieve year-to-year growth for the second consecutive season.

CABLE:
MTV - Real World: Back To New Orelans - 2.17m (1.3)

The New Orleans series of Real World seems to be doing well for MTV. Though it could be getting a lift from an improved performance by MTV in general due to Jersey Shore & Teen Mom.”

So glad BB has got great ratings. It was the highest in the 18-34 demo for 3 seasons. It was up in all demos and total viewers from last season.

Also, I'm glad that The Real World has bounced back after the last awful season in the shape of Washington DC.

Full BB statement from CBS:

Quote:
“
“BIG BROTHER” DELIVERS ITS HIGHEST ADULT 18-34 RATING IN NEARLY THREE YEARS

Wednesday’s Edition Attracts Its Largest Audience on Any Night Since September 2009

“Big Brother” Sweeps Its Time Period and is the Night’s

#1 Program in Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34

Wednesday’s edition of BIG BROTHER delivered its highest adult 18-34 rating in nearly three years, its largest audience since last September and was the night’s #1 program in adults 18-49 and adults 18-34, according to Nielsen preliminary live plus same day ratings for Aug. 25.

BIG BROTHER WEDNESDAY was first in households (4.7/08), viewers (7.88m), adults 25-54 (3.2/10), adults 18-49 (2.8/09) and adults 18-34 (2.5/09). BIG BROTHER WEDNESDAY was the night’s top program in both adults 18-49 and adults 18-34.

Last night’s BIG BROTHER was the highest-rated broadcast of BIG BROTHER with adults 18-34 since September 18, 2007, the highest-rated in adults 18-49 since September 15, 2009, and most-watched telecast since September 8, 2009.

Versus the comparable broadcast last year, BIG BROTHER WEDNESDAY was up +4% in households (from 4.5/07), +12% in adults 18-49 (from 2.5/07), +39% in adults 18-34 (from 1.8/06) and added +600,000 viewers (from 7.28m, +8%).”

That's a massive leap among adults 18-34 compared to its overall performance. Does anyone know of any obvious reason?

It's possible that it's increased ahead of tonight's show which will see 2 evictions (one of them is a surprise) and 2 Head of Households. If this isn't the reason then I don't know why there was an increase, there's wasn't really anything particularly special about Wednesday's episode.

I don't know however I think having POV Wednesday back to back with Eviction Thursday has really helped it a lot.

It's competition was Masterchef,, which has ratings good enough for renewal, but I'm not sure how big the overlap for the 2 programmes was.

Why did someone at ITV headquarters think that The Saturdays would actually draw for ITV2?

The Hotel Inspector did well.

Nice figures for The Hotel Inspector to close the series. That is really crap for ITV2. Even Jedward had better figures (326k)!

Saturdays deserving of their rating. Hopefully it will make ITV2 think again when throwing these daft documentaries about- first to Jedward and now to them.

Mistresses had a very solid run, I mean I know it was only 4 episodes long, but it fairly maintained it's figures thoughout. Dieing to see what BB got!! Wonder what the hold up is?

Unfortunately Channel 4 Sales, DS nor Broadcast have updated yet.

With it being Bank Holiday this weekend, I'm not sure if DS will actually update this weekend, or whether we'll be waiting until Tuesday.

We will be, I am working across the Bank Holiday weekend so the ratings shall be up in good time.

Florida: Paradise Lost pretty much in line with the rest of ITV's factual output and moving The Bill hasn't worked at all so far, because I reckon The Bill would have started to increase on Thursdays with very little crime drama competition.

Quite low for Emmerdale last night-not sure why either, because Thursday is normally its biggest day.

Strong end for Hotel Inspector pretty much in line with last series.

Good for Hotel Inspector, ofcourse this week it has no Undercover Boss to compete against which must have dent it.

Not bad for ITV for the Florida doc, in line with their other one and less than 1 million behind drama on BBC1

Fantastic for BB, Ultimate BB is really turning into a proper event for them, there seems to be a buzz about it, I was out last night and heard so many people saying, they had stopped watching a while back but that this is unmissable.

Do you think it would have been a better idea to have cancelled BB11 and had UBB run for 8 or so weeks this summer instead?

It's got me tuning in unlike the past few series. But I suppose it depends on how long the former stars would have been willing to stay. Maybe they wouldn't have been as keen for a longer run.
