That interview was quite a while ago IIRC.

And who has "ruled in or out live eps as late as August?"
It's been rumoured since like May and they would have known about it far before it being realeased!

It was a mistake for them to ever rule it out if they knew it was a possibility. Kim Crowther only left in early Spring and she outright ruled out the possibility so the fact they didn't know they were doing a live episode as late as April is all a bit odd they should have been planning their anniversary for a good couple of years like EE.

As I say no problem with them doing it. Just the fact they ruled it out and are now doing it is going to get people saying they're trying to emulate the success of EastEnders. Ah well I doubt EE will care they do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

To be honest Corrie has been of little interest to me and it seems many others for months now so I guess it makes no difference to me what they do.

There's little doubt that Corrie is doing a live episode because they've seen that it worked well for Eastenders. But then again doing live episodes to get higher ratings wasn't anything new when EE did it.

I can't see Corrie topping Eastenders. I hadn't watched EE since "Who Shot Phil" but the thing was so heavily promoted on the TV channels, in the media and non stop on Radio 1 that I gave in.

I'm sure ITV will promote it with ads during The X Factor and so on but I doubt they'll be able to make quite as big a deal of it and Corrie doesn't tend to get the same press as Eastenders anyway.

well i think there going to take the slighly different route of tie in's with 5 various "Best of British" companies. i.e to have themed products etc and have Corrie branding on the products. These are the companies

- TV sponsor Harveys
- Bread brand Warburtons
- Imperial Leather
- Holland's Pie's
- Typhoo

I don't think you can get much more promotion that Corrie Bread,Tea, Shampoo or Holland's Rovers Beef and Veg Hotpot

I watched TXF tonight, it was staged in Dublin and I live there, so curiosity got the better of me. I hear so much about TXF production so I'm beyond shocked, I thought it would be amazing, maybe they hold off the good stuff till the LIVE shows, just surprised, because everyone here goes on about the production quality and it made Tonights the Night look slick

OK, thanks. Shame about "Pulse", but it sounds as though "Touch" will fill the void!

Maybe they were so busy trying to remove (or at least reduce) the effects of autotune that they didn't worry too much about the actual content and structure. But it was even more formulaic and predictable than usual tonight. From the way the whole Dublin auditions were put together and the subsequent ridiculing of Louis, to the fact the best audition was saved until the end and made to look like the last of the day, to the way Simon asked for a second song from that girl who was a little too cabaret. Seen it all before! Even the delightful Katy Perry couldn't save tonight's show from being utterly underwhelming.

Also didn't like how they filmed some contestants carrying out their mundane day jobs; for example, the lady who worked on the tills at Tesco. Apart from giving the game away, it added no value whatsoever. If she was an astronaut or something then fair enough, but a retail worker? We all know what a supermarket looks like so hearing that information would suffice, we don't need to see it as well. Just get on with it and cut out all this nonsense in between.

After a strong start last week bar autotune-gate, this was a really poor episode for The X Factor's standards. I'll rate it a generous 3/10 and I'm not expecting it to top 10m.”

Excellent post, agree with all of it, it was really shoddy, and terribly produced.

Looks like nearly everything was down yesterday. That's X Factor's most watched 2nd episode ever (and comfortably too). But what might be concerning for them is that the drop from episode 1 to 2 was 12% which is the biggest episode 1 to 2 drop from any series. It's difficult to say why that happened but they'll be hoping there isn't another similar drop next week.

Oh, autotune tuning people out? I still its quite a good rating. People can pick the following to use if they wish lol...

- Autotune scandal has obvious effect on ratings
- Ratings across the board were down
- It was always going to dip until we get to live shows
- Officials will be a lot higher
- It's a bank holiday weekend, people are out getting drunk
- They didn't see it in protest

Perhaps Eastenders did a live episode because it worked well for Coronation Street when they did it?

Does Tonight's the Night figure raise a question about recommission with just over 2m? Poor for them until 9pm.

X Factor did OK, expected a drop for the obvious reasons.

9.8m is still a very good rating and the highest rating ever for the second audition show of TXF. Previous high for episode 2 was 9.4m in 2008.

I'm no big fan of the X Factor but an overnight figure of 9.78m is still very very good for any show during late summer, I don't think ITV will be concerned too much as these type of shows bounce all over the place in the ratings.

Would love to know how In Bruges did too. Seeing as Bourne only got 2m is not a good sign. Bruges is so funny.

Some terrible ratings for BBC1 last night, they will be hoping the new series of Strictly comes sooner rather than later.

I'm surprised this and Live at the Apollo hasn't started to flag yet in the ratings, I think I've seen every episode 10 times. They need to find something else to show in this slot.
