The CSI Trilogy did really well. Good to see Railway Adventures over 1m as well.

E4 had a really good night all round except for Smallville which has not been rating as well this series as it has done in the past.

So BBLB does do well, or is that a one off?

No, I was referring to The Bill's performance. Based on last night's figure I would think its final episode will get 4m, maybe a bit more, certainly can't see it reaching 5m. That's quite poor giving the programme's history - indeed its recent history. It was doing all right until ITV moved it to 9pm.

BB's rating for last night was good (he says begrudgingly). I'm sure C4 are v hapy, especially as it was over a nearly-3-hour period.

It's never normally that high. Must have been boosted by the finale.

It would have been a nice touch if they could have got Dermot back for the last one. (I know he did a few VTs last night, but it's hardly the same)

Name me one other show Channel 4 have that is capable of winning a slot in Primetime-I suspect it's difficult because they just haven't got one and that's why it's such a terrible decision for C4 to axe it.

The ultimate housemates reminded me last night of all the hugely interesting and complex characters that have entered the house over the years and the fact that we are never going to discover any more such characters in this format

Easily confused, slap bang in the middle of BB discussion so I go off on one

I think many people have moved on from The Bill and probably don't even realise its the final one (thats if people even realise its still on!), but I imagine there will be a lot of news coverage next week which could see it around 4m. I can't see it much more than 4.5m though.

And in other ratings its good to see Hollyoaks slowly creeping back up and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire clearly hasn't been helped by the revamp. I think its a dead format no matter what they do.

Dare I mention a certain property show again...

Cheer up. It's looking very likely that Channel 5 will pickup Big Brother from 2011 onwards.

I'm not sure. But even if they don't, I doubt it makes much of a difference. Maybe 20-30k at most?

I think a lot of it could be the sympathy vote as this is the last final. Should Channel 4 have renewed the contract, they could have been left with a dying and expensive show.
Still reckon UBB will tank totally when it's shown against Peggy Mitchell leaving Eastenders. However, Channel 4 probably won't care as it's BB's last day.

Jedward tanked totally last night, attracting 300,000 viewers. Makes you wonder if a curse is being placed on anything to do with The X Factor.

The provisional schedules for C4 that night is:

I honestly don't understand why they're beginning the final at 7.30pm, that's way too early. And it'll be dented by EastEnders. Looks like a good evening for BB fans though

Thanks! It does seem a strange decision to start the final so early-I don't think I've ever known any Big Brother episode to begin at 7:30, but the 10:30pm hour should at least post good ratings!

Thinking about it, I suppose by starting at 7.30pm, they have a half hour headstart on EastEnders and can try to hook viewers into watching the whole show. If they started at 8pm, some potential BB fans might've watched EE.

Unfortunately due to the tougher competition, I can't see Peggy's exit getting the ratings it has the potential to. I bet it still will do well, but not as well as if it was on another day.

But BARB consistently shows a much higher percentage of HD share on pay multichannels.

First example I found from this week's BARBs.

Discovery, Monday Aug 9th. How the Universe Works, SD 44,000, HD 14,000. So 24% were watching in HD.

Yeah, but that's a nice fancy documentary which I suspect people will want to watch in HD as it would genuinely enhance their viewing experience.

I don't think there's much demand to watch something like BBLB and Big Mouth in HD!

What'll be interesting now is to see the retention tonight for Ultimate Big Brother, and if it'll go back under 3m, or if it'll stay between 3m and 4m.

True, but BBC HD shows nice fancy documentaries like Coast and only pick up a 2.5% HD viewing share. (2.23m HD, 71,000 HD). That's a tenth of Discovery's HD share!!

And look at the recent tennis figures.

Eurosport HD

WTA Tennis, Sunday 10pm, HD8,000 - SD 22,000, 26% HD share.

Look at the Wimbledon final and you get 4.41m SD and 221,000 HD that's only 4.7% of viewers watching in HD.

Wonder if when Big Brother ends, there will be state funeral live from Elstree.

Ever thought that those watching on Eurosport maybe hardcore viewers, whereas those on BBC are not hardcore viewers and don't really care what they watch it in?

Does the actual final really need to last 3 hours? They had less than that for a final and a launch last night.
