What happened to the hour-long Friday One Shows?

I thought that was the whole point of signing Chris Evans for this autumn?

talking of the hour long One Shows, in the DS review of Daybreak it mentioned that the hosts have not done a show longer than 30 minutes together, which isnt true, they used to host 1 hour The One Shows.

If, on the very slim chance, X Factor isn't back next year, I'd put a hell of a lot of money on Channel 5 ressurrecting Pop Idol to try and cash in.

Turns out they are just showing them in a different order to how they were recorded.

I wonder where the Christmas special will be scheduled? It would be nice to see it on Christmas Day maybe, just for a change.

Five News just reported on this. Cowell is putting the American market first so British version is being put on the backburner basically. ITV won't confirm or deny but say they are looking at a "number of options" for the series. From where I'm standing their options are pretty limited. Also said it's looking more and more likely that Cowell will take Cheryl with him for the U.S. version. I'm sure they will just love her Geordie accent over there!

Clearly Jeremy Kyle's rating was not worth reporting. Seriously, nice to see DS report some daytime stuff. (I do think though that the daytime ratings, if a report is justified for 'events' like Friday and today should go in a separate article? Thoughts?)

Not sure if Dinner Date will get recommissioned, I bet some plonker at ITV will recommission it, then shove it on in primetime.

Michael Ball is flopping. The share for Dinner Date is quite good based on the limited numbers for daytime we've seen before. Apparently the last series of Loose Women averaged a 14.5% share, so Dinner Date nearly matched that on Friday. Escape The Country does really well for BBC2, not too far off BBC1 and beating the others.

My worry for ITV would be when was the last time they developed a successful light entertainment/reality TV offering without Cowell's involvement? I agree that Cowell and Cheryl leaving would leave them in a very tricky situation. I certainly don't see how Cheryl could balance the UK and US show, in addition to her music career.

I guess one option could be to simply show X Factor USA on ITV1 but I presume (and hope) they have better ideas than that.

Dancing On Ice or Take Me Out. Both would run well in the autumn although no necessarily reach TXF heights.

Dinner Date should be recomissioned and added to the pool of 2pm shows including House Gift, 60 Minute Makeover etc, it would fit in quite well. It probably isn't strong enough for the 3pm/5pm slot, especially not up against Come Dine With Me.

It would be a massive risk but moving Dancing on Ice to October-December and running X Factor 8 from January-April 2012 could work, the knock on effect being BGT moves from July-September. Dancing on Ice against SCD could be a disaster waiting to happen even if not head to head, but could go either way.

The tranquilising effect of HUTH coming to effect again. It must be rather galling for ITV that the supposedly glamorous live operation that is This Morning is so comprehensively squashed by what are daytime fillers on BBC1.
We should all be grateful if it stops the triumphal tweats of Phillip Schofield!

Isn't it just lovely how close the big 5 are at 5pm? We don't have the rating for Five News/Neighbours but I would guess around 1.0m across the hour.

Although it is slightly dissatisfying that BBC One and BBC Two came first and second respectively when they were the only two out of the five to run repeats in that hour.

I don't think they should bring back Pop Idol, mainly because X Factor is basically an evolution of that and it would be taking a backwards step. Popstars could return though, especially with the success of Girls Aloud and Cheryl now on X Factor, that would be a very good marketing tool for it. But it runs the risk of looking cheap and dated when X Factor is a very slick and glossy production which has been perfected over 6 years.

This is actually one of the reasons I can't see Cowell taking X Factor off the air for any length of time. It wouldn't exactly be surprising if Simon Fuller showed up at ITV and said "hey, I hear you need a talent show. Remember Pop Idol?". And lets face it, what other options do they have? There's no indication, either at the BBC or ITV, of any kind of entertainment genre that would be able to take the place of the talent shows. So they'd probably take it and that obviously presents a risk to The X Factor. Same if they brought back Popstars.

I also don't understand why it's being reported that XF will be back in autumn 2012? It won't be a problem if XF US flops. But if it succeeds, then what's the difference between running it in autumn 2011 and autumn 2012?

It seems that ITV, Syco and Talkback Thames have taken a while to realise that, contrary to what they were all saying in January, this does present a bit of a problem.

I'm sticking to what I said at the weekend. Phase Cowell out of XF. Bring in another music industry exec with some clout (I'll nominate Craig Logan of Bros fame who managed Pink & was MD of RCA Records - plus he was engaged to Dannii Minogue). Take some of Simon's appearance fee (about £5.5m for XF) and give it to Cheryl as part of a big new deal to stay on the UK show.

Yes, ITV should be focussed on ensuring X Factor keeps on going as successfully as it is now. But there comes a point where it's just a ridiculous amount of disruption.

One final reminder from me on this, I hope you won't mind- it's a big week of TV coming up with the start of Daybreak, the final Big Brother on Channel 4, Peggy's EastEnders exit, the return of Strictly, Merlin, and New Tricks plus many more new and returning shows. They should really publish reach figures for long programmes that are intended to be dipped in and out of.

I agree, breakfast TV is slightly different to ordinary TV and should be treated as such. Its also inevitable that the headlines will be less than 1m watched Daybreak but 6m watched BBC Breakfast. The Daily Mail gave it a glowing report though, so they might shock us.

Shows how reliant they are on him now as their only other LE success is I'm A Celeb, and that's becoming tired out now. I can remember ITV axeing Op Knocks and New Faces in 1978 as they were seen as having run their course, even if ratings were still high, but their cancellation didn't inspire the same kind of panic that Cowell cancelling his shows would nowadays. It just shows that ITV is Cowell, Celeb Jungle and Coronation St now.
