How'd you mean, in terms of content? Must admit I hadn't thought of that. Not sure if the material would need to be adjusted for it to be suitable for 6pm.

It might not work in terms of numbers either. They previously tried moving the 4:30pm programme to 6pm and that didn't work. But it's hard to see The 7pm Project losing too many viewers if it moved to 6pm and it would make for a better lead-out from the news. Plus rather crucially it would allow them to launch their new bulletin out of the way of Australia's top 2 highest rated bulletins.

TV Overnights are out: BBC Breakfast 32.4% share vs 24.9% share for Daybreak.

Note: Yearly share averages for year so far were: Breakfast- 34.0%, GMTV- 20.5%

Not sure if that's good or bad for Daybreak. Will be interesting to see the raw gap, but on first sight, that looks like 'no difference' at all to before.

Strong start for Daybreak, it was never going to over take BBC Breakfast on day 1 and anything over what GMTV was getting was always going to be a success. Inevitably todays episode will have fewer viewers but I think it will settle at 0.85m-1m rather than 0.7m-0.9m. I'd imagine the figure without Lorraine will push the 1m barrier.

Lorraine actually had more viewers than Daybreak yesterday (1.1m vs. 1.0m).

The average in the above posts only covers 6-8.30am.

I don't think that Daybreak rating is very good. I thought with an hour being trimmed off the runtime, they could at least equal Breakfast on day 1 due at least in part to the curiosity factor. ITV have spent loads of money acquiring the talents of Chiles and Bleakley and so far the response has been lukewarm at best. It's always a difficult time of day because people like familiarity and change is very hard to take. I imagine for many Daybreak was hard to swallow after getting used to GMTV over the years. There is also the big question mark surrounding Adrian- as good a presenter as he may be, do people necessarily want to watch him at that time of day? Is his style really suited to breakfast television? Or doesn't it matter whilst he's got Christine to bounce off? Don't get me wrong, it's hardly a disaster. And as ever, the key will be where we go from here. But I think as far as the early signs go, that was a pretty unspectacular start. And the fear is, ITV could be looking back in 6 months time and thinking "Did GMTV really need changing? Did we really need to spend all that money?" George can talk about demos until the cows come home but it is clear the point of Daybreak was to become the biggest show on breakfast TV. Today's figures prove it's going to be very much an uphill battle.

Lol - not really. Besides, the rights for Emmerdale are split between 7TWO & UKTV. I'm not sure it rates anywhere near well enough to be considered for a slot on one of the main networks.

Maybe, but don't forget the 6-7 hour will massively drag down the average as a lot less people are watching TV then.

It wouldn't equal Breakfast as its an hour shorter, with that hour being the one where more people tend to be watching TV.

But was it ever going to beat BBC Breakfast yesterday? Nothing is ever an instant hit, these things have to bed in and its gone down quite well, its quite rare for a new breakfast show to do that. They normally need revamping a few times.

Daybreak peaked with 1.5m yesterday. I'll be intrigued to see a breakdown.

Well I'm confused by the rating for Lorraine. Normally (and I'm sure this has been proven conclusively by breakdowns posted previously) overall viewing falls after 8:30am. This is due to people leaving for work/school/college etc. It might recover a bit after the school run is over around 9am but the peak has already been and gone.

You're right though that knocking the 6am hour out of the equation would have a bigger impact. That hour is very quiet, especially at the weekend.

You're right of course, it will take time to bed in. Further growth is not out of the question. But if it was to stay around the 1m mark or lower, with Breakfast on around 1.3-1.4m, I'm not sure if ITV would be happy with that. A marketing push for a slightly revamped GMTV could have achieved that, without having to splash out on two big names.

Of course, Adrian and Christine will add value in other areas so they might still turn out to be good signings. But it's too early to tell if breakfast TV is the best way to utilise them.

I think we need some kind of breakdown (15 or 5 minute) from yesterday, because the 1.5m peak for Daybreak, suggests that it started off quite low and built up, and I won't be surprised if it beat Breakfast for a period yesterday.

Also hard considering one average is for 06:00 to 08:30 and the other is for 06:00 to 09:15 really.

This kind of show tends to grow and thrives when something happens to the opposition. BBC Breakfast is moving to Salford next year with it being unlikely the whole presenting team will remain intact, and its unlikely they'll be able to attract big names for their interviews. Daybreak will be able to cash in on this. If Daybreak is to take over BBC Breakfast, it will probably take 2-3 years.

About your other point, I don't believe Adrian & Christine were ever long signings for Daybreak, I think they're simply there to launch the show and get it off on a steady ground and introducing them to ITV viewers at the same time. I can't really see any other reason why Kate Garraway has stuck around to become an entertainment correspondent- a far cry from anchor woman, and why they've been forcing Dan Lobb on us both at the end of GMTV and now on Daybreak. Both are the stand in hosts and I expect both to take over as main hosts eventually.

Shame this didn't rate so well - I watched it, one of the best things I've seen for ages, really inspiring and they visited some of the most unique and impressive places in the world, in particular - Mongolia.

In radio, it takes up to 18 months for a new breakfast show to reach its potential. I'd hazard that at least some of the lost GMTV audience have stopped watching tv in the mornings entirely. I dont think it will get the luxury of 18 months to prove itself but it should at least be given 4-6 months to see if it is working.

From the bits I saw (I'm a radio person in the mornings - a much bet medium) day one was quite awkward but todays show was more relaxed. Launches are often like that.

I thought it's a decent start for Daybreak but it seems a major stumbling block for it could be Breakfast's very loyal audience. Breakfast was barely down from its Year-To-Date average (just 1.6 share points). Daybreak was up 3.9 points from GMTV's average so the majority of its new viewers were people who don't usually watch breakfast TV but are occasional viewers who might've just tuned in for the sole purpose of seeing what all the fuss was about and may have no intention of tuning back again on a regular basis. I agree with Desert Rat that Daybreak could capitalise on Breakfast's move to Salford but there's still at least 18 months to go until that happens. Will be interesting seeing the daytime ratings over the next few months.

All the soaps did really well in the evening - all three up from their equivalent ratings last year. Solid if unspectacular start for Bouquet of Barbed Wire. It's non-crime so that might partly explain why it didn't reach the heights of other Monday Night Thrillers. According to MediaTel, WDYTYA beat it in the second half an hour - I reckon BoBW will experience the usual ITV 2nd-show drop and rate in the low 4's next week. Dragon's Den's audience is really stable, it's getting 2.7-2.9m against any competition. Looks like C4 was completely squeezed out at 9pm, appaulling rating really.
