they wouldnt have retained her if she was

I'd rather see total reach figures than peaks for breakfast tv
Do we know what the reach figures were for both channels before? and demos? Would be good to compare

looks like a win for BBC Breakfast, higher average, and higher peak, that despite Daybreak having Tony Blair, and people tuning in to see what its like.

I calculate a weighted average for ITV from 06:00 to 09:25 of 1.04m (23.9%) - its up, but I think it'll be interesting to see what happens from this point forward. It's got nearly 400,000 viewers and 9 share points to find from somewhere, though...

I don't think its worth comparing to the last 4 Mondays average though, because of course both would be up due to the Summer holidays and stuff.

No. None of those programmes on BBC1 apart from The One Show aired on the HD channel. I suspect with HD included, The One Show might've rated at 4.35m-ish.

Nope, none of the articles mention it's latest 3-month average.

Yeah that's true. Bank Holiday last week would've also lowered the average for GMTV, so comparison's to that aren't really meaningful.

Tony Blair is hardly an exclusive interview. Its more a surprise if a show doesn't have Tony Blair on at the minute. I really don't get why people were expecting Daybreak to win yesterday.

given the amount ITV spent on the show, I think they were hoping for better.

this is first day ratings, this isnt even 2 weeks in, when the novelty wears off.

I don't really think there is a novelty with it to be honest, breakfast TV is just background noise. But its still well up on GMTV and when it settles down, it will still probably be above GMTV. I can't see it going that much below 1m.

Does anyone know by the way how this recommendation feature works on Freeview+ PVRs? Is it the broadcasters pushing this through? For example, when setting up a recording for Bouquet of Barbed Wire on ITV1 last night, a box popped up recommending Law & Order: UK. I thought that was a bit odd since there is no direct link between the two shows.

Only other instance of this that I've come across so far is when I created a series link for Match of the Day, it also recommended MOTD2. That made perfect sense - the example above is a bit more of a stretch though!

This kind of show tends to grow and thrives when something happens to the opposition. BBC Breakfast is moving to Salford next year with it being unlikely the whole presenting team will remain intact, and its unlikely they'll be able to attract big names for their interviews. Daybreak will be able to cash in on this. If Daybreak is to take over BBC Breakfast, it will probably take 2-3 years. .
Breakfast doesn't do any Big name interviews till 8.40, when Daybreak is over.

Apart from the odd cabinet minister who appears usually via videolink from the BBCs Westminister studios, the only interviews are with experts in their fields and they have experts like that up in the Grim North

Channel 4 had an unusual night, everything was up by quite a lot before the 9pm watershed:

The Simpsons- 2.15m
Hollyoaks- 1.54m
Come Dine With Me... Big Brother Winners- 2.69m

My Family's Crazy Gap Year- 1.33m
Ultimate Big Brother- 2.47m

The Simpsons and Hollyoaks had quite significant rises which shocks me. Very well for CDWM BB special.... MFCGY did poorly, and even though UBB looks a bit on the low side it was up on the equivelent episode last week by 200,000.

That will probably be because of all the schoolkids having nothing else to watch at teatime.

I think the figures for the CDWM BB special suggest that C4 did get the scheduling rather wrong last night. Over 700k tuned in at 9pm, making it the most watched programme on C4+1 since Big Brother clashed with an hour-long EastEnders and Coronation Street in early July. As Desert Rat pointed out beforehand, it would have made much more sense to run CDWM at 9pm followed by BB at 10pm. My Family's Crazy Gap Year was out of place in that sandwich.

They are trying something similar on Thursday with Alan Davies' new show getting the BB sandwich treatment - not sure that's a particularly good fit either.

Agree about that, they were probably thinking that MFCGY would benefit from being in the BB sandwich as the surrounding shows did well, but it was affected due to the strong +1 showing of CDWM.

It will be interesting to see how BB rated these next few days, tonight its on at 9pm, maybe benefit it due to the ITV Flopzone, tomorrow night the 2nd show is scheduled between 11:05pm-11:35pm, will obviously bring in a strong share, but a lower rating because i can't see many people staying up until 11:35pm tbh... and Thursday at the 8pm slot, was a big mistake too... basically wanting to give Alan Davies' new show good ratings.

We will see how it pans out, but for me I am shocked that Hollyoaks basiclaly added half a million viewers because it was getting 1.0-1.2m. Same with The Simpsons, breaking through the 2m barrier in quite a while.

Worth baring in mind that Switzerland vs England is on Sky Sports 2 tonight, so I suspect we may see programs such as Eastenders and the 9pm Big Brother dented a bit.

Some good decent soap ratings for the first day of the Autumn TV season. I'll be interested to see how the return of Home And Away got on when the ratings come out.

Great ratings for Only Connect, I was going to ask do you think it will be long before it gets a daytime slot on BBC2, but it's probably better off on BBC4, it's quite a challenging quiz, and would have to be dumbed down if it was transferred.
Great figures for the Proms too.

A bad day for ITV yesterday, both their big new shows got off to poor starts. For all the promotion, commotion and even locomotion that Daybreak has caused it only managed a 0.14m increase on GMTV's average. I can see that increase swiftly disappearing. What a waste of money. Although im sure GeorgeS will be telling us how well it did with housewives.

Bouquet of Barbed Wire was another disappointment in my book. I thought it was a very good episode and there seemed to be a lot of interest in it. With a big name actor in Trevor Eve I thought it could get over 6m.

According to MediaTel, WDYTYA beat it in the second half an hour .
These figures for WDYTYA could possibly rise with BBC HD as it aired on there at 11 pm not 9 pm and gets a mid week HD repeat as well.
