It was up against WDYTYA and Dragons Den, Very tough opposition established in their runs. I though it was quite a good ratings for an ITV Drama, we'll see next week how it rates.

The Simpsons is a new series (to Channel 4). Presumably this has a knock-on effect on Hollyoaks.

I disagree. I thought BOBW was terrible. It takes alot for me to switch off a show as I like to persist, but i was just bored me to tears. I won't be tuning in next week. Such a shame as I do rate Trevor Eve in Waking the Dead, but this didn't grab me at all. I see it losing at least 1m viewers next Monday!

Weird because Im sure the new series started like a week back, its just started to make an effect from last night.

Another good day for ITV1 and some more decent shares. A new daytime line up and returning shows helped boost the all hours to 19.3%-one of the highest Mondays in a long time IIRC. As expected for Daybreak-I don't know where some people expected all these extra viewers to come from, because there aren't as many casual viewers floating about in the breakfast slot. The real test will be if it can now hold and gradually build its audience to prove the huge revamp was worth it.

Good solid figure for Bouquet aswell. I didn't expect it to do as well as other Monday thrillers because 1. The subject matter didn't seem as mainstream. 2. Monday thrillers need to be established again after a long period away. 3. Tough competition from established shows on BBC1 and BBC2. The response doesn't look great either so it could be below 4m next week.

I think it looks more promising for ITV's other dramas this week. Midsomer getting some advertising, L&O with very weak competition and I'd be very surprised if it was sub 5m and Albert's Memorial should do very well I think with David Jason, Heartbeat lead in and the good performance of U Be Dead last week. Apart from POG on Fridays, ITV have made excellent scheduling decisions so far with their Autumn schedule. Lets hope it continues!

Strong pre 9pm ratings for CH4 but I'm not sure why CH4 like to give their biggest shows the most awkward slots. It may boost weak lineups, but also destroys their big hitters aswell. Much lower than I expected for Gap Year, but as far as I can see it looks like from next week it will be the only weak link in their Autumn schedule, which looks great atm.

Good for Bouquet for Barbed Wire but I think due to the mixed response, it will fall next week. CDWM did very well for Channel 4, it is the gift that keeps on giving although I do think there is a bit of overexposure with the daytime version plus a new series of the primetime version instead. I'm surprised Gadget Show increased against CDWM but still a good result and Last of the Mohicans did okay.

It probably takes people several days to cotton on.

Or maybe it was just p155-poor weather last night.

Friday night is showing BB related programmes from 7:30pm to 12:25am... so it could really put off loads of viewers (as some people can't stand BB)... but will be interesting to see how all the shows perform, if they all go above 2.5m or so.

Apologies if already noted, DS reporting that Channel 4 have axed The 5 O'Clock Show.

And from Broadcast, a bit of a breakdown for Daybreak, I say breakdown - well, 3 pieces:

06:00 to 06:05 - 0.30m (25.3%)
07:00 to 07:05 - 1.10m (30.1%)
07:35 to 07:40 - 1.48m (26.7%) - peak figure

Daybreak and Breakfast were pretty close up until about 7:45 when Breakfast pulled ahead. 6:00-08:30 I think Breakfast averaged 1.3.

I've been watching through out and it puts me off, might stick to Eastenders/new tricks and catch up on some of bb

Seems to be a growing trend, these days: show episodes in the wrong order, then interrupt the series mid-run.

When you look at the figures like that they look quite a lot more impressive for Daybreak than perhaps first suggested by the raw numbers... Although to be honest I would have predicted a bit higher considering it was the first show, but anyway as others have said the key is retention and dare I say growth!

Some provisional schedule updates for w/c Saturday 18th September. Could change once schedules are confirmed tomorrow:

- Sat 18th: Merlin at 18:40 and Total Wipeout Celebrity Special follows on BBC1. On ITV1, TXF is 19:30-20:45, with Phil Collins: One Night Only following it. No 71 Degrees North, that sticks to Tuesdays.
- Sun 19th: BBC1 has Antiques Roadshow, Countryfile and The Battle of Britain (no sign of George Gently). TXF's first Sunday episode this year between 7.45-9pm. Joe Maddison's War follows 9-11pm.
- Mon 20th: Spooks begins its new series on BBC1. So drama clashes on Mondays between BBC1 and ITV1.
- Lost Land of the Tiger (factual) stripped on BBC1 between Tuesday and Thursday.
- New Midsomer Murders episode on Wed 22nd for ITV1.

The new season hasn't really started yet (most TV shows begin next week or the week after), but The CW are starting their new series tomorrow:

9pm - Hellcats

It'll be interesting to see how the 2 stripped documentaries do next week and the week after, my guess is not particularly well though considering the tough competition on Wednesday and Thursday.

I think people are looking to much in to Daybreaks figures.

It was only ever going to get a slight rise from GMTV, on its first day. It was only ever going to get a few viewers that were interested in seeing the new show, a few BBC One breakfast viewers that wanted to sample it, the rest were going to be GMTV viewers.

I predict in the next couple of days the ratings will fall (i wouldnt be surprised for it to fall below 800,000 viewers in the next week or two), as the initial curiosity wares off, and some people will not like the new format (If it maintains its ratings then that is a sign that in the medium term it will grow quickly, however i think that is unlikely). The important figure is going to be in about 6 months times, when you will see if it can steadily increase its audience and challenge Breakfast over the next year or two.

As for BBW i actually think that is a good rating for an ITV drama. ITV drama just doesnt have a very good reputation at the moment, so they are going to find it hard to attract the big ratings. What they need to do is try and get back ITVs drama reputation, by doing a couple of drama a year that may not get above 4.5 million, but that get a name for being quality (not necessarily awards, but just seen as going back to the quality of ITVs previous dramas).

Well what else do you think they could air on Tuesdays? They have to keep trying with that slot rather than just let it completely rot, and thins shows they're at least making an effort. Giving it the Saturday X Factor lead-in for the first episode is so that it gets a decent level of sampling before moving to Tuesday where they'll be hoping it can hold on to most of the viewers. They seem to have a pretty strong Autumn schedule elsewhere so we'll see how it pans out.

I think 9pm is too late for Joe Maddison's War but the X Factor lead-in may counter-balance the late slot. Not sure about that slot for Spooks either, as whilst the debut will easily outtrate Bouquet, it'll be against Whitechapel the following week and it was only getting ~4.5m for most episodes last year anyway due to the BBC3 screenings? Is Celebrity Total Wipeout new or a repeat?

As for yesterday, I think it's a decent start for Daybreak. It improved on what GMTV has been getting and it was never going to beat Breakfast on day one. As for the comments about Lorraine, her show has always rated slightly better than GMTV so that rating is no surprise, and does anyone know if it had a knock-on effect for the rest of the day? Decent start for Bouquet. Perhaps a little short of my expectations but incest is still a bit of a dodgy topic and may have put a few off. Is it just me or is WDYTYA down on previous series? I always thought it was a low 6s show not a low 5s show and last night's 4.9m seems very low by its standards.

I find it funny that all these GMTV diehard fans who have suddenly come out of the woodwork demanding that there was nothing wrong with GMTV and that they should bring it back, are saying they will be watching the BBC from now on?

Trading in Richard Arnold's TV gossip with an update from London's stock exchange.
5-10 minutes of sports news per hour compared to practically none until recently on GMTV.

I knew this was going to happen though, GMTV has never received one positive comment on here, yet has now received 100s since last Friday. Same goes for Heartbeat as well.

Ridiculous scheduling by C4 last night. CDWM was utterly bizzare but very funny and the ratings clearly suggest that it would have been more at home in the 9pm hour.

Decent start for Daybreak. It might fall back a touch in the coming weeks but the real test is if it can improve in the long run. When you're dividing the new salaries over so many hours, there probably doesn't need to be a big increase to make it worthwhile.

I think Lost Land of the Tiger could rate quite well. Lost Land of the Jaguar averaged 5.0m a couple of years ago and that faced The Bill (when it was getting 5m viewers) and a Liverpool Champions League match. Whilst I doubt it'll do as well as that, I can see the new edition picking up a solid 4m or so.

I hope the BBC has a new drama (maybe Single Father) lined up for Tuesdays from the following week or two, otherwise I don't understand the reasoning in putting Spooks on Mondays against ITV's dramas. Although Whitechapel won't perform as well as it did last time, the clash against it could send Spooks' ratings down towards the lower end of 4m. IMO it'd rate better on Tuesdays against complementary competition but I guess we have to wait and see if the BBC are putting a new drama on that day which would explain Spook's Monday slot.

I have heard a few say it was only ever going to get a slight rise and there arent enough casual viewers to make a big difference etc. But why has ITV gone to so much bother with the revamp if there was never much gain possible?
