Thanks for that. Certainly seems like the best available option for all parties concerned and I agree with Cowell that having the X Factor in a new time slot might be good for it, they have always been very good at knowing when XF needs changes to keep it fresh.
Will be interesting to see how BGT will cope without Cowell. 'World's Got Talent' doesn't sound particularly promising though!

It was always going to end with that phrase (BB Aus did back in 2008 too!), but I think the signs have been there over the last few days that talks with C5 had come to nothing, as having downplayed it over recent weeks, they'd really been emphasising it was the "last ever" BB over the last few days.

I think she'll be advised against it. She has new management who have done a great job for her. And I think they've worked hard to create a career for her beyond BB with Million Pound Drop and Got To Dance. Also, it's likely that many of the senior crew will leave so that might reduce her desire to return. Phil Edgar-Jones is moving to LA and she has worked with him very closely since 2001.
As for tonight, it was a brilliant ending. Great top 5, great winner, loved the 2 shows in between as well and I hope Desmond leaves it alone for a few years. Ideally, it would come back to Channel 4 in 5 or 10 years. The series was so soaked in nostalgia that it's going to be ridiculous to bring it back too soon.
I hope it did well tonight but I'm not expecting much!
Regardless of the last few years, it was a massive success. I think 2006 is in some ways the peak. First of all you had Celebrity Big Brother 4 which ran for 3 weeks. Huge ratings (4.9m average) against reality competition on BBC1 & ITV1. The brilliant "non-celebrity" element which spawned 2 spin-offs on E4 for Chantelle. The George Galloway fiasco, Pete Burns coat being arrested and his song shooting up the charts.
Then there was BB7 which was up in the ratings from BB6, 13 weeks long airing at 9pm - with sister shows BBLB, BBBM, BBBB and BB
RU then Nikki got her own show as well! It was the year that Russell Brand really came to public attention. ITV threw everything at it that summer and even Simon Cowell couldn't put a dent in it. It was also the last one where the housemates were widely known - like Nikki tonight coming 2nd.

Not exactly, they said 'That is all.... for now'. However Jacki-O did say 'we will be back' earlier in the finale.

Interesting that they're thinking of moving BGT. Sounds like they might abandon the stripped format and go weekly like AGT - which has worked out well this summer for NBC.
If Cowell is to remain on XF, then I'd still favour auditions, bootcamp and judges houses before Christmas with live shows into early March. Then a completely revamped BGT over 4 weeks in May/June (doubling up the auditions episodes on Saturdays & Sundays).

Great post. I agree 100%. BB7, disappointing winner aside, was the last great peak for BB. It all went south from there.
IMO BB tonight was brilliant, great finalists, great celebrations as well as tearjerkers... Davina's best bits as well as the echoes of the last 10 years while showing the house, ending on the line...

The CW wanted Nikita to be more broad in its appeal so I think it'll do well if it keeps up at around the level it's at.
Looking at Digiguide, looks like Five are showing for now 300 which I expect will do well and they give a promotional push but am slightly gutted as I hoping it would turn up a week later so I could use it for the RPG. On the plus side, I have one of the specials.

Really not sure which way the ratings will go, the only thing I will say is that EastEnders will be top. And I'll be pretty shocked if it isn't.

From further up the thread, it stabilised at about 900k, but with AIs below 60 for the first couple of days. In theory, AIs at that level for a drama would result in something like a 30% drop in audience for its second episode. The theory goes something like this:
For an average AI of below 60, every high AI rating (8-10) should be balanced by a low rating (2-4). (what I call the "marmite split"). So for the second episode, the people that gave a low figure wouldn't bother watching, so the audience would drop but the average AI would rise.
However, with Daybreak, the AI on the second day was still only 58, yet the average audience stayed at around 900k for the rest of the week. Which must mean that there wasn't the "marmite split", but a more general score of 5 or 6/10 from just about everyone.
So, if the above analysis is broadly correct, Daybreak potentially has a loyal audience base to work from. Obviously, this audience doesn't like the alternatives any more than they like Daybreak itself. I predict that it will remain at around the same level throughout the coming months and it will be up to ITV to decide if that's good enough and all they're ever going to get...

Hmmm... not the best numbers for either programme. Maybe all those shows on at the same time dented each other. Second BB show ended quite late so I wasn't expecting the average to be much over 4m to be honest.

Really? :/ dont know until we see the actual roundup.
Very good for New Tricks despite the day change. O'Grady did OK in all honesty, surprised it wasn't squeezed further.
We need to see what Corrie and Edale got to make a fair assesment of whether that is good for Enders or not. If they got below 7 million then its a good and outright win for EE meaning BB dented all the soaps.
Had it been on another day then Enders could have hit 11 maybe 12 million easy.
