My view is, it was supposed to be a pretty big episode. EE can get 8.9m for a normal episode. I know the competition was alot greater than usual. I just expected abit more to be honest.

An article with a few demo numbers regarding Daybreak:
Quote:
“Overall, Daybreak achieved 1.04 million viewers and a 23.7% share on its first day. The housewives with kids audience averaged at 289,000, up 22% year on year and taking a 28.2% share of that market.

Despite Chiles’ gloomy demeanour, he undoubtedly has a large fanbase and will bring a stronger male audience to Daybreak than GMTV ever enjoyed.

The first few days of the programme have already delivered a significant 60 point rise in 16-34 adults compared to GMTV, which could open up the programme to a new range of advertisers.

More here: http://www.mediaweek.co.uk/news/1027...id-esque-tone/”

Also Digital-i says that on its first day, Daybreak had a 32% share for female viewers compared to 33% for BBC Breakfast.

And an about Daybreak's AIs:
Quote:
“Breakfast show Daybreak flopped with TV viewers in its first week.

The ITV programme, hosted by star recruits Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles, only managed an audience approval rating of 56 out of 100 for Monday's debut.

Tv insiders regard an approval score of less than 60 to be a poor result. Even on the second day, when many watchers felt the hosts were less nervous, the show still only managed a score of 58 from the viewers quizzed by researchers.

An ITV source said: "The only ones happy with the figures were staff who worked on GMTV, the show Daybreak has replaced. To get Audience Appreciation Index scores this low was extremely disappointing and shows how much we have to improve.

"Hopefully things will get better when people know the brand while people here stress this is a marathon and not a sprint.

"But I'm sure someone like Adrian would take these figures very seriously."
...
Itv declined to comment on the index figures, saying they were for internal use, but added: "We are pleased with the performance of Daybreak and have had very positive feedback."

DSRPG Forecast Revisited

BBC
New Tricks – Fri 21:00 BBC One: 7.1m (actual 7.1m)

ITV
Paul O’Grady Live – Fri 21:00 ITV1: 3.3m (actual 3.35m)

C4
Ultimate Big Brother: The Final Hour – Fri 22:30 C4: 3.9m (actual 3.7m)

Well done to everyone from the DSRPG! We got New Tricks spot on, POG spot on and were only 200k out for the second Big Brother show.

However Coronation Street and EastEnders in particular really underpeformed compared to expectations. A bad night for the soaps for sure.

Admittedly, its effect in that way has diminished over recent years but it's still there. It isn't so easy to avoid BB as it is other shows you don't like. X Factor, of course, has a similar effect.”

I have noticed over the years at work that BB isn't such a big topic of conversation any more, and I only know three people who still watch it. However, it still dominates the Daily Star and celebrity magazines in the summer and its fans are a bit obsessive.

Or, a bad night for people who predicted ludicrously high?

As I said yesterday, I don't see how anyone could have thought 11-12m last night for EE was realistic.

My prediction was 10.6m. Seemed like a reasonable sort of figure considering the episode hype and what was happening. How wrong I was.

Why not? They've been promoting this week for several weeks now - OK, not as big as the 25th anniversary, but I would have still expected over 10m for it.

I think I underrated EE by about 0.1, I didn't really expect 10 or 11 million, to be honest.

Due to the fragmented nature of viewing now, it's very unlikely an episode of a soap will ever attract 20 millio viewers now.

The big fire ep only got 8.4m last night - can't see it making it to 10m tonight. Even the BBC3 repeat will be dented by the orgy of BB crap on Ch4.:”

I guess the BBC weren't to know months ago that on Friday 10th September Ch 4 would have its final, final BB send-off and an evening of programmes starting at 7.30pm. So we can't blame them for that.

I'm also not sure the promotion particularly drew people's attention to last night's ep, contrast with the live episode in Feb when no-one was in any doubt there was a big "TV event" that night.

btw, I assume we have no rating as yet for the BBC3 rpt of EE?

That underperformed as well. Our players predicted days ago so weren't to know that EastEnders was going to have such a poor week despite a couple of major episodes.

If you genuinely thought a a week ago that EE would be sub 9m last night then all credit to you, but maybe next time you should put your money where your mouth is and prove it!

I don't think there was the same level of hype around the episodes as there was around the live, and why would there be?

It was a tough night and EE did well to come out on top. Can't really ask for much more than that - it will recoup a lot of viewers through the repeats and iPlayer as well. I didn't watch it last night but I'll be catching up this weekend and I'm sure many others will be doing the same.

With Big Brother gone, what show will now be Channel Four's big show.BBC1 has EastEnders and Dr Who, BBC2 has Top Gear, and ITV has Corrie and The X Factor.

I wonder if it would have been better to have had the fire and departure in one hour long edition.

8:00 The History of Peggy Mitchell setting up the episode
8:30 Fire and Departure
9:30 Barbara Windsor life story

or

7:30 The History of Peggy Mitchell setting up the episode
8:00 Fire and Departure
9:00 Barbara Windsor, 'Who do You Think You Are'.

Well considering Come Dine with Me is on for two and a half hours today, every night at 5pm, a celeb special on Tuesday at 8pm and a new primetime series on Friday at 8pm, I think we know where their focus is.

They're really pushing Seven Days too - but can't see that becoming a big hit really.

Anyhow, not sure if it's been mentioned here but The Cube has been confirmed for the pre-X Factor Sunday night slot from next week.

The provisional schedules for Saturday 25th September have something, erm... interesting:

18:05 - ITV News and Weather
18:20 - All Star Family Fortunes
19:05 - The X Factor
21:00 - TBA
22:00 - ITV News and Weather

Two things:

1) why is X Factor on for that long? The live shows don't start until 9th October, so that's slightly bizarre
2) is the TBA possibly Piers Morgan's Life Stories? (please say No)

I hope that's a mistake in the provisionals and not what will happen.

EDIT: The repeat of X Factor the next day is also listed for 115 minutes, with a further edition on at 19:45 that day, but that is expected - I think.

Probably either 'When Piers Met Lord Sugar' or 'Simply Red: For The Last Time'.

Life Stories starts recording on 27th September so I'd expect that begin on the same night as the first X Factor live show, like last year.

Davina has to let Big Brother go for the sake of her career. She has plenty of projects coming up this year, and she needs to put herself out there as Davina McCall, not Davina from BB for more work. Going back to BB will just look daft on her because it will seem like its all she has.

Last nights BB figures were fair, couldn't really expect much more or less considering the time length and the amount of filler. And 3.7m for Channel 4 with a 34% share at its peak isn't to be sniffed at. The sandwich shows also rated about 1m higher than I expected, it seems the core fan base of about 3m stuck with C4 throughout the night.

Eastenders was much lower than I expected and the peak isn't that impressive either whilst Paul O'Grady held up well but ouch for Corrie's second show.
