A one-off music special with Simply Red, similar to the Phil Collins one coming up and the other one-off music specials ITV have done in the past.

21:00 - TBA
22:00 - ITV News and Weather

Two things:

1) why is X Factor on for that long? The live shows don't start until 9th October, so that's slightly bizarre
2) is the TBA possibly Piers Morgan's Life Stories? (please say No)

I hope that's a mistake in the provisionals and not what will happen.

EDIT: The repeat of X Factor the next day is also listed for 115 minutes, with a further edition on at 19:45 that day, but that is expected - I think.”

Lol - you really don't like Piers do you?

X Factor is bootcamp that week and I believe that the bootcamp format has been changed quite drastically this year and the contestants were all given singing and dancing lessons between their performances so I suspect that is the reason for the longer episode. Last year bootcamp was 75 mins on Saturday and 90 mins on Sunday, whilst 2 years ago it was 90 mins on Saturday and 60 mins on Sunday so it seems to change every year.

Life Stories starts recording on 27th September so I'd expect that begin on the same night as the first X Factor live show, like last year.”

Yeah that's what I think will happen, and once Life Stories is done it'll be IAC, and I remember reading that it is being extended by a couple of days this year (probably just so that the final is on a Sunday rather than a Friday) so that's the post-X Factor slot sorted until the final when they'll probably have another special.

As for Sundays, I'm pretty certain that Downton Abbey will start on 26th September, which will again take them up to IAC.

I'm intrigued, normally when ITV has ~3.5m at 9pm, News at Ten normally struggles to get above 2 million, so that's surprising.

Even more surprising, the breakdown for ITV is steady at 9pm, even increasing at one point.

The Mentalist on Channel 5 was badly hit by the intense competition. Those repeats have been bringing in a solid 1.4m every week in the officials.

So to conclude, not bad at all for BB, the peak share is brilliant, well for C4 anyways... and looking at the breakdown (thanks rtz) the ratings kept going up... the officials will be 3.2m and 4.1m IMO.

Now back to tonight will be interesting.
SCD, i'm looking at 7.8m for tonight and 10.2m for the X Factor.

I reckon the big flop tonight will be 71 Degrees North. This is really I'm A Celeb with snow and viewers will see through this quickly. I'm surprised ITV1 have commissioned a reality show for peak time as their record in the last five years has been poor: Marco bombed, Ladette to Lady has been shifted to a graveyard slot as interest has nosedived, All At Sea struggled and then there are the ghosts of Celebrity Love Island and WAGs Boutique.

Personally I was surprised it didn't clear 4m quite comfortably for the second show. However the share is very good. Also on the positive side, the hour of Dermot & Davina filler did much better than I expected.

71 Degrees North just has the wrong feel about it - not saying it seems bad but it seems off kilter for ITV; it has more of a BBC2 atmosphere about it. Mind you, it's only 5 minutes in.

Last night, everything seemed to dent each other. EastEnders was never going to hit big heights considering it couldn't achieve them with the fire episode against weaker opposition. Coronation Street did poorly but as it started away from a natural junction it's not surprising I guess. Big Brother finished with a reasonable but not fantastic rating.

I think its rather good myself so far. I hope it doesn't flop, because you can tell ITV have actually put a lot of effort into this.

I think, quite frankly, Tuesday's rating will be more important than tonight's rating as it'll be staying on Tuesday after tonight.

Also, nearly 40 minutes in - and we're in the middle of the 2nd break which is surprising for an ITV show!

71 Degrees North is good but its coming across as quite a niche programme so it will flop quite badly. They would have been better doing this live like I'm a Celeb and giving it that kind of feel.

If it is a success (and that's a big if), then I wouldn't be surprised if they consider that.

Although I guess there's a lot more risks doing a programme like that live compared to I'm a Celebrity.

ITV aren't showing much faith in it either, they're showing hardly any adverts! It will probably get a recomission if it averages 4m+ but the likelihood of that is quite slim I think. I don't think the danger risk is any different in the 2 shows, they're just one extreme to the other.

They used them all up on the ratings cert that is The X Factor - I guess there may be more adverts on Tuesday when the preceding shows are Who Wants to be a Millionnaire? and Emmerdale.

I think it's quite good too. But I agree a little bit with Fudd - there is something strange with it - not sure what?

I don't think they picked the best hosts to be honest.
Ant & Dec make I'm a Celeb really! But at least it's not one of there usual ITV people like say Phillip Schofield.
ITV seem to have one of their better schedules in a long time this week though - lot's of new stuff!

Yeah does seem more niche. But like D.M.N says i'm not sure they could do it Live - well for one - Heath & Safety and also i'm not sure the satiliette would be that relaible in the Artic!

& on the Ad's for 71D - i've seen loads for quite a few weeks. Just, in the X Factor i think they try and give near enough every show an Ad showing. They did do sokething unsual after the XF - show the promo for it and said "Coming up next"

I have to admit it, I'm enjoying it myself. It seems a bit more sophisticated that the normal reality show.

Well it started at 21:01 and finished at 21:59, so I wonder if it lasted longer than the usual ITV programme length excluding adverts? Normally about 44 minutes excluding adverts, at a guess it was longer than that by a few minutes meaning more adverts were packed into The X Factor.

I hope it doesn't flop.

Health & Safety pass I'm a Celeb and have already passed this so it would be fine. Broadcasting live from the Arctic would be unreasonable, by 'live' I meant with it happening now with any shows pre-recorded. It wouldn't necessarily have to involve any public vote unless it was done in advance. About the adverts- I meant actual advertisements during the show rather than adverts for the show. Its been shown quite heavily.

Just the curse of following The X Factor where most of the ads will be. Should be more adverts on Tuesday.

Didn't know the artic answer to I'm a celebrity had started, haven't seen any adverts for it (or perhaps I did and assumed they were for something else and didn't pay attention). I'm assuming it's either expensive but rubbish or they're hoping it following The X Factor will provide it all the audience it needs, if the latter, had I watched X Factor tonight not knowing what 71 degrees north was (and I didn't till reading this thread tonight), from the title I'd assume it was some sort of regional news show and turn over, wonder how many other only occasional ITV viewers did?

Hmm, a bit lower than I thought for Eastenders, I think Big Brother and Coronation St must have taken a at least a million or so away from it and if that theory is correct then it may well have hit 10 million another week. Even so, 8.85 million still makes it the highest Friday episode since 5th March.
Good start for New Tricks.

OK-ish sort of start for Paul O'Grady, will be looking to see it increase next week though. And ouch at Coronation St!
