Thanks for that, Dave. I'm kind of surprised that A Concert for Heroes beat Heartbeat and Albert's Memorial. But really, good figures for all three I think.

I think 2m is very much possible. Heartbeat ended with a reasonable figure.

Not that I like to be picky (yeah - right!), but why is the headline for that article either wrong (or not justified by the article itself)? I make Heartbeat's rating 5.58+0.14=5.72m, not "over 6m". And, if they actually meant the peak rating, why not quote it!

5.8 million is very respectable for Heartbeat and shows there is still a market for it.

To be fair Porterhouse Blue was was on Channel 4 which to a certain extent was going to get a reduced figure. However when you consider A Sharp intake of Breath(a perhaps forgotten chart topper), The Darling Buds of May, A Bit of a Do, A Touch of Frost, Open All Hours and ofcourse Only Fools and Horses its a pretty spectacular ratings cv over a long period.
I agree that things are different today and the figure for Alberts Memorial is a sharp reminder of this-its quite poor imo.

Perhaps they threw the logs into the skip with the rest of the GMTV rubbish ..

It annoying when there is a gap on the Barb Top 30's..grrr!!

Thanks Mike. Another drop for Sky Sports News. Down from a weekly reach of 6.4m (0.7% audience share) to a weekly reach of 5.5m (0.6% audience share).

Soccer Saturday fell to a miserable 167k. Although it wasn't a Premier League weekend.

I think/hope it could be the most watched episode of the programme. There's been so much hype for this series. There's even a BBC News article on it that's the fourth most read right now!

As you say it was not a Premier League weekend. There were no Championship games either so these figures are just about meaningless.

Even so SSN's audience share was still strong compared to other Sky Sports channels:

SS1 - 0.7%
SS2 - 0.6%
SS3 - 0.3%
SS4 - 0.2%
SSN - 0.6%

And SSN's reach was way higher than SS1 or SS2.

Low for Albert's Memorial but not entirely surprising. Is that because David Jason no longer has the same pull or because ITV drama is in a poor state? I suspect a bit of both.


IIRC Diamaond Geezer got about 10m for its first episode, which was on a Sunday night and was meant to be a one-off. But, its success led to 3 more episodes that aired on Thursdays which tanked, about 4m.

e.g. two Bond movies on ITV2, two of the movies on five etc...

Broadcast reporting that ITV are to make a pretty major sounding Titanic drama which is being funded by themselves, Global in Canada and TV3 in Ireland and will be produced by three production companies (including ITV Studios). It'll have a Gosford Park writer and a Bleak House producer. They'll either screen it as 4 x 60mins or 2 x 90mins on the 100th anniversary of the disaster.

Sounds good, let's hope it doesn't sink in the ratings. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.

Very strong finish for Heartbeat, because there was no promotion, it had tougher competition & there was no Corrie lead in. Incidentally I think its the highest rated episode of the series without a Corrie lead in and the highest for some time I would imagine. I hadn't watched Heartbeat for about 5 years, but after growing up with it I decided to watch the final episode. Was very shocked when even the ITV announcer didn't even give a nod to it being the final episode. The only way viewers would have known it was the last ever episode was from reading TV magazines. Ending on a cliffhanger aswell. It makes me think that Heartbeat might actually return, because surely even ITV wouldn't just get an 18 year old Sunday night favourite disappear without even mentioning it to the fans and having a farewell programme?! I actually thought it was a very good episode and even though it was a cliffhanger it ended quite nicely with all the locals toasting Oscar in the pub. Will be a shame to let it go really.

Very good rating for the BOB documentary with David Jason considering how other factual programmes have faired in that slot, but later on pretty bad I thought for Albert's Memorial. I would have thought it was guaranteed to be a 6m+ banker.

Oh, that sounds like an interesting departure for ITV. I would hope it does well if only so they may take more chances like this in the future.

Wow, an ITV commission I'm actually interested in. Can't remember the last time that happened! Sounds pretty major and a great idea to me.

Good ratings for Heartbeat and good that there were consistent figures for this 'last' series.

I just do not see how ITV can dump a show that gets 5 - 6 million viewers. They are not awash with dramas doing that and whatever its ad revenue it cements Sunday evening and lets them build a schedule around it.

Having a consistent run in one slot is what it singularly did not get when ITV were trying to drop it and foing so for this run shows that when it does get that there is still an audience.

It would be sad to leave its loyal viewers dangling with the unresolved ending. At the very least it deserves a one off special that (given the ending) could coincidentally round off The Royal as well since that is where any follow on of this Heartrbeat episode would naturally be partially set.

Taking the show into 1970 in the process....though that might be hard as they have succeeded in not just stopping time by keeping the series in 1969 for a decade or so now but even moving it backwards within 1969.

Last nights episode was clearly set in Spring 1969 (given dates indicated by several things in it such as clearly visible car tax discs) but two or three years ago they had an episode set around the Apollo 11 landings and that was in July!

Moving Heartbeat into the 1970s would give it closure, whilst at the same time it sets the ground for a new era should ITV wish to ressurect it in the future. I don't watch it, was last nights the final ever show? If it was, its probably worth mentioning the filming stopped when ITV froze it, it wasn't axed by that point.

The Titanic show will sink or swim (no pun intended ) and it largely depends on the storyline they put into it and the actors. Inevitably it will be compared to the film.

I think it's an admin thing by Kantar, I think it's all automated now so they can't properly average out the ratings. So you've got slightly annoying thing of a film being split by ITV2 news and then listed seperately as two entries

As others have said it does seem an attractive proposition, but its going to have to add something in a different way to a film which had a 200 million dollar budget, is the second highest grossing ever and is always going to be at the forefront of comparison to any new attempt. All in all its quite a brave undertaking.
As far as Heartbeat is concerned, its interesting people are talking about a recommission when its just had its last episode. Everythings been closed down hasnt it, the sets, the structure. Surely its dead and gone?

The Concert for Heroes did well, these sort of things usually do quite well, The Children in Need Concert did similar ratings as well. Albert's Memorial did okay for ITV1 but David Jason isn't the draw he once was but I imagine Come Rain Come Shine will do better. I think Joe Maddison's War will do better business next week.

Good night for Five with Men in Black and Bad Boys beating Fool's Gold and Four Weddings on Channel 4, Men in Black seems to do well whenever it's airs same with Men in Black II.

The Titanic drama sounds good and it will have a big budget given it's been funded by Global and TV3 as well as ITV and Julian Fellowes is good at writing period dramas as evident with Gosford Park and the upcoming Dowton Abbey.
