We are moving from BT to Virgin this Friday 27/8/10.
when our contract ends.

We have had nothing but trouble from BT in trying to cancel or
should I say not renewing our contract with them,

Now they are telling us we have to pay £25 fee because we are changing to Virgin although the contract is now ending.

We have had BB speed of 1.5mb after paying option 3 for 3 years.

A horrid woman named 'MARIE' was very rude and unhelpful
and kept telling me that we have to pay this £25 fee.

If I never have another phone again, I would never have BT
ever again.

Can some please tell me why we have to pay this £ 25. when
the contract is now finished.

BT have ignored all my emails we have had 3 bt engineers
round to look at our BB speed and they have all told us that
the highest speed we can have is 1 - 2 meg. this is not on
when we have paid for option 3 for three years.

If you end your Broadband service without transferring to another DSL based ISP via a MAC code, you have to pay a cease fee. This is quite legal and can be found in BT's Ts & Cs. Some ISPs charge an activation fee and some do both.

As to your speed, you probably just have a very long line and there isn't anything that BT, or anyone else for that matter, can do about that. Option Three is about the amount of data that you download not speed. All BT Options are the same speed, that is to say: up to 8 Mb./s or up to 20 Mb/s depending on the exchange.

Moving to Virgin cable, as you are doing, is your best option.

My hubby wants sky sports 1 & 2, the bt engineers told us
that it would not be possible with such a low bb speed, this is why we are changing, but after all the trouble we have had,for the last six weeks , its put us both off bt for good. Even our neighbours have told us that when they changed from bt they also had trouble cancelling their contracts.

So can I pay the £25 up front now or should I wait for a bill.?
I have cancelled my DD and paid bt up, so apart from the £25 we are straight with the payments.

BT have they gone completely mad, ?
They are now saying that we owe them for a twelve months contract + hub + £25 total £ 192.00.
We have a letter of confirmation dated 29/6/10 confirming that we do not wish to renew our contract with them, since then we have had various bt deptments saying we have entered into a new contract with them starting 28/8/10. I have already explained we are leaving them because they can not provide the service we require.
My husband is 80 years old, and we live in sheltered accommodation, we can not believe bt are so incompetent.
I have spent all day sending emails and hanging on the phone. One minute it is sorted and the next we are back to square one.
Sorry for the rant.

Write a letter of complain to: Sir Michael Rake, Chairman, British Telecommunications plc, 81 Newgate Street, London EC1A 7AJ. Works every time.
