Whitney and Mariah are always the 2 singers regarded as the strongest females, in the press, by other singers and by the majority of the general public.

I personally would always say Celine is as successful and as good as them, if not better. Is Celine the same in your opinion?

Definatley the same league, just not the top one. about Blue Square league at best

Threadbare wailers , one who sings 55 notes when one will do, one who sounds like shes got a mars bar in her gob & another who started off ok ,but decided that over cookimg it was the way ahead.

Mind its not the wailers its the derisory material & syrupy production that usualy makes it unbearable.

Céline's real weapon is her voice's longevity and tone. Technically, whilst she's an excellent belter (although mixes a massive amount now), she's not on the same level as Whitney, or Mariah.

Yeah I guess she is in the same league as them but she imo opinion she is not as good as them. However this doesnt take anything away from her talent. She is definitley as succesful as them.

I'd rank them like this:

1. Mariah
2 Whitney

3. Celine

However although I think Mariah is better than Whitney they are more or less equals.

It's like saying Spurs are on the same level as Manchester United or Chelsea.

I'll say one thing, though -- she'll be remembered as being one of the "Vocal Trinity" (*cringe*), along with Mariah and Whitney.

Celine is a very good vocalist, but Mariah and Whitney are the best. It doesn't mean she's not good, but they were just much better. She's still got her voice and is more consistent today than they are, but in all fairness she never pushed her voice to the extent that they did. She was also known to mime.

Celine Dion has sold more records than either of them. I wouldn`t know who is the stronger singer though because I can`t stand the way any of them sing and their songs all sound the same to me, especially Mariah Carey.

Can't believe she is only 2 years older than Mariah Carey. Mariah looks much younger. Celine looks good for her age.

Well Wikipedia says she is the best selling female solo artist of all time but Madonna/Whitney/Mariah/Celine all get that label I think.

It's either Madonna or Celine.

Whitney and Mariah are not close to being the best selling female artists, but they have sold a lot of records in their own right,

Celine is not there vocal peer. She is too flawed technically. Her belts are improperly placed she belts projecting her sound through her nasal passages while supporting them with her throat and becomes so head dominant at the upper end that she loses all power. She's also really shite at melisma and improvisation which mariah and Whitney have no superiors apart from Ella Fitzgerald on the improvisation front. She also does not have the musicianship that mariah has over her voice. Celine can be absolutely amazing at times her D5 belt in oh holy night is the best D5 ever IMO but overall in terms of vocal technique mariah is the best and celine is not on mariahs level bit whitneys!

Mariah Carey is the second highest selling female artist of all time, to my knowledge. Madonna is first.

Interesting. Wiki says it is Celine. X Factor Introductions say:

Whitney- 170 Million worldwide record sales, The most Awarded female artist of all time; 6 Grammy's and a Oscar, 7 Consecutive multi platinum albums;

Mariah- 18 Number One Singles more than any other artist in history. (Celine has 42), 11 #1 albums, 200 million worldwide record sales, 5 Grammy's, the most successful female recording artist of all time.

It clearly states there that Mariah has sold 200 million reocrds, which is more than Celine. But wikipedia is full of crap anyway. Mariah's 18 #1 singles were all in America and that is more than any other female solo artist.

I won't deny for one second that in their prime, Whitney had more power and Mariah had more range than Celine. However, when it comes to connecting with a song/artist, technical and vocal ability mean abolutely diddly squat. You don't need to be an amazing vocalist to be an amazing performer.

For me, Whitney has too much power to the point where her voice over powers the song and Mariah uses far too much vocal qymnastics for the song to be fluid. Celine is a happy balance. I like some songs from both Whitney and Mariah but prefer Celine overall.

I also think Celine needs credit for consistency. Unlike the other two, she has never really been in the papers for her personal life and just gets on with things. She hasn't stayed top of her game by playing the media game aka Madonna, she hasn't ruined her voice with drugs and she seems to have managed to have a balanced family life.

For me personally, Celine is a good all rounder and I hope she continues to have success in her career. This is not to say I don't appreciate how talented Whitney and Mariah are/were. I do but they are not my cup of tea.

THE top-selling female artist ever is Nana Mouskouri. NO contest or dispute there. After that, it's either Madonna, Mariah or Céline.

X Factor said the same about Céline. It makes stuff up. It'll say the same when Madonna arrives on it.

Perhaps overtime she's behind them, but Celine is a million leagues in front of them at the moment. To be honest, her voice is the only one to stand the test of time.

I can never understand this biggest selling, best selling malarky.
The media seem to make it up to suit their agenda.
Like if Artist X has been around for 30 years had 15 albums and sold 200 million records are they more successful than an artist who has been around for 20 years released 10 albums and sold 80 million albums, but haf 7 number 1s and the highest grossing tour or some random year?

Or as my Mam once put it, the artist who sold the most singles with a picture of someone wearing a pink top on the cover.

The best-selling female recording artists of all time (from wiki blog spot):

1.Madonna (entertainer) 257,000,000 Records Sold
2.Mariah Carey 232,000,000 Records Sold
3.Whitney Houston 220,000,000 Records Sold
4.Nana Mouskouri 206,000,000 Records Sold
5.Diana Ross 189,000,000 Records Sold
6.Donna Summer 178,000,000 Records Sold
7.Celine Dion 175,000,000 Records Sold
8.Barbra Striesand 168,000,000 Records Sold
9.Janet Jackson 138,000,000 Records Sold
10.Shania Twain 132,000,000 Records Sold
11.Tina Turner 125,000,000 Records Sold
12.Dolly Parton 120,000,000 Records Sold
13.Cher 116,000,000 Records Sold
14.Aretha Franklin 108,000,000 Records Sold
15.Britney Spears 78,000,000 Records Sold

Although these figures are from 2006.

That said, none of the top 15 have exactly set the world on fire record selling wise since then, so I doubt if it has changed much.I know nothing about Nana M. so could'nt comment).

The most recent edition of the Guiness book of World Records still lists Madonna as number one. I am fairly certain Mariah is still number 2.

But, if Madonna has released more albums than Mariah over a longer period of time ...could one say Mariah has sold more in a shorter space of time...

(I'm just using those two as examples)

YES, without a doubt Celine Dion is up there with Mariah and Whitney. They are three of the biggest and best female vocalists of all time.

All great vocalists and all have sadly declined over the years.
I dont know why Madonna has been brought into this though as she is not known as a vocalist? But in sales around the world Madonna is way ahead. In ticket sales she is way ahead, there is no comparison.
