Sony KDL-32EX503 picture menu
I have a kdl-32ex503 with Sky HD connected via HDMI1. The problem is that I am unable to see the picture menu (or any other menu) to change settings when viewing Sky via HDMI1. The only way I can change picture settings for the Sky HDMI1 input is to switch the Sky box off and keep the TV on the HDMI1 input. The menus will then display fine. Anyone know a way of getting around this?

Press the options button on the remote. Then select Picture. Select/click the option you want to change and the majority of the screen will be visible whilst you tinker away.
edit: On AV Forums someone had a similar problem which they corrected by changing Settings/External Inputs/HDMI Set-Up/Control for HDMI to OFF. I have to say my EX503 has HDMI control to ON and I'm able to access all settings etc whilst watching SkyHD

Interesting. I have a Sony HX703 and when I first got it I couldn't access any menu at all when I was watching sky with HDMI1. Pressing the home button did absolutely nothing. If I switched to tuner with the source select button then the home button worked and I could use the menu no problem. Switch back to hdmi1 and it broke again. I "fixed" it by doing exactly the same. Turning off control for hdmi. Then the buttons work no problem.
I think the sky box steals some of the remote control buttons when it has control enabled. Maybe it depends on the exact model of sky box. Mine's an amstrad. |

OK - Sony TV's have CEC, which is an HDMI control system - among other things it does auto-switching for the HDMI inputs.
Sky boxes, like most others, don't do CEC - and seem to sometimes upset the CEC system on the TV. If you get this problem, which seems to depend on the set, the box, and the subscription level on the box - then you can prevent it by turning OFF HDMI control on the TV'v menu. I've had this recently on two sets, both were new 3D sets, and the customers upgraded to Sky 3D - it worked OK before the Sky upgrade, but not afterwards. Our 3D demo sets and boxes in the shop work perfectly, even with HDMI control ON, but they are old HD boxes. So just turn HDMI conrol OFF. |

Hi there I have the 703 model and also have the HDMI control on. I have found that as long as I turn on the TV with the Sky remote using the power button only and then press the Sky button to turn on the TV the TV menus etc can always be shown. Give it a try.
