LCD screen has a black semi circle, any advice please.
My 2 year old 40" Samsung LCD tv has suddenly developed a black semi circle in the center (along the bottom) of the screen. The Black semi circle is about 2 inches long.
No-one has touched the screen, it just appeared whilst we were watching it. Would any of you have any idea's what this could be, any advice or info would be appreciated. Cheers, Matt |

I would suggest it's most probably a fault in the LCD screen?, but it's hard to say without seeing it.

I suspect some previous impact damage must have caused a weakness, that actually failed while watching. LCD sets are very very very much more fragile than a CRT set and need to be treated with great care.

My 2 year-old hammers seven shades out of my LCD (he gets very excited sometimes) He also enjoys dragging his finger along the screen and watching the pretty patterns it makes as the liquid crystal distorts. God knows how it's survived this long but so far so good.
![]() We've also had a number smashed by WII controllers. |

Yea no one "admits" to have hit it
![]() Glass is weird, once a tiny bit of crack starts to appear from an impact it can spread like wild fire once the temperature changes, perhaps it was the heat of it being on and off eventually worked it to the point where the crack surged forward. |
