Is Punk music still alive or has EMO took it's place.

Punk's not dead it just deserves to die.

(p.s. I love lots of 'punk' bands, but the label is not befitting)

Nope. Thank f*ck.

(IMHO punk was a reflection of an era, things can be 'punk' now but a revival would be contrived and 'constructive' and 'positive' and about the least punk thing in the world)

I think Punk is very much alive, but you just need to know where to look. If you look beyond the likes of Blink 182 and Green Day to the likes of Rancid, Against Me, Anti Flag, Bad Religion, Assert, and much more.

Plus, stalwarts such as Discharge, The Exploited etc are still going.

I don't think either genres are exactly in the best of health at the moment.

I don't hear much stuff that could really be described as punk that gets me very excited these days, however, that is probably due to lack of effort on my part.

The last thing that I think I could label as punk that sounded in anyway exciting was Gallows..

The saddest indication of punks health for me was my mate, who has always been the most "punk as f**k" person i've ever met (complete with "punks not dead tatoo") told me recently that he mostly just listens to Hank Williams these days, and is training to be an accoutant.

Punk possibly isn't dead, its just taking a nap.

'Punk' is probably one of the most abstract and subjective of all genre labels, and one that I've pondered much while spinning round the sun - I grew up adoring the saccharine taste of US pop-punk ie nofx, pennywise, the vandals and then paid my dues and learnt and loved real punk and hardcore like the damned, crass, exploited, minor threat, opeation ivy, subhumans,DK, uk subs etc etc. found the real meaning of punk and knew that real 'punk' will never be found on a CD or a record, itl;l be found down some shithole nightclub played by junkie alkie f*cks who have actually said "F*ck the system" and lived by it....

Nowadays punk to me is an attitude, one which defined me and almost condemned me, like i have to live by it, it's about being belligerent, self-destructive, nihilistic and also compassionate. It's seeing all the evil in the world and f*cking turning it back on yourself and shouting f*ck this shit wile tearing yourself apart....

I dont hate pop-punk, i love it, i love melody and i lve distorted guitar...but the fact those artist's music has penetrated my consciousness defines them as non-punk. Even writing this I lose a million punkpoints.

But then f*ck it punk is nihilism, punk is seeing the truth in all its gore and just - well, not saying anything, just going RAAAAAAAARRRRRR in it's face....and theres no sweeter hug than a punk hug.

Ive just marketed punk to y'all and now im gonna go punch myself cuz i sound like kablamo. fml.
