Speaking of step 5...
Howay the Bay! Back to Wembley to defend their FA Vase title for the third year running, with a 3-1 win over Wessex League champions Poole, 5-2 on aggregate after a late 2-1 win at Poole in the first leg. Bay will play Coalville, with the high flying Midland Alliance side despatching the reformed Kings Lynn, second in the United Counties League Prem, 6-2 on aggregate, 3-0 at home in the first leg and 3-2 at the Walks yesterday. Ugly scenes between fans after the game though. Nearly 2500 in West Norfolk at the ground! Ironic thing is these four may all be ineligible for the Vase next season. Poole it seems have done work on their ground and it is apaprently now acceptable for promotion, so if they win their many games in hand over faltering Winchester the title is theirs. Coalville are neck and neck with Tipton, and will leapfrog the FA Cup heroes who got to Carlisle if they win their games in hand. Kings Lynn are following massive spending leaders St Neots very closely, but are probably likely to miss out. The big surprise is Whitley Bay have applied for promotion this time, though they are unlikely to catch leaders Spennymoor. Currently fifth, the Bay can just squeak in to second if they win their games in hand, but that may not be enough still to go up. |

New Mills are also on the brink of winning the NW Counties league, and a likely promotion to the Evo-Stik league if their ground is adequate.
I just noticed that most of the big rugby towns have a footie team in our league. All we need are Wigan and Saints. (The only teams in our area, I think.) |

Yesterday I was This week:
Some long midweek trips to far corners of Essex as I'm off work. Tuesday I'm at Brightlingsea (between Colchester and Clacton, where lots of oysters are caught) for the Regent's home game with Holland (not the country, a part of Clacton) in Essex & Suffolk Border Prem. Wednesday I'll be off to Saffron Walden, still harbouring faint hopes of promotion from Ridgeons Div 1 to Ridgeons Prem. They host Godmanchester (they're halfway between Cambridge and Huntingdon). A double bill saturday due to the England game messing things up. Off to Tilbury for a midday kick-off in Ryman Div 1 Nth, with playoff hopefuls (just) Waltham Abbey the visitors. Then I'll have about an hour to go along the A13, up the A130 then up the A12 to the outskirts of Colchester for the game at West Bergholt. Wednesday I checked out Saffron Walden, a beautiful ground with a picturesque setting. Sadly for Walden despite dominating they lost 1-0, ending their promotion hopes. The saturday I saw Tilbury end Waltham Abbeys faint playoff hopes with a last gasp 2-1 win. Then I hopped up to see Brightlingsea Regent win at West Bergholt to send both sides hopes of catching leaders Gas Recreation go in opposite ways. ----- This past week I tried to go and see Aveley v Lowestoft in Ryman Prem on monday, but got stuck going nowhere for two hours on the M25, blocked by an awful accident. Lowestoft won to boost their playoff hopes, and leave Aveleys survival hopes very slim. Went to the Essex & Suffolk Border Prem game at Harwich & Parkeston on tuesday, a side who were in the Ridgeons Eastern Counties for many years before last season pulling out mid season with financial issues. Ground has plenty of character but the stands and terracing are falling apart, with the terracing sealed off, marked 'condemned'. Title chasing Brightlingsea Regent were the visitors, and eventually they beat a youthful side 2-0 who are battling to avoid another drop. Wednesday I was in East London to see basement side Wingate & Finchley keep their slim survival hopes alivewith a 2-1 win over local rivals Redbridge. Yesterday I went to the coast and to FC Clactons ground in Ridgeons Prem, up against Wisbech. Two easly goals killed the home side off, with little other excitement at this nice venue, except for play being stopped for a couple of minutes when a boy pitchside lost his kite and it blew onto the centre of the pitch, leaving the goalie to pick it up with the ref stopping play, and handing it to the kid. ---- This coming week: Monday night I'm at Aveley where the home side must beat Tooting & Mitcham to realistically keep their Ryman Prem status intact. Tuesday I'm up in deepest Suffolk to see if Leiston can all but clinch the Ridgeons title at home to Wroxham, and also check out the necessary ground improvements for the step up. Wednesday I'm taking in one and a half games. Early evening KOs have resumed here this coming week now the evenings are lighter on the step 7 downwards playing fields, so I'll catch local side Rayleigh entertaining title hopefuls Kelvedon Hatch in Essex Olympian Prem, then at half time dash along the A127, M25 and M11 and via Harlow to see Sawbridgeworth v Barkingside in Essex Senior League, with both sides in terrible form. Saturday its the big one, leaders East Thurrock against stuttering second placed Needham Market in Ryman Div 1 Nth - could well be the decider... |

How are St. Helens doing in the NW Counties league?
I just noticed that most of the big rugby towns have a footie team in our league. All we need are Wigan and Saints. (The only teams in our area, I think.) Very hard for step 5 clubs who apply* for promotion to step 4 (*its not a given), as they first need to have facilities upgraded by the March 31st deadline. Then they have to finish in the top two to qualify for promotion, and even then its often just the champions who go up if eligible. Obviously that meansa backlog of good clubs stuck in step 5 as only one can go up at a time. |

Down the bottom Histon look gone now, fourteen points adrift with seven games left. Ditto Eastbourne Boro sadly despite winning their six pointer at Southport yesterday, still nine points from safety with six games left. Altrincham are on the verge of the great escape with only five matches left, only in the drop zone now on goal difference, ditto Forest Green despite their win at Histon yesterday. Southports goal difference is the only thing keeping them above water for now. Hayes & Yeading and Barrow still in the thick of it, plus Tamworth and possibly Cambridge Utd are getting dragged into it as well.

Just one added thing. Hayes & Yeading are about to leave their ground, and are trying to find somewhere nearby to groundshare. If they don't find somewhere, or it isn't 'A' standard, they will be demoted, even if they avoid the bottom four. That could be a twist.
Farnborough if they go down, which has a Grade B |

Worked out on the table last night, we cannot finish bottom, which is a good thing I guess

More comedy shennanigans for The Mighty Yeltz.
http://www.halesowennews.co.uk/news/...S_footballers/ If you dig through the stories a wee bit you'll not be surprised to find Morrell Maison involved still. Disgraceful people.

Todays match was a joke. They handballed it in their box atleast 4 times, and we should have had another 2 penalties for bad tackles. Then they get the ball for once, run out the box and chip our keeper from the halfway. Then we got a late penalty for handball, scored it, and for the rest of the game pushed for a winner with at least another 3 penalties in there. The Referee was completely baised to them, apart from the penalty. We had a player booked for swearing, even though they were stood swearing at the ref after the penalty. One of their players goes to the linesman "F*kin Hell, that wasn't offside", a minute later, a throw that was 100% ours went to them, Corrigan goes "What the f*k!" and the linesman waves his flag like hes had a hand spasm while listening to K'naan and our player gets booked. We only got a penalty because the other linesman decided to be nice or something. Worse than bloody Mark Plattenburg.

Sorry for being a complete moody sod in my last post. Just annoyed that even though we were all over them, and they only got into our half twice, it was a 1-1 draw.
Atleast Curzon lost

What happens if all 4 teams relegated from the Blue Square Premier are from the south, how do they decide who goes into the northern and southern divisions?

Sometimes it means moving a team from the BSS to the BSN (or BSN to BSS), and when that happens that team usually gets given an exemption to being moved again for 3 seasons What I'd love, is for Braintree to not win the BSS, and get moved to the BSN instead |

Atleast Curzon lost ![]() We beat a woeful Lairds yesterday with Wilde getting his 35th of the season, goal machine! Most one sided game I've ever seen too, how we didn't put four or five more past them I dont know. |

They look at all the teams who get relegated from the BSP, and those promoted from the Northern/Southern/Ryman leagues, and balance it out so all the Southern teams go in the BSS, and all the Northern teams go in the BSN

St Albans weren't the furthest north but had best access to the north via the M1, but they're going down. Bishops Stortford are still in trouble but should escape unless Maidenhead and Lewes go on a late run. If Stortford go down theres probably a better case for them to move North, as they're closer to main motorway links to the Midlands and beyong. Of course Histon are now down, and they're further north than all of them. I think their fate could depend on whether Lowestoft or Bury go up via the Ryman Prem playoffs. If one of them does they may stay in the south. Otherwise it's probably the North for them. Same if Cambridge Utd go down - though I doubt they will. Looks most likely two Northern teams will go down. Tamworth, Altrincham, Southport and Barrow are clear North sides. Cambridge and Forest Green are realistically South, but could be forced to go to the North, most likely Forest Green, with Gloucester and Worcester nearby, especially as Redditch are down and the southerly edge to the BSN might need readjusting. |

To be honest, if we can get you and Curzon/Fylde out of the way, next season we could easily challenge for 2nd/3rd. We have a few of the best players in our division, and I think we are the only team that doesn't have a fat sod in net, so I don't see how we are so far down. |

So creepy Crawley have finally done it, winning the Conf Nat title on saturday with a 3-0 win at Tamworth.
AFC Wimbledon and Luton neck and neck in the race for second. Very tight below them. Wrexham have wobbled of late, hanging onto fourth. Fleetwood have made a late charge and are fifth. Kidderminster and York are right behind with a game in hand. Yorks win over Newport ended their hopes. We're surely now out of it after some bad recent results, ditto Grimsby and Mansfield. Rushden have also slipped away, not helped by players going unpaid, player embargos and the like. Histons defeat at Gateshead on saturday sealed their relegation. Eastbourne Boro are also all but down now. Very close upto 16th placed Barrow, with Altrincham and Southport rounding off the bottom four, but within touching distance of safety. Tamworth, Forest Green (who beat Alts at the weekend) and Cambridge still deep in trouble. Barrows 5-0 win over Kettering shot them up the table, and some win for Hayes & Yeading, thrashing Mansfield 4-0. That battle is going right down to the wire. |

After AFC Telford lost to third placed Boston, Alfreton are now very close to securing the Conf Nth title. They lead by eight points with two games in hand, and could have the title secured on saturday.
Telford and Boston look fairly comfortable for playoff places. Very tight below them though. Nuneaton have slipped a little lately and have the fewest games left. Guiseley are now into the top five, above Solihull Moors, whose long unbeaten run ended barely a week ago. The ones to watch are Eastwood, on a storming run which has taken them to the brink of the playoffs. Redditch are already down. Hyde sacked their manager last monday and it had the desired effect, beating Hinckley to move above Stafford with four games to go. Gainsboroughs win at Nuneaton all but secures their status for another season. Gloucester can relax now after their win at Blyth. |

After some bad results allowed Farnborough to close right up, Braintree got some more breathing space at the top of Conf Sth at the weekend, as they won at Bromley and Farnborough lost at Welling. Welling would be level with Farnborough were it not for their five point deduction.
Welling are just behind Ebbsfleet. Chelmsford move back into fifth after Woking lost at Dartford. Dover and Eastleigh are right behind, and the latter have a game in hand tomorrow night. St Albans were doomed for sure saturday after losing at Ebbsfleet. Maidenhead won one of their games in hand last monday and drew at the weekend. They are five points from safety with a game in hand. Lewes are now three points behind Thurrock. Stortford and Boreham Wood are just ahead but everyone else is probably safe now. |
