Bump. Hello peeps, no posts in a month, have we just stopped watching football
We lost 2-1 yesterday in a game we should have really won.

We've had two 2-1 wins this week and have now clawed our way to within a whisker of the playoff positions. Marine away on Saturday was a game of two halves. They had the better of the first and deservedly took the lead but we dominated after halftime and were worthy winners although the winning goal didn't arrive until the 89th minute
Last night we were at home vs Matlock and it was another Jeckyll/Hyde affair. This time we had the better of the first half and were well worth the 2-0 lead at the break. Second half saw the Gladiators much improved and we were penned back for long periods. Their only goal turned out to be just consolation but they will feel that they might have deserved a point I'd imagine.
Saturday will see us trek down to Walsall to pay a first ever visit to Rushall Olympic. Looking forward to it.
The NPL, Prem title already looks to be firmly in Chester's grasp (66 pts from 30) but below them it is very tight - 2nd, 3rd & 4th, all on 58 points - Vics (played 29), Hednesford (played 31) and Chorley (played 32). 5th are Bradford Park Avenue with 56 points from 29 played. FC United sit just outside of the playoff places in 6th with 55 points from 31 matches with Marine in 7th on also on 55 points althought they've played 33 matches.

Although 2nd in the Unibond Premier, Northwich have been expelled and refused entry to the play-offs. This is due to various breaches of financial regulations. They are continuing to fulfill their fixtures as an appeal is pending.
They have no ground at the moment and have agreed to play their home games at Stafford next season. Whether this agreement will stand if they are demoted several divisions is open to question

Mansfield confirmed second last night with a pretty convincing display against second place Wrexham, that's now 15 wins in the last 17 games for the Stags, the other 2 were a draw and a loss, both to Champions Fleetwood.
The keeper even managed to get on the scoresheet last night !!!
This change in form has all come since Mansfield secured the stadium back from the ex owner of the club.

Northern Premier League, Premier Division update.
Chester 'pi$$ed this tinpot league' as most sensible people presumed they would. Finished with 100 points and 100 goals from 42 matches so all in all not a bad effort at all. It would be interesting to see a league table based on points accrued per £1k spent on playing budget........not certain that Chester would still top that version but nevertheless their achievement should not be demeaned. Their sizeable crowds have generated the income and Neil Young appears to have spent it wisely.
Northwich Vics - finished 2nd but in a shocking (NOT) development found their on-field efforts overshadowed by catastrophic financial issues off the pitch. The NPL management committee banned them from participating in the play-offs and expelled them from the league but this punishment was reduced by the Football Association on appeal. The play-off ban remains but the FA have ruled that the NPL was excessive in kicking them out and have allowed for them to simply to be relegated into NPL Div 1. So no Vics in the play-off.
Chorley - another side with significant financial issues in the early part of the season but somehow Gary Flitcroft kept the squad together - even enhancing it significantly at the deadline - and with Vics disqualification the Magpies take the first seed position for the play-offs.
Bradford Park Avenue - recent form has seen the Horsfall side stumble into the play-offs. Apparently been a bit decimated with injuries but early season form sees them finish 4th.
Hednesford Town - the Pitmen qualify for post-season action again. Excellent early season home form saw them look like the early Chester challengers but they fell away post-Christmas. Held out for a nervy 0-0 on the final day to secure the 'final' play-off berth with 5th place.
FC United of Manchester - indifferent early season form and a lack of consistency saw the Rebels looking like no more than an outside bet to edge into the play-offs. A great run in the new year took them above Hednesford and they looked certain qualifiers. Suspensions took their toll with 3 losses on the trot around Easter leaving them on the outside looking in. Even a final day trouncing of Vics was not enough as they ended in 6th place, one point worse off than Hednesford.
With Vics demise the play-offs were delayed whilst the appeal was heard so rather than a final this weekend we'll see the semis on Saturday with the final being played the following weekend. Chorley vs FC United looks to be close to a 4,000 sellout with both clubs reporting brisk ticket sales. BPA vs Hednesford will be less well attended but no less hard fought.
Which of these sides will join Chester in the Conference North next season? It's tough to look beyond the winners of the Chorley vs FC United semi-final but in sudden-death matches strange results can and do occur.

Three Bridges 1 - 0 Rye United
Three Bridges win the Sussex County League!
Rye United were in second spot before the game, requiring a win at Bridges to win the title; Bridges just requiring a draw. Considering Tuesday's nervy home game against Peacehaven, which resulted in a 2-2 draw where a win would have won the title, Bridges had to step up a gear this time against a very fancied Rye team. Personally, I was pessimistic of our chances, feeling that Rye would have been boosted by our "stumble" on Tuesday, which would have added to Bridges' nerves today. However, we well matched them in the game, seemingly not nervous at all and up for the fight, eventually scoring in the 55 minute (Williams Peauroux) to settle our nerves a bit. Rye helped after that by getting a man sent off; so thanks, Rye! It was a close game - at least up till we scored - but a deserved win, nonetheless.
It was only recently that Bridges took the top spot from the likes of Rye and Lancing, which at the beginning of the season and even after Xmas seemed to be a pipe dream. All the more sweeter! In some ways it's an extra pity for Rye, who finished third in the league due to Lancing winning 6-0 away at AFC Uckfield. Rye were in the top spot throughout most of the season, so that has to be a bitter blow.
First time Bridges has won the County League (second three times). Ah well, next year in the Ryman South. Just hope we can stay there.

5 seasons on, I know I've complained a lot, and was gutted at missing the Playoffs, but how far have we come? It is mental, even 3 seasons ago when we were relegation favourites of the Conference.
