Lost at Braintree so 3 points off safety therefore hanging by their finger nails with 2 games to go.

So for the playoffs it is 4 from 5 teams (Cambridge being already there) depending on Braintree getting a positive result at Barnet shortly. Then they have Grimsby at home next weekend. Big slip up from Halifax today.

Dartford 1 Tamworth 3. Dreadful performance. Down to the South division.

Braintree blew their chance with a draw at Barnet. They can technically still make it but need a miracle given Gateshead only need a draw at home to freefalling Cambridge (Halifax can't really be caught because their GD is much better than Braintree's).

Massive chance missed by Braintree, if they had won their final 2 games they would have been guaranteed a playoff place.

Really backing gateshead here. A newcastle fan but would love to see them get into the playoffs where the promotion spot could go anywhere.

Would be good to have another north east team in the league

Gateshead born, Gateshead bred, and you can feel the excitement in the town. Gary Mills has done wonders for us.

Chester ahead in the relegation battle. Hereford going down as it stands.

Hereford just stayed up thanks to a winner 2 minutes from time.

Good luck to those in the play-offs.

What a finish. But it's not over yet, there's still the AGM Cup to come. Hereford need to get their finances sorted or Chester will get a reprieve.

Ah - I remember for a while somebody would survive because another team would get kicked out due to their finances.

Looks likely Wycombe will be joining this thread with Torquay next season. Local side for me but 5 of the bottom 6 won yesterday which was a huge blow. They play each other next week but need three results in their favour.

The Conference dropped the rule requiring clubs to prove they had enough money to keep going throughout the following season, after criticism that clubs were getting relegated or even thrown out of the Conference altogether for seemingly arbitrary reasons. The only situation that would save Chester would be if Hereford went bust before the start of next season, and their fans have supposedly raised enough money to prevent that.

Still, it may not be of much solace to Chester fans, but they can at least dust themselves off and try again in the Conference North next season. Had Hereford been relegated to that division, there's a very good chance it would have finished them off completely.

Gateshead and Grimsby battle out a 1-1 draw. Starting to fancy Gateshead to go up, although a Gateshead/Halifax final will be good. A lot to still play for though, it could be any of them

Grimsby have a very good away record, second only to Luton this season. Grimsby also looked a lot better than Gateshead last night after a good first 10 minutes from Gateshead.

Fancy Grimsby to get it done in the 2nd leg.

Gateshead are now unbeaten in 13 games though.

Grimsby down to 9 men after 2 red cards

10 mins to go, 2-2 on aggregate and the possibility of extra time

Gateshead win it with two late goals, 3-1 on the day, 4-2 on agg.

Earlier Cambridge beat Halifax 2-0 to win 2-1 on agg.

Enjoy your day out at Wembley, Eugene.

Gateshead through to Wembley.

Genuine question to our Gateshead correspondent (when he gets back from celebrating the win) what sort of crowds do you think you'd get week in week out in League 2? Averaged under 1000 this season but then able to get 8000 for a playoff semi final. How many of those 7000 Newcastle fans do you think would turn up regularly for a League team?

Its a lot more than Newcastle fans. The north east has an incredibly strong non league scene in the absence of lower football league clubs.

Traditionally Gateshead are a Co Durham side and there'll be just as many Sunderland fans there today as Newcastle fans and there'll be many from the town who are simply attracted by the occasion.

Mills has done an astounding job. 6th bottom to Wembley.

Gateshead have lost 2 generation of fans through losing league football. They may yet get them back.

Of course the horrible stadium in a poor location doesn't help and hopefully they can move into their new stadium in a few years.

and credit to Graham Wood. A superb Chairman

The extra fans were a mixture of Newcastle and Sunderland.

I'm actually ashamed of some of the actions from tonight, the game was fantastic, but the pitch invasions were mostly just Newcastle / Sunderland fans wanting to be arseholes.

I do believe our gates will go up in League Two. Not by the increase we've had this weekend, but I think we could at least double them.

Today is not for the bandwagon jumpers though, the Newcastle / Sunderland supporters who decided to "pop along cos it was on the telly". This is for the hard suffering fans who have been going even longer than me, stood by the team through the worst of times and who's hard work is now being rewarded.

HEED ARMY.
