Was a 2nd yellow card, 2nd one was correct, but the 1st one he wrongly got early one when our number 11 was also booked

Playing 6 upfront for the last 10 minutes was taking the piss a bit
The goal-scorer for us had never scored a free kick before according to his dad on the way home!

Some of the kids there were typical Essex really I thought, one looked about 12 and was smoking in a wooden stand whilst constantly swearing, stewards just ignored it

We tried to get the replay arranged for Monday, but the Brentwood manager said no for some reason (extra time to rest?)
Ah yes I saw that incident. Did seem a bit much, just before half time.

It was admittedly a fairly 'easy' free kick, just needed to get it on target. Well done to him for volunteering though!

It was like the Alamo at the end, I think we all knew Brentwood couldn't hold on. They were virtually back on their goal line in the end.

A draw was a fair result, but as a neutral, well done Brentwood for really making a game of it.

I can only imagine the Brentwood guy wanted the replay on tuesday, because of rest as you say, but also they have FA Trophy games IIRC?

Stewarding was awful. I was at a midweek league game at Brentwood the other week where it was spot the steward (and almost the fan!). After yesterday they weren't needed either, they did absolutely nothing. The crowd were well behaved and there to enjoy the game, but there were some individual idiots out there. I'm amazed at the things that get ignored in that wooden stand, especially as its by the clubhouse as well. I'd be tempted to file a complaint, the smoking incident could have been extremely serious given its location.

Potential banana skin for Gateshead there, if we were at home, I would fancy us no problem, but away, hmm.

My tie of the round is Tamworth v Grimsby. Tamworth have been doing well this season whilst Grimsby were a league team last season. For glamour ties look no further than Lincoln Moorlands (if they win their replay) v Darlington. Lincoln MR are a step 5 team while Darlington were in the football league last saeson. Barwell,Hythe,Poole Town haven't been in the 1st round before so it would be great if they can get through and play a big league team. Canvey Island could also cause a few problems as they've beaten quite a few league teams in recent years.

I heard a bit of Gateshead's game on the radio against Tamworth on Saturday. They've been playing really well recently. The only time I remember them playing very badly was the match away to Cambridge.

Canvey caused all manner of shocks in the Jeff King days when he bankrolled them up to the Conference. Since he and the money went to Chelmsford though they've not even been close to causing any upsets, even in the early qualifying rounds.

Would love Poole and Hythe to get their day in the sun. I don't think Hythe will be strong enough to hold off Bury or Staines. Poole, great as they are at their level, will probably fall short against Hayes & Yeading. Don't want Barwell to do well, they pay massive money to bankroll their recent success, so I personally don't care about them.

Tamworth started off well, but have faded of late. Then again Grimsby aren't exactly flying either.

Lincoln Moorlands Railway (Northern Counties East) - our players will be absolutely sh1tting themselves if they have to go there, as I bet the facilites for very basic. It might give some of the players a reality check after the shambles that was saturday. I seem to remember us battering Mossley in the cup some years ago, so that might actually be the better tie.
----
Last saturday was just a total disgrace. Well done to Hayes & Yeading, they must be pleased as punch. Our Quakers were absolutely livid, and various rumours Cooper was walking, but apparently changed his mind. A total circus. And to top it all off, our best player Paul Terry, is out for the season. We are shipwrecked, and the attendance was embarassing - 1500!! Just over 5% capacity! The club is in danger of falling off the edge after several near misses down the line.

As much as I'm annoyed at my own club, our neighbours the Heed deserve enormous credit, first for their superb form (now nineth!) and for sticking by Ian Brodie when he was getting so much stick at the start of the season. Great job lads!

So a round up of the weekends Conference National action:

Crawleys lead at the top is down to just a point, after dropping points up at Barrow, while AFC Wimbledon came from behind to win at playoff chasing Wrexham.

A gap then of five points to the superb Newport, now in third thanks to a 4-0 rout of York (whose caretaker boss departed last week). Whats going on Launch? Fleetwood drop to fourth, pegged back late at Highbury by struggling Cambridge Utd. Luton remain in fifth despite not playing, but only hold it on goal difference (with a game in hand) over Rushden, who saw off playoff rivals Mansfield. Grimsby missed the chance to leapfrog Luton, going down at Kidderminster, who move level on points with the Mariners, as do in form Gateshead, 3-1 winners over Tamworth.

Wrexham and Tamworth, and us lot drop to mid table after our defeats. Kettering are now in the top half thanks to their win at Southport. A late Eastbourne Boro equaliser ensured the south coast outfit came away from Twerton Park with a point at Bath.

Altrincham remain rooted to the bottom after a damaging loss at fellow strugglers Histon. Forest Green remain second bottom, despite their 3-3 draw at the Lawn against Grimsby on thursday. Histon leapfrog Cambridge but remain in the bottom four on goal difference to Bath and Barrow, after both sides picked up a point at home. Southport just a point further up the road, but Hayes & Yeadings shock win (ha ha...) lifts them two points clear of the drop zone. York getting dragged into trouble now, and so it seems, are us Quakers too....

A couple of games in Conf Nth...

Boston moved to within a point of leaders Alfreton from a game more, after a win at strugglers Hyde.

Down the bottom, the tension on Gainsborough boss Brian Little eased with a win up at Blyth taking Trinity out the bottom two, and leaving Hyde at the foot of the table. Trinity only above the drop zone however on goal difference to Redditch, on level points as Vauxhall Motors.

Another shock in the FA Cup tonight, as Ryman Div 1 Sth Met Police won at Ryman Prem Wealdstone (who got to play Rotherham in R1 proper last season) after extra time. They now go to Ryman Prem Hendon for the chance of glory.
St Albans avoided a banana skin though, winning tonight at high flying Ryman Prem side Kingstonian, going to Luton in the next round.

Heres a rundown of the FA Cup draw, broken down in full...

Gap of 4 divisions:
Wessex League back-to-back champions Poole host Hayes & Yeading (Conf Nat).
If Northern Counties East Prem Lincoln Moorlands Railway win their replay at Evo-Stik Div 1 Nth Mossley on tuesday, they will host Conf Nat/ex-League Two Darlington!

Gap of 3 divisions:
Kent League Hythe could host Staines, if the Conf Sth side win their replay with Ryman Prem Bury.
Eastern Counties Prem Leiston could host Conf Sth Dartford, if the Darts win their replay with Ryman Prem Canvey.
Should lowest ranked side step 6 East Midlands Counties outfit Radcliffe Olympic win at Midland Alliance leaders Tipton on wednesday, they could go to Evo-Stik Prem Frickley, if they win their own replay against Evo-Stik Div 1 Sth Sheffield.

Gap of 2 divisions:
Evo-Stik Prem reformed club FC Halifax host Conf Nat Mansfield.
Southern Prem Swindon Supermarine host Conf Nat Bath for a great local derby!
Evo-Stik Prem FC United of Manchester host Conf Nat Barrow.
Buxton (Evo-Stik Prem) could go to Conf Nat Fleetwood, if they win their replay at Conf Nth AFC Telford.
Ryman Prem Harrow go to Eastbourne Boro (Conf Nat).
Brentwood (Ryman Div 1 Nth) will host Eastleigh (Conf Sth) if they beat Woking in their replay.
Newcastle Town (Evo-Stik Div 1 Sth) will go to Conf Nth Vauxhall Motors if they Motormen win their replay against Evo-Stik Prem North Ferriby.
Evo-Stik Div 1 Sth leaders Barwell could go to Conf Nth Droylsden if they win their replay at home to fellow Conf Nth side Solihull Moors.

Gap of 1 division:
Conf Sth Basingstoke entertain Conf Nat second placed side AFC Wimbledon.
Conf Sth St Albans go to Conf Nat Luton.
Conf Sth Havant & Waterlooville (cup Kings) host Conf Nat Histon.
Conf Sth Lewes go to Conf Nat Cambridge Utd.
Maidenhead (Conf Sth) go to Forest Green (Conf Nat).
Ryman Prem Carshalton host the winner of the Conf Sth top of the table replay between Bromley and Chelmsford.
Southern Prem Salisbury go to Conf Nth Corby.
Ryman Div 1 Sth Met Police go to Ryman Prem Hendon.

Some interesting all Conference ties:
Newport v Crawley (Conf Nat high flying clash).
Kettering v Rushden & Diamonds (Conf Nat/A14 Northants derby!).
Kidderminster v York (Conf Nat).
Tamworth v Grimsby (Conf Nat).
Wrexham v Southport (Conf Nat).
Altrincham v Gateshead (Conf Nat).
Workington v Nuneaton (Conf Nth).
Farnborough v Dover (Conf Sth).
Guiseley v Redditch (Conf Nth).
Ebbsfleet v Boreham Wood (Conf Sth).
Stalybridge Celtic v Eastwood (Conf Nth).

At least two step 3 sides guaranteed a first round proper place.

Isn't he the lead singer of the Lightning Seeds?

It's Ian Bogie, and he has been doing a great job.

I will hold my hands up, after the 5-0 demolishing against Cambridge, I was ready to boot him, but I have been proved wrong and glad of it.

So yesterday it was FA Cup Qualifying Round 3, with the winning sides through to face a possible Conference big boy like Luton, before the first round proper. <snip>
No fairytale run for Northern League Whitley Bay, who lost at Conf Nth Guiseley, nor for fellow divisional side Norton & Stockton Ancients, who lost 5-2 at home to Evo-Stik Prem FC Utd - pitch invasions galore here!
Pitch invasions galore sounds a bit dramatic whereas, in reality, they were more like brief, joyous incursions onto the playing surface in celebration of an equalising goal and then 2 further goals that ensured our progression.

N&S Ancients were superb hosts and they dealt well with the 1500 plus crowd whereas they normally expect to see <200 for Northern League matches. A really enjoyable day was had by all and hopefully they'll make good use of the windfall money received on the day. They're a decent side and were not unworthy of the 2-1 lead that they took early in the 2nd half (recovering well from our opener inside 10 mins). Perhaps our player's fitness told in the final quarter of the match when we scored 3 to give the scoreline an unfair look to it at 2-5.

Bring on the Barrow! Now confirmed as Gigg Lane 3pm on the Sunday (as our landlords are at home on Saturday).

Gateshead midfielder Alex Francis has been released from his one year contract.

Guess he didn't want to sit it out on the bench.

All the best Francis

The outstanding replays from the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Cup brought some surprise results.

The biggest shock for me was at the Bucks stadium, where AFC Telford were dumped out on penalties by nine man Buxton. The Conf Nth side had a two man advantage for the whole of extra time, but the Evo-Stik Prem club shocked the Bucks with a last gasp equaliser, going on to win the shootout. Buxton have a tough ask to get to R1 proper, going to Conf moneybags Fleetwood.

The worlds oldest club, Sheffield, are through to the next stage of the competition, with a surprise win at Evo-Stik Prem Frickley. The Evo-Stik Div 1 Sth side now have a great chance of making R1 proper, and a chance of a tie with Sheffield Wednesday, as they now host a side from a level below them. Midland Alliance Tipton put out the lowest ranked side left, the only from step 6, East Midland Counties Radcliffe Olympic, to guarantee at least one step 4 club will be in the first round proper.

A little shock at Barwell (whose manager has just taken charge at Kettering), where the big spending Evo-Stik Div 1 Sth guys who equalised in the 96th min at Solihull Moors on saturday, beat their Conf Nth opponents 3-1 to set up a tie at fellow Conf Nth side Droylsden.

Dartford came very close to going out at home to Canvey Island last night. Trailing 1-0, then letting a 3-1 lead slip, they almost conceded in extra time to the Ryman Prem side. Then on penalties the Darts missed a penalty in sudden death, only for Canvey to do the same, and the Conf Sth side made the most of that to squeeze through 9-8 on spot kicks! The Conf Sth side now go to Eastern Counties side Leiston (I may be there).

Conf Nth Vauxhall Motors also needed penalties to see off the stubborn resistance of Evo-Stik Prem North Ferriby, and now host Evo-Stik Div 1 Sth Newcastle Town for a place in R1 proper.

Woking left it late to see off stubborn Ryman Div 1 Nth Brentwood, scoring the only goal on 83 mins with a rare piece of quality. Cards now have an all Conf Sth affair with Eastleigh at Kingfield next saturday.

A surprise scoreline at Bromley, where the Conf Sth unbeaten leaders were swept aside 3-0 on their own turf by third placed Chelmsford. Clarets now through to face Ryman Prem Carshalton away, who they dare not underestimate after Athletics demolition of strong Essex rivals Braintree at the weekend.

No dream run this year in the FA Cup for Bury Town, with the Ryman Prem outfit going down at Conf Sth Staines - themselves no strangers to cup runs. Staines should fancy their chances again, going to Kent League Hythe next.

Finally the result us Quakers were watching for, Evo-Stik Div 1 Nth Mossley brushed aside Northern Counties East Prem Lincoln Moorlands Railway to set up a home tie against Darlo of the Conference.

Easy mistake to make when one has the mp3 on! At least I didn't put 'Ian Brady'!

Still think staying up should be the Heed objective despite this purple patch. Then see how you go from there. You're above us lot, the table doesn't lie.

Apologies for the confusion. I wasn't suggesting it was a mischievous invasion. I'm sure it couldn't be helped as N&S and other clubs, even for the Northern League, can't expect to deal with gates like that all the time.

Good luck to FC Utd and I hope the crowd is good. Barrow are struggling a bit this season, but will be looking for another good cup run.

Well surely The Mighty Dabbers get come back of the night? 6-2 down with 21 minutes left to draw 6-6!! The Dabbers may well still be second from bottom in the Evo Stick Premier Division, but Nantwich are not going down without a fight!!

Being a fan of northern league football I was disappointed that Ashington, Norton and Stockton , Shildon went out. Glad Whitley Bay lost because I used to go and watch them but one of the club officials was nasty so I didn't go anymore.

The northern league had a 9-5 score the other week. Guisborough beat Thornaby in the North Riding cup. What has been the biggest score you've watched while you've been at a game. I've saw 9 goals a few times (Consett 6 Whitley Bay 3, Consett 8 Bishop Auckland 1 and Hebburn 5 Esh Winning 4).

Yes terribly sad. I didn't even know he had been ill. One half of the great double act with Chapple in Wokings glory days. A sad loss to Yeovil as well.

Yes a shame they've all fallen, but they did have some tough ties against Conference North opposition. A step too far.

6-6 sounds an incredible game at Nantwich! I went to a Durham senior cup game once as a boy in the 80s, think it was Northalerton, and they won 13-0 or something like that.

Three weeks ago I saw Chelmsford 7-0 Chertsey, though theres a three division gap there as it was the FA Cup.

I notice in the United Counties League St Neots won their FA Vase game 11-0 against Felixstowe & Walton Utd, then won their next league game 13-0 away (OMG!!!) at Yaxley, then won 5-1 at then leaders Irchester. That takes some beating, 29 goals in three games. They've signed some big players there, such as ex Villa/Kiddy/Halesowen man Stefan Moore. Must be on a bomb.

A brilliant result for Newport County yesterday in the Conference National, going to moneybags Crawley and winning 3-2. Over 500 Newport fans made the journey to Sussex, in a match slightly marred by crowd trouble. Crawley slip off top spot, after AFC Wimbledon just about edged past in form Gateshead, with Newport five points behind the Dons in third.

Luton move up into fourth with a game in hand, after eventually seeing off Eastbourne Boro down on the south coast. Hatters leapfrog Fleetwood, who suffered a surprise loss at bottom club Altrincham. Rushden are level with Fleetwood now after a last gasp win at Tamworth. Mansfield lost ground though, conceding a last gasp equaliser at Field Mill to Darlington (that’s more like it, boys!). Wrexham move back into play off contention with a comfortable win at struggling Hayes & Yeading, though frustration for Grimsby as the Mariners failed to beat Southport at home. Kidderminsters ten men grabbed a point at Kettering, but both sides now slip a few points off fifth spot.

Alts victory drags them within a point of Forest Green, who lost their six pointer at home to Histon. Both sides now getting cut off at the bottom. Barrow drop into the bottom four, leapfrogged by Cambridge Utd, who beat them yesterday at the Abbey stadium. Bath slip back into the relegation zone, despite picking up a decent point at York. Hayes & Yeading now just a point above the dotted line, ditto Cambridge and Southport, with Histon and York a point further up the road. Eastbourne, Tamworth and Darlo will all be looking over their shoulders now.
