Way to Go wor Mel! as they say it in Geordie - well I think that's what a Geordie would say.

The Prom pix of kids I taught are wonderful. It's amazing how some change so much and some still look the same. Jean at 5 is NOT Jean at 16 or 18 but James at 4 is STILL James at 18.
PQ are you still watching Popstar to Operastar? I got myself into a little trouble on the PtO thread by implying that some posters are a little precious, even condescending, when it comes to the 'them and us' mentality of some self appointed opera experts. I can still feel the heat of the coals heaped upon my head when trying to insist that appreciation of good music (classical, opera and ballet etc) is bound more by opportunity than class. Sadly my posts to this effect were culled.

@Ignazio - I am still watching it and sadly I know a whole lot of music snobs. I am no expert on music but I can appreciate all different types from punk to rock to opera and everything and anything else there is apart from "What is that noise?" ones

I am officially feeling Very Sorry For myself.
Have caught tonsilitis off M and spent all day in bed feeling terrible and sleeping. And now?
Now I still feel terrible but I can't get to sleep.

I was indeed - cruel world!

The irony is that whilst some feel free to patronise opera 'virgins' and sneer at their voting criteria (apparently Joe's supporters are idiots who shouldn't be allowed a vote) those who mock become sensitive in the extreme to any criticism of the perpetuation of their own 'them and us' attitude.

Right - off my soapbox for now.

Handy - poor you. Honey, lemon and whisky might ease the throat and induce a little sleep.

A hot toddy might not cure you Handymelon but after a few of them you wont care.

I just had a peek at the Pop Star to Opera Star thread on the TV forum. I'm so glad I didn't comment on there how much I was getting into it. I'd have been chewed up spat out then trod on.

Vent away, it's why we're here.

Although I'm here to stop myself venting somewhere else

I'm so excited at this final of Pop Star to Opera Star - doesn't take much these days to get me clapping my hands with glee

Poor snowy.

Nothing much to report from here, apart from *the authorities* taking a bit more notice of the fact that my mum is really very ill. It looks like, finally, she'll be made to accept some help... Obviously, that kind of thing brings its own stresses.
