Am I the only one who hasn't got a kindle and doesn't want one - I love the smell and feel of a book and I find turning the pages very satisfying.

I haven't got one and have no urge to rush out and get one, although a friend of mine has explained how useful they are... I'd feel that my books were somehow surplus to requirements if I got one, and I love them too much Plus which we have now got four times the amount of books we had previously thanks to my mother's demise - my first decluttering task this year is to "weed" the collection.

Morning all Life beginning to return to normal, and I love it

I'm a real book girl too, but the Kindle's a fab gadget. What I'm loving about it at the moment is the free or 0.49p stuff - 100s (or even 1000s) of books that cost nothing. Some I've read but no longer have, some I've always wanted to read, some that I'd never thought of and probably wouldn't buy but might turn out to be just my thing (and it doesn't matter if not). Also, it's amazing to think of a book or read a review and then have it there to read in seconds. That's really cool.

I'll still go real book buying and I'm definitely keeping all the ones I have, but having a few hundred books of your choice in your handbag, so to speak, is really amazing.

Go on... get one. And you Sad.

I can see it being good on a flight or train journey and for holiday reading.

I'll think about it.

Yep, this was the angle my mate was taking - an avid reader, she normally takes a suitcase full of books away with her, and no longer has to

I guess it would be jolly useful if you were stuck in hospital as well.

Still wavering, here and anyway, I'm Not Here.

This program is fab. http://calibre-ebook.com/

You can convert files to Kindle format with it and it does all the uploading too. Website is a tad slow so be patient.

Merry 2011 Grumpsters! x

Interesting reading about the kindle - KJ & batgirl you're doing a good job on potentially converting me!

Very tense times here, it's THE Archers episode of all time at 7pm and I am having to partake in some nerve soothing shiraz

That's a top tip KJ.

As far as the Archers - I love the theme tune but that's as far as I've ever got with it...

Here, it's been a lovely day apart from a bit of pool rage. Some silly man decided to get into my lane, then started doing an extremely showy and splashy yet slow front crawl. It was like swimming past a distressed whale.

Mine was bought to help with the decluttering. Little un has to have another op this year so it willl be very useful for my stay too.

Currently in bed with swine flu so am using it to keep me entertained as it's lighter than a book.

Will check the websites KJ.

Meanwhile, please send loads of healing vibes as I feel bleurgh.

I'm a strong swimmer and how I love those swimmers who, wearing the latest swimwear, stand at the end of the pool posing, preening and stretching before doing an almighty belly flop and almost drowning.

I have a female friend who swims at a very high standard - you wouldn't believe the number of swimmers (both male and female) who have probably had a bit of training and push in front of her when diving in. They soon find what they're up against when they feel her right on their heels after her first stroke. I tell her to pull at their ankles and swim over them - but she's nicer than me so contents herself with tickling their feet.

Poor Amica! (((((((germ free huggle))))))
You do go through the wars, don't you?

Take care of yourself, babe!

Here, we had a slobby morning and our big postponed roast dinner, followed by a walk through the village and then Melony and I made mince-pies. Blis!

Hello Grumpies!

Belated Happy New Year to you all. Hope that '11 is a better year for everyone.

I had swine flu last winter ( feel better soon Amica) and it set me into a relapse of my illness. On top of that I had to go through the arduous task of arranging for and moving all my possessions from Ireland to Holland and all the offficial paperwork involved in moving country. That really stressed me out big time as well so I was left with limited use of my hands and some visual problems. That forced me to severely cut off my internet use and "save" my hands for things like playing the piano, cooking and handicrafts on top of the day to day things requiring hands and eyes. Unfortunately, even those things have had to be curtailed as well. (apologies for not sending cards, answering e-mails, messages, etc. throughout the year but thanks for them all)

Been going through medical tests here and learning how the Dutch medical system works. ( Not quite sure what to make of it but very different from both the UK and the US and quite confusing.)

Otherwise, me and Mr. Home are still having a laugh more or less every day and adjusting to married life with me here full-time, so enough of me.

I'm glad that you're still here and there to support each other through life's sometimes unkind circumstances. Been reading the thread from time to time but probably have a lot of catching up to do.

Don't know when I'll be back again but am trying to get back to being online more and keeping up with friends.

Bye for now!

xx
