Mr M has it and takes anti-spasmodics which mostly take the edge off. It's stress-related (tick!) so de-stressing stuff helps, but no, not a lot you can do if it *is* IBS but work out how to manage it. Mr M finds it comes and goes.

The good news is it doesn't seem to matter a damn what you eat or don't eat, so at least you don't have to follow a stupid diet plan...

I did that very thing... and it was much appreciated.

Hope your tummy's feeling okay.

Pissy weather here.

Tummy's fine today and all the stuff with it being stress related makes absolute sense other than the 6am wake up call I had on New Years' Day - but maybe the prospect of having the inlaws round was more stressful than I'd realised

Been out for lunch today and have totally pigged myself. So there

Bought myself some Colpermin - going to give them a whirl and see if they help Thanks for the advice HM - and hugs to Mr M because this really is horrid

*throws sunshine around thread to cheer everyone up* - God knows why, when I now have to hit Sainsburys

I don't believe you - I think it's your idea of occasional bliss.

We appear to be getting slightly, or even very, pissed tonight. We spent the afternoon outside being active then got in and thought... PG. I'm going to think of it in terms of achieving a good balance between what is good and what is bad for you. Blanace is important.

*hick*EDit - bloody spellings. I know how to spell thought!

Hope it works out, Sad!
Worth seeing the GP for a diagnosis and some prescription stuff if the Colpermin helps, I should think...

Primeval and Hustle are my two telly joys at the moment - both gloriously escapist rubbish! We record Primeval and usually watch it on Sun or Mon night to cheer us up at the start of the working week!

Morning/evening all

Thanks for all the positive vibes and stuff - very much appreciated! The jury is still out on whether the cancer is spreading or not, the specialist is going to speak to the surgeon to discuss options now. It seems likely that m-i-l will have to have another scan and also get some of this fluid that is accumulating drawn for testing. Hopefully hear back on this soon. Meanwhile, she has been so sick from the last lot of chemo that she was admitted to hospital yesterday. OH was working til 10pm with no-one to cover for him, so I went up there after the ambulance and stayed for 3 hours or so until she was sorted out with drips and pain-relief and generally comfortable. Not one of her kids could be arsed to go up there and they all live locally. I despair of them.

Ooooh the other drama was that when I eventually did get out of the hospital I went back to the car only to find that it had passed away. The battery was as flat as a pancake thats been rolled over several times by a steam-roller! Luckily we have a friend staying with us for a few months til he gets his life back on track, he was looking after his lad, LittlePlum and my stepson (10) while I was at the hospital, so he had to pack them all up and come and rescue me with a jump start! Then on the way home I noticed the tyre had gone very flat, so I had to stop at the servo (petrol station) and pump that up! I was like a limp lettuce leaf by the time I got home! Luckily the battery seems to have recharged ok, so hopefully it will be ok. Going to borrow one of those jump-starter thingos to keep in the car so I can be independant in case it dies on me again!

All is well apart from that. I've got to settle down and write some cover letters for my resume/cv so I can post them off tomorrow!

Sad - hope you are feeling better soon. IBS can be a bugger so I hope its not that!

Batty - I'm going to avoid commenting on batman sniffing your bath bombs.... I don't wish to think about it

Handy - Primeval - waaaaaahhhhh! I want to watch it! The only time Ive seen it being on tv here, it was on a cable channel UKTV which we don't get very often. For financial reasons we switch between packages and at the moment, it's the sports one we have I think that's why I read so much these days, I can't stand the tv!

I write too much

Happy Sinday to you Grumpies!

It's rainy and quite windy here today but it was like that yesterday, too. I'm just happy it's not snowing.

SP: I've got IBS. It's just one of the features of my main illness. Like HM says it's aggravated by stress but I also find that mine gets worse from eating certain foods while it's active (too much dairy, wheat or raw foods). I don't take conventional pharmaceuticals for it though. I take something called Asafetida Complex by Planetary Formulas. Rice is a good food to eat lots of and chamomile and spearmint teas are good for calming the stomach.

Plummie: Sounds like you had quite a Murphy's Law day yesterday. I hope that today is better. Instead of borrowing some jump leads (which means you have to give them back ) maybe you should be some to keep permanently in your car. Those and a gallon bottle of water (mostly for the radiator) were my main emergency car tools when I lived in NY where there is more extremes in temperature.

HM: How's the haircut going? I'm still debating over whether to cut mine especially since I need to wash it now and go through my usual hour of fighting with it.

Lush grump: I miss not having a bath tub, (which isn't Lush's fault ) and I've got a whole box of Lush goodies that I can't use. I save them for when we go somewhere that has a tub but those occasions are getting fewer. Also, they discontinued Tramp and a few other things that I like and some products have been inconsistent with each batch. Has anyone else noticed that? I was using Full of Grace serum but the last batch I bought wasn't as good as the one before. So I'm not as fond of Lush as I once was. On the upside, I'm saving a whole lot of money.

I has a strange experience yesterday when baking some cakes. I put the batter in two pans and put them both on the same shelf in the oven. I took them out at the same time but one cake didn't bake all the way through. The top was starting to burn so I had to take it out. When they cooled down there was about an inch of gooey unbaked batter at the bottom of one pan. Of course Mr. Home said he was happy with the gooey mess and that it tasted good. Sometimes I wonder about him......

Not the Palace losing part.

Yes, there's something good about watching most of a TV series back-to-back, curry last night, curry for Sunday lunch, woohoo! I might have a beer in a minute.

Plummy - you're a good egg.

Speaking of mothers - I'm trying to organise myself to go over to Warsaw before the end of the month, maybe even on Tuesday. Mama's worse than before and is now saying she wants to come back here, so I'll go and get her and, hopefully, take her to see her GP once we're back. It would be good to have a proper diagnosis for her. I've no idea what'll happen next... Probably nothing, but at least she'll be close enough for me to keep an eye on her. All kinds of other problems are popping up, though. She doesn't have a Polish bank account and pays all her bills there by getting cash out of her UK one - I need to find a way of keeping on top of all that once she's back here. There's other stuff too... Blah.

Can you open a Polish bank account? Then transfer money in for bills? Or would they accept payments from your own bank... cor, complicated stuff.

Tuesday That's quick... safe trip if so... best start looking for your passport now, then ((((((BG)))))))

OK, so maybe having her around would drive you barmy, but having her in the UK and seen by a GP might help you both get some insight into what's really at stake.

Sorry to be Captain Obvious.

I've got it!

Yup, I'd have to open a Polish bank account, but probably for her as I don't have an identity over there - no utilities bills, no letters to prove my address etc - so that's an added problem, and then there'd be the arranging of direct debits... and I need to be back by the weekend so it's unlikely I'd manage it. I might be able to get her to show me what needs paying and then give them all a bit of cash in advance, to buy time. I dunno...

KJ - don't worry about it.

Might be worth talking to your own bank and asking if they have a partner bank who could set you up with something?

Clutching at straws here but in this day and age you'd think it would be possible.

Good luck

Bet it will be such a relief to have her back in the UK though, in so many other respects. Hard, but better than miles away and out of contact. Hugs. (((((((BG)))))))))

BG - there's never an easy answer to caring for the elderly, particularly when you're coping alone - my thoughts are with you. xxx

Just finished watching That Sunday Night Show on ITV. Neil and Christine Hamilton made a brief appearance and I'm left wondering just how many times that woman's face has gone under the surgeon's knife. She looks permanently startled.
