Well BT offer a service called BT Broadband voice, and you get a 0551 number for incoming calls.

I contacted, Orange, Virgin, and Vodafone. To ask how much they charge for calls to the 0551 prefix, it is charged at 5p a min at all times from BT landlines.

Orange e-mailed back, and said 25p a min all times on P&G, and 20p on pay monthly, Virgin said standard landline tarrif.

Then 02.... Interesting... i've e-mailed them a few times. Response:

Given that O2 are having that many problems the cost banding for the 0551 numbers, have they confirmed that their network is even setup to route calls to these numbers correctly?

No, but it does, i can call them.

BT called o2, and spent over a hour trying to get a answer, and the nice woman there could not. So e-mailed o2 again.

Could you make a call and stay connected for a minute or so, then call up O2 and have them tell you how much they charged for it, maybe before the monthly bill comes? Or even ask someone with a Pay as you go to try then check their balance?

For all you know it could be free, which happened when I got my first Genie SIM. They counted premium texts as standard ones, and therefore part of my 300 a month allowance. It was great while it lasted, free ringtones and music downloads galore.

Yeah, it does seem pretty stupid not to know how much you charge your customers for things.

Agreed, you will get a reply from Virgin within 24 hours and it will make some sense.

O2's e-mail service is truly awful. Since it moved to India you are more likely to get a reply than you did before but the chance of it making any sense is much less. Last month, O2's e-mail service decided to add MMS to my account to solve some of my WAP and GPRS problems. I was using a 6310i, so no MMS provisioning needed! To be fair, when i complained and pointed out that their UK staff had acknowledged some problems with WAP/GPRS, they did apologise and suggested that they aimed to do better than they had in my case.
