HDR-FOX T2 larger drive?
WillS

Has anyone upgraded the HDD on the HDR-FOX T2
to 1GB (or 2 GB) yet?
Is it just a matter of swapping over drives like on the FoxSat HDR, or do you need special formatting software?

Not yet. It should be straight forward though although you really need a drive designed for AV and not an oridnary PC drive.

The drives used in the new Humax are Seagate Pipeline drives, these run at a lower spin rate and are optimised for long run times in high temperatures (up to 75 degrees) where an ordinary PC drive will struggle.

Internal pictures are posted here

Also note there is a warranty sticker that will require breaking to open the case.

Thanks for thew "little peek" Phil
I upgraded my FoxSat shortly after getting it and was mainly curious if it was easily possible.
eg I've been informed that Panasonics HDD/BluRays have the operating system on the HDD, so it's not possible to upgrade (easily!)

That could be true of the new Humax, although the firmware size is quite a bit less than <32Meg, and the Humax has 32Meg of flash memory. In addition the system boots up before the hard-drive starts spinning, so safe to say I think that the hard-drive is storage only.

So are you going to give it a go

In the words of Manuel - Eventualeee"

It's only a few days old, so I'll give it a few weeks to check it's going to behave itself, then have a think.
I will of course let the forum know when I've done it.

In general Humax products never depend on having a HDD even present, at the moment the platform is internally certified up to 1TB, we will test more when we get the chance. Not saying whatever drive you use will work, you do so at your own risk and it may be considered to void the warranty if the upgrade is done improperly (in our judgement). But in general there is little risk in upgrading.

There seems little point in upgrading the drive as the USB drive is good. You can copy folders full of stuff across overnight, unlike the FoxSat HDR.
Also a problem's turned up inasmuch as both FoxSat and HDFox use the same remote control signals, so the HDFox may be going back.
I'm waiting to hear from Humax re remotes

You can change the remote codes. These instructions are from Barry's FAQ at hummy.org.uk:

If you are using more than one receiver in the same location you can change the remote control frequency so that the remote control commands do not conflict.

1. Switch on your TV set and the Humax product that you wish to change the remote code

2. Make sure that the other Humax product that you do not wish to control is in Standby or powered OFF at the mains

3. Point the remote control towards the remote control sensor of the target receiver.

4. Press and hold the 0 and OK buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds until the PVR button on the remote stays red.

5. A message will appear on the TV screen:

"You can change the remote control mode.
Press a Numeric Key (<1> ~ <6>) to select the mode
Current mode: Mode 1."

6. Press a NUMERIC button (from 1 to 6) to select a different mode.

7. A message confirming the change of Mode will appear on screen:

Remote control mode has been changed to mode X.

Notes:

1. As default the mode on all products will be set to "1"

2. If the receiver does not operate, retry the multi custom code setting, allowing 10 seconds before trying again.

Brilliant You just saved me a trip to JLs!

btw, the other Humax should be powered off.
As soon as I pressed the '0' key it started to power up so I had to switch it off at the mains
I don't know why I never thought to look at hummy.org.uk
Probably for the same reason that Humax never put those instructions in their manual
