how do i find out what "firmware" (i think that's what it's called) it operates on, and what's the best trouble free blank disc you'd suggest for recording on the 880 but for mostly playing back on other machines.

regards to all.

Try here, downloads at the middle of the page, the firmware readme and download covers all models:

I use Imation DVD+RW in my DVD-R70 seem to work OK in other machines.

cheers for the link Fred,

i have managed to find out that my 880 is using "ff-12", not really sure what that means, any thoughts. the machine has only recently come back from Philips after a (free) laser modification.

regards,

Colin.

I would have thought if it's just back from Philips they would have loaded the latest firmware. Checking here seems to confirm that it is:

But if want you could download the firmware update and run it. If it's upto date it will tell you, if not it will be updated.

according to the philips menu my machine is "ff-12 x", is it the latest, i cannot find "x" on the software pages. what does "bad version" mean (?), this appears on the display when i insert an upgrade disc philips sent to me a couple of months ago before the repair.

thanks.

Do not have a definitive answer but as x is later in the alphabet than t, I would assume you have a current or later version of the firmware.

Regarding:

Q.The display shows ‘BAD VERSION'.

A. The system version of your DVD recorder is already
newer than the firmware on the CD-ROM. You
cannot upgrade with this disc.
