Sure is.

First the Ext HDD must be fat32 or EXT3 formatted (fat32 max 4GB file).

Connect the hdd (or pen drive) to either the front or rear usb port

Watch for the USB drive connected message.

Press media opt+ and choose File Manager. Press right to enter the usb drive pane and click OK on the drive icon to open the drive to the root folder (repeat if you want to open a specific folder).

Go left and cursor to recording, the green copy button will now be active (except for ITV1-HD recorded in freesat mode).

BBC-HD can be archived once but is encrypted so will only play on the hdr that recorded it. Both BBC and ITV-HD can be recorded without encryption using non-freesat mode (Enter non-freesat and reboot), but requires manual starting of recording. Recordings made in this way have no restrictions. Because of the file sizes EXT3 format is required for all but the shortest recordings. You can replay archived recordings direct from the external hdd (including encrypted HD ones)

The actual recording is contained in the .ts (transport stream) file. The other two files are support files and are only required by the hdr to replay content.

vlc player will replay both HD and SD .Ts files.

Download this zip (Robin Hood in 17mbps) and extract the 3 files to a usb drive. They should play fine from usb.

Attach the drive, press media and red to change to the usb drive.

If your PC is fast enough you should also be able to play the .ts file directly
