FreeSat has became suck with no real means to become the best public TV system it should be, as the UK beam space is used up.

So how are FreeSat going keep the channels happy and the public.

With no news to keep markets happy and to keep channels paying for epg slots if boxes and TV sales slow up.

Because slow up on channels, and world markets freesat plc has to work harder in giving a growing service for all.

So are we going to get news of ....

A Good list of New SD channels that do not have copy right issues.

A group of IP systems linking to freesat like ITV player, Sky Player, Five on demand, e-mail system.

Two new HD channels like Ch4 HD & Five HD on top of BBC One HD.

A freesat TV Channel for us only.

All these could give a good advert for the Xmas markets to make more buy into this system and keep it going for some time a head, as freeview has more HD and many ip systems that are now linking with it, with paid sports and more.

FreeSat needs a kick NOW.

Freesat is doing absolutely fine.

It provides us with plenty of channels and a nice EPG that we can use to drive a PVR without paying anyone for the privilege.

It's providing a first rate service and, even if nothing changes, will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

You wouldn't get your wishlist from any one platform PTV or FREE.Freesat does not need a kick, but perhaps you do to bring you back into reality

Freesat is doing what it is supposed to do(in fact more) so stop knocking it and accept that it is here to stay!!

Technically, you are right, but only because when they said, "200 channels by Christmas", they didn't specify which Christmas!

No and they didn't anticipate the recession ensuring that a number of channels that would probably have joined the platform decided not to.There is nothing Technical about it.Economic crises are a fact of life and IMHO Freesat are doing very well in the circumstances.

For all those who knock the platform no one is forcing you to use it,unless of course you are unable to receive Freeview, and I imagine that the majority of those are more than happy with Freesat!!

As the others say, Freesat is doing what it was designed to do.

If you don't like what it offers buy a Sky HD box and a FSFS viewing card. Simple.

No PVR or iPlayer functionality with Sky freesat though, so it's swings and roundabouts.

'Freesat' never actually said that, Emma Scott said it - everyone else (at Freesat and otherwise) knew there wasn't any chance of that.

THREE CHANNELS............ luxury
When I were a lad we only had one, we watched the Coronation & whatever else the BBC decided was suitable for us & had to wait for the late 50s for another channel which at he time was considered to be the 'devil's seed' of consumerism with its adverts & giveaway shows.

.

I am ageless;too Pello?, late 40s from S/C.

I recall Childrens TV twice a week, Wed & Sun? I will always remember Renfrew of the Mounties, then Muffin & strings. Then
in 1955 the devils box arrived, ABC at weekends showing different editions of Robin Hood, as the midlands was ahead of Winter Hill they did a kind of catchup, me watching the programme start twice before a late switch-over in the studio to the other region.

What on earth have the markets got to do with anything?

Freesat's not a plc. It doesn't have random shareholders to keep happy. It is totally unrelated to the money markets, being essentially a private joint venture.

Nigel I am not sure if you are referring to my post or not,but if you are I will point out that I am fully aware as to how Freesat is set up.I thought my post made it clear that it was up to the channels if they wished to join the Freesat EPG,but that the current economic situation caused them to wait and see.
I would like to think that you were in fact referring to the poster of the thread

I was indeed referring to the op (whose profile name I always imagine to be related to cross-dressing, for some reason, rather than broadcasting)

Bang on! I too am happy with freesat, but I did expect more with the launch claims.

Nigel,

As long as it was a Freesat member of staff who said it whilst representing the company, then as far as I'm concerned it was 'Freesat' that said it.

What constitutes 'Freesat' saying it in your opinion? How about the press release on the day that Freesat was launched?

http://www.freesat.co.uk/index.php?p...cle&id_press=1

I'm not dissing freesat BTW, I love it. I don't regret buying into it one little bit, however I did expect a little more if I'm being honest.

Emma Scott is Managing Director of Freesat, so would expect from a quote such as this one from June 2008

"Freesat launched at the beginning of May with over 80 digital services – TV, radio and interactive – and by the end of this year we should be heading for up to 200 channels"
http://www.joinfreesat.co.uk/index.p...-by-emma-scott

that we would have 200 or so channels by now.

We currently have 156 (118 TV / 38 Radio).

There is however over 100 additional FTA channels - maybe she was hoping that some of these would have been added to the Freesat EPG.

(What I don't understand, is that BBC regional channels have a Freesat EPG slot, yet the ITV regional channels don't - and have to be tuned in in non-Freesat mode)

I don't know why people make such a fuss about the 200 channel thing.

It's the number of channels of quality that counts.

They could have added 20 religious channels and 24 shopping channels.

Somebody who knew what they were on about, and not someone who seemed determined to prevent Freeesat ever launching

Whilst I agree I'd rather have a low signal to noise ratio, the more channels that we have on the platform will inevitably draw in more customers, which will in turn draw in the type of channels that many of us would like to see on the platform (I'm thinking of Virgin 1, The FTV HD channels, Dave etc).

Just what I was about to say. There are plenty of channels already, it's what's on them that counts.
