I've got a new LG 32LD550 TV. On any of my other set ups if I change the input source, e.g. switch on a dvd player then the TV will automatically switch to that input source.

If I turn on the DVD player connected to the new LG, nothing happens. For instance if I'm watching Sky, the picture remains on Sky.

I can manually select the input sources but would prefer it to operate automatically.

I've checked the manual and the connections to the TV but can't find anything that helps.

Sky HD is connected via HDMI and the DVD is connected via Scart. Also have a Wii connected to the AV inputs.

Well HDMI doesn't auto-switch, and neither does AV - the only one that should is the DVD player, presumably it's SCART at both ends?, an AV to SCART lead won't auto-switch either.

As Nigel says HDMI won't autoswitch to whatever device is turned on - have you got the DVD Player running through AV1 as that should autoswitch when turned on if my LG Plasma & Humax PVR are anything to go by.

Thanks for the help so far guys. Yep the DVD player is connected via the same Scart lead I had with the previously telly (scart both ends).

I'm pretty sure my LG auto switches to HDMI when I fire up the Blu-Ray player. Mind you it is going via my AV receiver so not sure if that is relevant or if it simply autodetects data on HDMI.

Anyway. One quirk I have noticed. If you manually select an input source it sticks to that input until you either change it manually again or go into standby and back out again. If it is auto-switching it will happily flick between inputs all day as you turn them on and off.

But if you switch to an input manually that cancels auto-switching. The TV will remain set to whatever source you've selected regardless of what other input devices you turn on and off. I think also it doesn't switch back to TV viewing mode either if you touch the channel up-down control. I know if it is auto-switching and you hit the Channel up or down control it switches to it's tuner. Not sure it does this after manually switching to an input.

I have an LG TV and like Nigel says, it will only autoswitch to the DVD player (AV). It doesnt do it with HDMI.

I have a Panasonic tv with a V+ into HDMI1 , a Bluray player into HDMI2 and a PS3 into HDMI3.

They all auto switch and return to tuner when powered down.

HDMI will definitely auto switch if the device incorporates HDMI Control .
Sky+ and V+ do not have this feature but Panasonic tv's will switch to input 1 whenever an HDMI signal is input.

I did find that the Sky+HD box would take over the tv whenever it was switched on.
So while it did auto switch when taken from standby (input 1 only) it would not release the tv back to the tuner when switched back to standby.

Not sure why this is but the same problem does not occur with the V+
