Optical digital lead converter
My in-laws have a Virgin HD box & an old DVD home cinema system that they used to use to get surround sound on with their old digibox.
The Virgin HD box allows surround sound through optical digital out but their system only has slots for the red & white cables to go into for surround sound. Is there some sort of converter they can get so they can get surround sound with their current equipment? Thanks |

This is the type of convertor you're after.

If the TV has analogue audio out then connect that to the surround system and save the £40.

Bear in mind that the stereo output of these converters will only give you Dolby Prologic decoding at best for surround sound.
If you want proper Dolby Digital 5.1 decoding, you're going to need a new amp. |

As it's only stereo, you'd be better off connecting this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/RCA-SCART-Ad...3281098&sr=1-4 to your Virgin Box and getting a 2 RCA to 2 RCA lead to go from the adapter to the input on the amp: http://www.amazon.co.uk/RCA-Phono-Pl...3281157&sr=1-5 |

The OP may not need to buy anything at all. The TV should have an audio output. This can be used to connect to the surround system. If the audio lead that was used to connect the old digi box to the surround system is long enough to connect the TV to the surround system then it's job done.
If not, then it's either a longer RCA lead or, as John suggested, a Scart to RCA adapter. |
