An amazing weight with its strong steel sub-frame
But a flash in the pan going to room 101?

Might as well also mention the Archos 70 starting at 300 grams looks a portable wonder with an ok 10 hour battery life.

Again it is a real computer with Android 2.2 and all the usual connections such as SD and HDMI.

I'm guessing as usual but as the whole world always passes them by they must gone for broke in attention seeking.
All the same chips inside so not that hard to do.

I like Archos. And I like Android. But which is better? There's only one way to find out...

Oh, wait...

Until Android most were a bit on the crap side.
Wasn't the web browser a £20 add-on?
And then extra for the mp4 codec?

Bad marketing for decent designs.

Yeah I think the PMP part of the Archos devices was always fairly decent, what with their large capacities and USB Host modes - the move to include a web browser with a not so good onscreen keyboard and then charge for the privilege (I'd forgotten about the codecs!) was a bit off.

as well as all the extra charges, what really peed me off was how difficult if not impossible it was to replace the battery after it died

So Android may be the making of them? No extra bucks for a codec to play movies! If that 101 device is the same price as a new iPod I'd seriously look at it.

Don't rush to buy.
The next few weeks shall see lots of interesting releases.

Its the only big screen one o far that exists with a decent weight.

300 grams for the 7" one is also ultra competitive.
Is it now to be weight versus faster heavier Tegra 2 alternatives?

I must say, after seeing some video of the Samsung Galaxy Tab in action, I'm fairly impressed too - this from a hardened iPad user.

But, I'm also an Android user (1.6, on me phone), so I can appreciate the pros and cons of both platforms.

According to this there will be no access to the Android Market, I've suddenly lost interest.

Didn't the archos 5 have no access to the market place until some clever bod worked out how to do it? I'm sure there will be access to the market very soon after launch, and i'm sure I've read some where that none of the android tablets will have access to android market place to begin with.

I think webOS in tablet form is really going to spank iOS, I'm hoping some appear soon.

Indeed.

It is a Google restriction that the market place is currently only for phone enabled devices.
Maybe this will be lifted once the platform is dominant?

If manual software install access is available then mobile device spoofing is easy.
And would google turn a blind eye?

Perhaps Google are protecting their interests for when they release their ChromeOS offerings?

I keep forgetting that.
And I can't quite work out if it Is on a back burner while Android makes it.

They have now initially released the bigger 16GB 101 at £299.
To catch the small extra profit considering 8GB version is not expansion crippled?

On the face of it, this is the most interesting tablet release by far.
I'm not sure if they are testing the water with one site only having 4 units for home delivery on the 3rd.
