Humax HDR Fox T2 inked to BT hub

Have been impressed with the Fox T2 since installing it on Sunday. Picture quality truly excellent for the three HD channels and pretty good on SD with 720p setting selected. The EPG is stunning and recordings have been faultless. The ability to download wmv files onto a USB stick from my PC and then play them on the Fox T2 is a real plus point.

Now ... how to link the box to my BT homehub successfully. I have tried connecting the box to my hub with an ethernet cable. The box recognises that the ethernet cable is inserted I presume as "Network" features as an option when I select "Media". When I select "Network" the work "Connecting" appears in a mid-screen banner. After about 30 seconds, the message "No server was found" is shown.

I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to linking up to a PC and would be grateful for any tips - be gentle with me!

Thanks!

If the Humax is DLNA compliant you would need a server installed on your pc. Windows media player 11 can act as a limited DLNA server for photos and mp3. You will need to turn the "media sharing" on within the player.

Windows 7 and Vista with Windows Media Player can share video media with the Humax T2 products.

I've made some progress since my last post which some might find useful.

Having initially had no luck connecting my PC to the Humax box with the ethernet cable I phone Humax and received some helpful advice from Colin.

I run Windows XP and as stated by other contributors, this version is compatible with networking. It had been suggested that Windows 7 and Vista only would work. So, good news here.

I was advised to ensure that "Media Sharing" is enabled in Windows Media Player, of which I have the latest version. This simply means clicking on "Library" at the top of the screen, going into "Media Sharing" from the options that appear and clicking to share media. Devices should be detected and then press "Apply" to get going.

It hasn't been 100% reliable, but when it has worked, it's been a major plus to be able to stream downloaded videos and music from Windows Media Player onto my plasma via my Hummy.

Music has been rather less reliable that video with the "No server found" message sometimes appearing.

Videos stored in the correct folder on my C drive for Windows Player have played with good picture quality, though there has been no facility to fast or jump forward.

On occasions, I have had to reset the rooter and box to get the server recognised. This has done the trick on most occasions.

I'd love to be able to stream internet from my PC to the screen, but believe this is not possible. I'd like to be proved wrong, though!

Would be very keen to hear from others' experiences.
