Samsung Galaxy tab
Having read about Apple redesigned ipod devices, my initial urge to upgrade my 1st gen Ipod Touch to the 4th gen has quickly disappeared as I really dont want another 3.5 inch screen for playing games. This 7 inch tablet is just the right size, that said I probably dont need it as I love my netbook. No price yet but if its in the sub £300 range I'll be getting it to replace my ipod touch.

Android 2.2 running TouchWiz 3.0
7-inch TFT LCD with 1024 x 600 resolution (WSVGA)
Weighs 380 grams
1GHz Cortex A8 processor
16GB or 32GB internal storage
microSD expansion for up to 32GB additional storage
Front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera and rear 3 megapixel camera with flash
4,000mAh battery
3G data / voice (there's a speakerphone and Bluetooth for phone calls, but no earpiece)
5GHz dual-band 802.11n WiFi
Standard back color is white, carriers might offer different colors
Full HD video playback
There's a 30-pin dock connector on the bottom that allows for HDMI, USB, and docking accessories (a car dock at least is planned)
http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/02/s...y-tab-preview/ |

I'm sure I've seen a price of £299 some where?
Edit Sorry it was the new Archos 101 tablet I'd seen for £299. |

Wll if it's true they aren't going to sell any for £680.
Anyway, still early days, another six months from now we'll have a nice choice to choose from. |

I've read that the £680 figure is because they see it as a premium device for the mobile companies to offer on contract.

This is cheaper and could be more of an Ipad beater.

£680? that's insane. I'm expecting Android tablets to be at least as good as the Ipad and show it up for being overpriced. £680 though kinda makes the Ipad look like a bargain. Oh well the Toshiba Folio looks good though.

Its showing out of stock but is listed on the web at £650 inc VAT.
Quite pointless at this price even if it is double speed Tegra 2. Heck I'd be saying even the iBrick can seem better choice but for the fact that they are different size and weights. The Archos range got mentioned on Radio 5 last night and for some weird reason they picked on the Archos 28 as being the headline device. For me I'm split between the £229 7" Archos 70 and the £269 10" Archos 101. If the Toshiba Folio is £329 contract free then it would look quite worthwhile. But listed on Vodaphone to me means contract only at that price and only lower when disastrous sales certainly happen. |

I'm thinking of the Archos 70 with the 250gb storage instead of the ipad, looks really good and at almost half the price of the ipad I was thinking of getting. Will see what it's like first before I make up my mind though. Any idea when they will be in the shops?

Here's another tablet that might be competition for the Ipad.

Good Afternoon everyone,
I'm afraid I don't have the prices to give you for the Samsung Galaxy Pad just yet but you can register for details here and you will be notified as soon as pricing has been announced. All the best, Kay Web Relations Team Vodafone UK |

anyone bought one yet then, have seen mixed reviews
got my hands on one in Tesco the other day, and then the O2 store, nice piece of kit, but limited in its functionality in-store because of either not installing connectivity, or not installing various apps that users woud want to sample... It does look good though and feel good in the hand |

Does look good indeed but still a bit pricey! Personally waiting for the BB PlayBook that one looks interesting.

Am interested in a tablet, but dont like the idea of not being able to view flash... I'm not anti-apple in any way, as I own an iphone, just feel that whilst the ipad is a nice piece of kit, there still feels like there is more that could be done with it |

The Creative Zioo combines sane prices with some high tech.
The 10" fails on the weight aspect while the hi-fi 7" at £200 looks more than useful. The Samsung Galaxy Tab is far more barmy than the iPad and its captive audience. |

The Galaxy Tab is nothing more than a giant Galaxy S Smartphone.
Same CPU, OS, Apps etc. Sim free price of £500 =/ Wait for Android 3.0 before even thinking about buying an Android tablet. |

I have an Ipad. The smaller screen would put me off. I have read on reviews that it is not as good as an Ipad as a tablet but it is cumbersome and too wieldy as a phone.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is a bit expensive, but that said it does come with some nice custom apps that other tablets won't have which make good use of the larger screen size.
The email client for example is very good, offering an Outlook type view with list of emails on the left, and email preview pane on the right. The keyboard docking station you can buy for it is also pretty useful for home use - making writing emails and documents much easier. Also Samsung have promised that the Galaxy Tab will get an update to Android 3.0, so no need to wait for that really. I've yet to find an application that doesn't suitably scale to the larger screen size. With regards to the size it seems just right to me. Any bigger and you wouldn't be able to hold it in one hand. You iPad owners must have big hands!!! |

Another one that popped up is the Commtiva N700.
With its Qualcomm MSM7227 SOC it's very much a San Fancisco phone but with a bigger screen and maybe better camera. For sale for as little as £300. It is a slower Archos 70 /Creative ZiiO but it does have both 3G and GPS. |

7" Toshiba for £329.00 - WIFI only though and as you'll see from the comments in that link it has its problems. I gave in and ordered an iPad, for the battery life as much as everything. The Galaxy Tab is a crazy price. £489.00 unlocked from Carphone Warehouse with no contract http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/lap...ung-galaxy-tab |

Depends what you want from these things.
Because the Galaxy S outsells the iPhone in Asia and because the iPad is much a Samsung its in their interests to keep prices up. The Creative and Archos devices do appear to outclass the iPad at around £250. |

i spent around 10 minutes playing with the Tab at my local Currys.
Great responsive screen and the device feels solid. It is ideal for internet and email usage, but £500 for internet/email is way to much. At £300-350 I would of snapped this up. |
