Using the Humax Foxsat PVR and need a bit of help. We have 2 cables coming from the dish to the unit.
If i record 1 program i seem to lose some of the other channels, for instance, if i record BBC 1 then when i press the channel up button it goes to itv1 and then BBC HD, ie i have lost BBC 2, CH4, CH5 etc, last night i was watching CH4, then i started recording ITV 1, then couldn't get CH4 back again, if i record 2 programmes at the same time then i lose most channels but i imagine that is quite normal as only 2 tuners. Any ideas how to rectify this?????

First thing I would do is double check all the connections. And the cables between Humax and dish. From how I understand the Humax to work that sounds a bit like how it behaves when it only has a single feed from the LNB.

So make sure the two feeds are correctly connected on the back of the Humax and at the LNB. And while doing that make sure the F-Type plugs are properly terminated. Then trace the cables as best you can and look out for damage.

Just be aware that some damage can be quite subtle, eg if you bend the cable too tightly it can fracture the inner conductor but look almost undamaged from the outside. If you are used to such things you can often feel the break by the way the cable bends.

Anyway that will do for a start

Check the two cables are on the two outer connections, if not power off correct the connections and do a factory reset. Watch for the two cables recognised message. If correct choose menu/system/diagnostics and check signal strength and quality for both tuners. If the second tuner has no signal power off and unscrew the f connector, it's very easy to bend the centre core so it does not go down the hole in the f socket. Again try a reset and watch for two cables recognised.

When you have two working tuners try

Start an instant recording on 108 (BBC-HD), start a second on 951 (BBC1-CI). Now try selecting a selection of 3rd channels, you should be able to view and live pause any other channel if the hdr is working properly.

If you fitted the second cable after instalation a factory reset is required to reset the firmware to dual cable working. (Make a note of your recording schedule)

Thanks for the replies, i have been in diagnostics and found both tuners showing 90% strength and 100% quality. We had a single LNB before so had a local Aerial man fit a quad LNB, new dish and new cables to the unit, still none wiser. I have also set 2 programmes to record, went to a 3rd channel, pressed pause and it did pause the program. Still losing access to other channels while recording programs

One thing i just done is set CH4 to start recording at 12:00 clock, i was watching ITV 1 at 12:00 clock when i got a clash of interest notification come on the screen, i chose to do nothing and it automatically changed my channel to CH4, when i tried to go to ITV1 it was not there

Setting the recordings won't cause the problem only actually recording. The installer simply failed to reset the hdr after installing the second connection. If you do a factory reset all should be fine.

Did you do a factory reset after you got the new LNB? The Humax will need to "detect" that it now has two independant feeds.

We had an old sky dish with 1 LNB going to an old Humax box, i bought a new 300 gb Humax Foxsat box last week and got an erial man to fit new cables, new dish and connect to the new box. I get good strength and good quality on both tuners, the issue i have is losing other channels whilst recording goes on, if recording 2 channels then just about lose all other channels

Just to clarify. Did you ever have the new Humax on the old LNB with only a single connection or has it only ever been on the new LNB with dual connections?

And if it had been on just a single connection did you do a reset after hooking up the second LNB feed?

No, never attached to old LNB and never a single connection only

OK so that is one potential cause eliminated possibly.

One thing to try. Power off the Humax and disconnect LNB 2 In. Power it back on and do a reset. If it was only seeing one feed then very little should change. If it does not receive anything then either LNB 1 IN on the Humax is dodgy or the feed to it is. If it works then you now know LNB 1 IN works as does the cabling and LNB.

So now power off and swap the cables over but still only using LNB 1 IN for now. Then power back up and see if you can receive anything. If you can then that proves the cabling and the second LNB are working. If not and the previous cable did work then you have a dodgy feed from LNB 2, cable or the LNB itself.

That test at least ought to prove whether both feeds are working correctly or not. If they are then connect them both back up and reset the Humax again to ensure it detects them both. If it still doesn't work properly then it might be a iffy LNB 2 IN on the Humax.

You only have two tuners so if you record two you will lose most other channels. The fact that you can actually watch other channels at all is unique to the hdr.

The rules are

1 Recording two from the same transponder, thewn you can watch and time shift any other channel

2 Recording two from different transponders. You can view but not time shift any channel sharing a transponder as either recording.

To record a program and watch another is not unique to the Humax, many other models can do this, if i record 2 channels then there is hardly any left to watch. I can live with recording 1 channel while watching another but as i have said, if i record 1 channel i start to lose others, if i can't record CH4 and watch CH3 with this machine then what is the point

This is what is happening me at the moment but I only have one feed until my quad LNB comes on Monday.

If you have two inputs, but originally were using just one, or maybe bought your HDR second hand from someone who was using just one, then why not perform a factory reset. This should recognise the second input and your problem is solved?

Getiing fed up of saying this. DO A FACTORY RESET. The loss of 2nd channels while recording one is simply because the hdr thinks your second tuner feed comes from the same lnb connection as tuner 1

Ypor post said if recording TWO you lose practically all other channels. As I tried to explain recording two on anything but a hdr will lose all other viewing possibilities.

Ok, have done a factory reset and both tuners recognised, now when recording 1 channel it is ok to watch any other channel, if recording 2 channels then very limited amount of channels available.

Regarding post #3 that you sent, i started recording BBC HD followed by CH 951 and all other channels were accessable, if i try BBC HD and CH 101 then some channels are not accessable, why is this, is it down to the transponder??

This is normal, you will only be able to watch channels which share the same frequencies as those been recorded.

Yes it is. Download the .htm file and open it in a browser as I explained. I don't know which BBC1 region you have at 101 but if you tune to it and press opt+ the hdr will tell you which BBC Region you have and which transponder it's on.

Looking at the browser find the transponder you are using for channel 101. Only channels sharing the transponder with 101 or 108 will be available. On the BBC-HD transponder there are only two other BBC-channels BBC1-CI and BBC1-E so unless you happen to have one of these at 101 recording 101 and 108 will produce 3rd channel viewing restrictions.

For instance if you want to record Channel 5 and BBC1 then recording 950 or 957 will give you full 3rd channel viewing as these BBC1 regions share a transponder with channel 5. If you have a PC with Excel there's a fully automated version of what combinations you need to view specific 3rd channels here
