Beyond the Foxsat?
I currently own a Humax 9200, and I'm looking to switch to Freesat as I can't get regional TV for my area, as a large hill blocks the local transmitter.
Is there a replacement for the Foxsat coming up soon at all? Or am I best to get one now? Sorry if this has been asked for before, but I couldn't find it anywhere on the forums, or over at Hummy.org.uk |

A foxsat-hdr2 is reportedly in the pipeline sometime in 2011.

Although I haven't been following the current prices for a while, with the price of the Foxsat PVR now down to just £209 (only £10 more than Humax's own 'Grade A' manager's specials) at several retailers maybe the new model may be coming out even sooner than that ?

I'm pretty sure I read on here somewhere that Humax confirmed that the new one would be next year.
Of course the new one may not be any better than the one we have now |

Thanks for that - do I bite the bullet and buy now or wait until next year, suffering ropey terrestrial reception?

Of course if a new model is launched soon it may not actually work properly until us consumers have bought a few thousand and reported back all the bugs

I guess it's a question of how desperate you are. I was previously on a very unreliable analogue cable system with just the basic terrestrial channels. It was quite common to lose one or other channel for 24 hours at a time. The low point was losing Channel 5 for about 3 days around the start of The Mentalist season 1. That prompted me to get off my arse and do something about getting a better system. So I just went for it. I knew if I waited a bit longer I might get a slightly better deal but what the hell. No regrets. If you can live with your "ropey terrestrial reception" then wait (I would factor in at least 6 months). If you can't then go for the current model. |

I think you're right, there does tend to be an unofficial beta test period when PVRs are launched, so getting a current Foxsat asap is a good option rather than hold out, just getting annoyed with my current Freeview feed.
The only thing to consider then is sorting out the installation - I have old sky dish in place, would this work or would the installers replace it and charge extra. Also, can anyone recommend dish installers? So far I'm thinking of buying the Foxsat from Amazon and getting the installation through Argos. |
