How come you cannot buy any decent pizzas now from supermarkets??? For dinner tonight we have just had the most awfull pizza!! It was just a dry dough base with virtually non-existant ingredients on top!! The thing is, it was from Waitroses, no less, and it just was not worth the price!!! You just cannot buy pizza now loaded with toppings and with all the stringy tasty mozzerella on top!!!

Have other people experienced this????

But, we reckon that the pizza makers just put chedder now on pizzas instead of the more costly and specialized mozzerella cheese on as a cost cutting measure as chedder is much cheaper!!!!

Mozzerella is cheaper than cheddar over here.

Then why dont they use that instead??? My mother laments that you cannot buy pizzas now with all the stringy mouthwatering cheese that stretches as you are trying to take a slice!!!!

Where do you shop for pizza? I was in King Soopers in Colorado last month and their pizza cheese was very stringy.

Well, right now, I am in the UK, so really, theres nowhere decent where you can buy pizza here!! There is a Dominoes Pizza here, but its just a bit too far away for us to order pizza in and even to go and collect it cos by the time we got it home it would be verging on being lukewarm. Also, my parents, are really not into ordering pizza on the phone or online!! Its just not what they are used to doing!!!!

Oh, how I miss Godfathers!!!!!! I would virtuially KILL to get a Godfathers Super Supreme Combo in right now!!!!!

All the supermarkets seem to use the prebaked bases that are like cardboard.

More likely to be cheese analoge.

I don't see how. I would take well over and hour to make and prepare dough and that's without making a tomato sauce.

I do agree that it can work out cheaper over time as you can buy bags of flour, tins of yeast and blocks of pizza mozzarella that you can freeze.

That's not much good though if you fancy a pizza while shopping or on your way home.

The large Chicago Town Takeaway pizza, pepperoni version with the cheese filled edges is very good. I get them in for my son and his mates when they come for band practice. It costs about £3.50 but cuts into 8 decent slices. Also like Asda's freshly made ones from the counter.

Asda counter ones are the only ones that are any good from a supermarket.

Making your own though, especially with a breadmaker is a right doddle and superior by far to anything in the supermarket/takeaway or "pizza chain restaurant".

Yeah, but it all depends on what you want as toppings!! If u want just normal everyday items as toppings then its cheap but if you want things like Italian spicey sausage, Pepperoni, ham, chicken or other specialized ingredients, plus the mozzerella cheese, then you have to buy all that to start with and some ingredients can be a bit pricey!!!

Morrison's do an excellent Stuffed crust pizza for around £4. It's the only supermarket one I really like and I think it's as better than Pizza huts, although I still prefer Dominos.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Pizza is easy to make but a big hassle to make from scratch.

Nope.

We have loads of ingredients including chorizo (spicy sausage), chicken bacon etc. But its still cheaper and actually real ingredients that aren't "plastic", like all supermarket pizzas taste.

I cant believe people actually compare pizza to pizza hut and dominoes as it being good . That would be bad for me if they were like those. They are some of the worst most plastic pizzas around! Try a home made one, and you'll never do that again.

Nowt wrong with dominos easily as good as homemade imo, just too expensive.

You can't beat asda stonebaked pizza, only a couple of quid.

I'd never shop at waitrose. Never found their food to be great especially for the prices they charge.

There used to be some frozen pizzas that 'rose' in the oven which were quite nice, but they don't seem to be around any more. Unfortunately most pizzas are awful now with really cardboardy bases.

Home made is great, but too much much of a hassle for me.

I use either pasata+basil+garlic, or a coriander pesto (not authentic, but very tasty twist you cant buy).

Don't you find passata too runny for the sauce? The pesto sounds nice though do you make your own?

I find that the bloody sauce is by far the hardest thing to get right. For me it makes or breaks the pizza. I like a cooked sauce, slighty sweet and spicy. I have an easy recipe but it's never consistent and I suppose it's down to the variation in the quality of Tomatoes and my lack of skill lol

I agree. I just cannot get bought pizza of any kind to pass my lips : puke smiley :
I've been mking homemade pizzas since I was 16 ( and I'm 48 now ) They have evolved dramatically over the years though. Make my pomodori with a tin of tomatoes add a small tin of concentrate toms, add oregano, basil, snuff of sugar. The base I spread with homemade tapenade from green olives, anchovies, garlic, chillie pepper, olive oil.
And top with lots of other stuff that I have lying about (pizza related)

ETA : I just open the tin of tomatoes, add the concentrated tomato and blend with handblender - not cooked or heated - add the sugar, herbs & forgot to mention a little salt.

I just use tomato puree open the tin and spread it on. I don't like it to be runny.

I dont use too much pasata, that it gets too runny.
