I only buy pizza from supermarkets (Asda or Morrisons), but don't buy their own brand. My fav is Chicago Town's Edge To Edge range, which is filled....from edge to edge. Bloody gorgeous!

I really love them but Asda stopped selling them and I can't find them anymore they really were good pizzas after a long day.

The Dr Oetker (sp?) ones aren't bad. I usually get the Mozarella one and add my own topping . They have a nice thin base which I prefer.

I like the pizza express range in the supermarkets - as close as you can get to resteraunt Pizza heated up at home.

The rest of the pizzas on offer at supermarket are pretty poor - your better off eating cheese on toast.

Except for the really small frozen ones that cost next to nothing.

OP have you tried buying the Pizza Express pizzas you can buy chilled from Sains to cook at home?

They're not quite as good as the real thing - but still ok.

It would take me an hour to get to the shops and back.

It takes hardly any time in a bread oven on a dough maker setting.

What if you are already in the supermarket and decide that you fancy a pizza? How do you get the breadmaker to put the ingredients into itself and start to prepare dough and how do you get the hob to make the tomato sauce?

I though the point of the thread was that the OP was out shopping and decided to buy a pizza for tea but was dissapointed with the result. The question was why can't the supermarkets do better?

Chicago Town 'takeaway' pizzas are lovely and I agree with a few people who have suggested Asda's where you make your own. They tend to put plenty of toppings on (or at least they do if you know the girl behind the counter ) I also love the Pizza Express pizzas.

Its nothing like my homemade pizza. I wouldn't fancy eating yours if its like dominos.

Homemade does take longer to make as in chuck ingredients in bread maker, but its doesn't take that long after that.

The expense issue is just bull though, its no more expensive homemade considering the quality of the ingredients!

Yeah well I don't fancy yours either

As for expense I was talking about the price of Dominos Pizza.

another in favour of Asda pizza's here, especially the thin and crispy ones and I like the way they make them up for you at the counter.

Point of a pizza for me is a spontaneous purchase and speed without needing all those ingredients in your store cupboards at home.

I bought a "pepperoni" chibatta style pizza from Morrisons today which had a grand total of 4 slices of pepperoni.

But you need to go to the shops to buy the ingredients for the pizzas.

I've recently started making my own pizzas and I love it! I have just been buying the topping sauce from asda tho! It's cheap enough to make them and they are so much nicer than supermarket ones

I'm not sure it is. By the time you've bought the toppings (especially meat ones), it can work out very expensive. Unless you just have a margarita.

Asdas stone baked meat feast thin crusts are good I have found.
