Seeing as Android is overtaking the iwhatsit in new apps and functionality , it's getting pretty hard to find cool apps in the marketplace without being spun by a magazine or website. What are you three favourite apps youve used so far?

Mine:

MyPlayer (BBC Iplayer - much preferred the old indy one but its still great)
Pocket Newsstand (The print magazine app - good to keep in touch with the relaxed way of reading things)
Layar (never found it useful but it epitomises AR)

Having said that the most useful apps are the widgets that allow you to see your info on the home screen without having to log in to other accounts all the time. such as Stocks widget and Analytics Widget.

Love to hear whos got apps that are just really useful?

Navigon is excellent and one app that I wouldn't want to be without. I tried NDrive and CoPilot, but Navigon beat both of them. It's the best GPS software I've found so far and with the Desire's excellent GPS hardware and a £10 cradle from eBay it's spot on

Angry Birds is a lot of fun, not useful, but is fun

To be honest, it depends what you're looking for. I have stuff on my Desire that others I know don't and they have stuff that I don't. That's the best thing about a smartphone, you can set it up to suit you.

There's a free beta version out at the moment, limited to just 15 levels. Runs flawlessly on my HTC Desire but many people have reported problems so I don't know how long it will be before the full version is available.

Don't have many apps at the moment. I have more widgets than actual apps but I use Endomondo Sports Tracker often to track my fitness progress.

I'm so new to all of this. I upgraded to a HTC Wildfire yesterday. I'm liking it so far... still getting used to it though (was attempting for about an hour this morning to write a long facebook message to my friend in NZ. I kept hitting Decline ). Can anyone here who's a bit more clued up than I am tell me if I've made a good choice? I need some more Apps, hence why I came in this thread, but I've got lots of time for that!

How much space do apps take up roughly? I know they probably range greatly, but what's a very very rough estimate? I haven't got a clue.

Pro Paint, adds some decent options to the camera.
ChrometoPhone, open pages on your phone from your PC desktop.
Seesmic, (Twitter) way better than the default crap HTC put on there.
Barcode Scanner, er.....that'll scan barcodes then.
Mplayer, iPlayer thingy.
Speedtest, find out if your HSPDA is a bit shite.

All free.

I should have mentioned that this requires you have a slingbox connected to the sky box and broadband
and is quite pricey for an app

SlideIt is well worth checking out. It's similar to Swype, but quicker and more accurate in my view. Doesn't quite look as nice, but does a better job.

Krazy Kart Racing is lots of fun. It's pretty much a rip off of Mario Kart, but it works very well.

Google Maps offers free GPS navigation and is useful for quickly finding addresses. Not quite as good as Navigon for GPS, but for free it's great.

Picsay Pro is good for a laugh when taking photos that you want to edit and has some good features for an app.

psx4droid runs playstation 1 games on the Desire. I've seen it running on my mate's phone but not installed it myself. Was doing a good job running full PS1 games though.

Sketcher is a nice little app for creative sketching.

Websharing is excellent. Connect your phone's WiFi and then browse to the phone's IP address from your laptop. You then get a drag and drop file manager on your laptop without using the cable, it's all over WiFi. Very useful.

WiFi Analyzer is very useful for checking out your WiFi setup or finding free hotspots. Nice signal meter too.

Shazam was good for finding what tune is playing, however the last update made it pants

Raging Thunder 2 is a great race car game and very impressive for a phone.

great list of apps people, keep 'em coming. This thread has to be about USEFUL apps though, ones which actually get some useage in the real world... there are so many out there that seem great but when are they ever going to get put into action.?

Cheers

ps let me know what you think of mine:

A few suggestions from me. All these apps work on the HTC Wildfire.

Sky+ - Useful for remote recording if you have Sky+ but even if you don't, it's still a very useful portable Sky Guide.

Twitter - The official Twitter app is a must download if you a regular Tweeter. Miles better than the built in 'Peep' and 'Friend Stream' apps.

Guardian Anywhere - The entire Guardian website on your phone, in a nifty little app! Can be set to update the content over night as well.

A Online Radio - Great little app for listening to thousands and thousands of online webstreams and Shoutcast radio stations. I use it for listening to Rapture Radio on the move.

GBCoid - Rather good Gameboy emulator for your phone. You can get other emulators through the marketplace as well such as Snes, Megadrive or even a Playstation one. You'll need to have the original game roms on your SD Card for the emulators to be any good though.

Jewels - Good, free Bejeweled clone.

The Inbetweeners Sound Board - A must have for any fan of the TV Show.

Documents To Go - Enables you to view and edit Word, Excel and PDF documents on your phone. (It costs £10 but is well worth it.)

Mole Miner - excellent Boulder Dash / Repton style game

3G Watchdog is brilliant, very detailed in showing you how you use the 3G internet and when you go over the limit.

BT FON: automatic sign in to openzone/fon hotspots when away from my BT network

Timeriffic: Invaluable app for battery saving and general peace and quiet. It switches functionality on and off to a schedule, so mutes the ringer overnight, turns the volume down when I'm in work, turns blutooth on as I leave the office, wifi off whilst I'm sleeping etc
