Did you not get slammed with the data prices whilst using Google Nav in France?

I've yet to get my bill....

However I did take out a 2MB/day bundle with Orange and set 3G Watchdog to drop the data service at the 2MB limit. This did mean that had a missed a turning I wouldn't be able to calculate a reroute however that didn't prove necessary. Also, if you had access to a WiFi hotspot at the point of departure Google Maps could create the route without eating into your precious mobile MB's.

Does that deal include roaming? Because if not you could find yourself paying enough to actually buy a dedicated GPS device in roaming data charges - they aren't cheap when abroad.

And the maps in Google Maps routing are downloaded as you travel, not at the start. I know this because I used it to travel to the Highlands in Scotland. Set the route when at home with full coverage and off I set. When I got to some remote parts without mobile signal I couldn't see a map because it stopped downloading it. This was why I then bought Navigon GPS for Android because the maps are all on my SD card so it works all over.

You may be in for a surprise with your bill

I have blown a few minds with Google Sky Map, point the phone at a star at night and it names it on-screen, have had two people this week alone asking me if the application is available on Iphone.

The European 'travel data daily' roaming bundle is specifically aimed for those requiring data services during short journeys abroad.

There is also a cap of 16MB per month (~£45 max) to comply with the EU data limit brought in to cap excessive charges levied on tourists.

For my final journey from our campsite to Cherbourg I used the campsite WiFi to cache the maps and routing required for the journey. According to web reviews unless you wander off course Google maps does not require any further data to navigate you from A to B. This was proven by switching the phone to 'flight mode' in one review. Of course traffic information, re-routing etc will require additional data.

Don't use many apps, but the ones I do use daily are:

Facebook - official version
Twitter - official version
Sleep bot - I used it to keep track of how little sleep I get these days

There are a few I want to buy but my Google shopping account it locked and they want me to scan some id to unlock it. I don't have a scanner so Google aren't going to get my money it seems

As for Angry Birds, I can't see it anywhere. Running version 2.1 on a Hero.

I'm recently new to the world of Android still I'm still exploring it's Appverse.

One App I paid for on Blackberry is PodTrapper, a superb podcast receiver, organizer and player. It's still in beta on Android, so still free.

My Tracks (http://mytracks.appspot.com/) is brilliant. I spend ages looking for a good GPS tracking app on the BB but never found one but within a few days My Tracks does everything I want.

I didn't think the Samsung Wave was an Android phone. It's Bada OS isn't it?

Samsung Galaxy S is Android.

Are there any apps (games) that allow you to play against another Android / Google user? We now have four Desires in the house and it would be fun on occasion....

Yes, quite a few.

Have a look at the Gameloft games, they tend to support it as do many others.

Most multiplayer games multiplay over WiFi, but you can use Bluetooth for some. And if you can't use Bluetooth, have a play with one of your Desires as a WiFi hotspot and see what happens
