Ups you won't like my post below, however, although I don't think it's their best, it's still good **whistles innocently**.

Edit: someone just linked it in another thread, and I do like it a lot

I like Assassin, good running song. There are a lot of great songs on their first album, Grendel, Sript itself, Chelsea Monday.

I think the music, the lyrics and the emotion of the performance is great (they are all live; it's not just all about love stuff either).

No, I think you're pretty much spot on-look at the video, in which he's effectively his own dark side...
Quote:
“I think that might be Uninvited Guest - although I don't know how much the furniture moves (I'm too occupied looking at H in that video). Lavendar, now is not the best song by Marillion - Fish (neither is Kayleigh, which you probably do know). The earlier stuff is much better, and even if you didn't like the music the lyrics are what I call very poetic. This for a long time was a song that made me feel a lot (which is one of Fish's solo songs, the words are very good) and the music is very good.”

I have a soft spot for the Misplaced Childhood stuff as it's when I discovered them, but i do love the early stuff, especially Script. The Company is one of Fish's best solo efforts, he has a great way with words:
the company I choose is solidly singular, totally trustworthy, straight and sincere; polished, experienced, witty and charming, so why don't you push off-this company's my own!

I've been a Marillion fans from the start with Market Square Heroes..

They are a fantastic band and as mentioned above are superb live.

They've done so many brilliant songs but my favourite is probably Jigsaw, in fact the first 2 lines to me are very relevant to the Dr/Amy relationship:-

We are jigsaw pieces aligned on the perimeter edge
Interlocked through a missing piece

Who'd have thought I'd end up talking about my favourite group on a Dr Who thread....

From Fugazi, right? I haven't heard that song-or indeed that album-in years, as I still only have it on cassette. must dig it out for a listen in the van...

I first saw them live at Hammersmith in '86. Great performance. I still have the t-shirt I bought that day, with the cover image from script on it.

That's the one, probably my favourite album of their's, well worth another listen...

I love the artwork of their early albums.....

I love that song, and I assume it's the beauty of a forum to discuss different things. It's nice for once to concentrate on things we share rather than things we disagree on..

You should dig it out, it's a very good album. I still have the old LP's and I have some special ones as well. I said it before, I envy you that you were able to see them live (I was too young, and then Fish left).

The singles were often quite striking, too-the cover of Assassing is very striking. But I think the jester is still their most enduring image, for me.

The early art work is very good, I think Fish still works with the original artist (Mark something I think). I have one of these special singles, which is shaped like the jester (with Kayleigh and Freaks on it). I got it for £5 in a carboot sale.

I SAID! STOP ARGU......................oh. You have. That's odd. Usually threads are devoured by arguing but this one seems to have survived. Whoopee!

Hurrah for niceness!

I was very lucky. It's this one . They might be quite cheap now?

It is Mark Wilkinson, thanks. Fish is still promoting his work everywhere and his artwork on Vigil was very good as well.
