Generally very impressed with my unit (slighlty soft SD pics over HDMI apart). However, I've just had something happen that's worrying me.

The box was being used to view the EPG (no recordings of any channels being made) when I became aware of a loud whirring noise coming from it. I suspected the 'never ever likely to but it's there just in case' fan had come on but, feeling round the back, I couldn't detect any airflow and the case didn't seem at all warm. After around 2 minutes, the whirring noise ramped down to a lower, though still quite audible, level. It stayed at this level for around 5 minutes by which time I decided to switch my box in and out of standby to see what happened. On switching to standby, the whirring noise stopped completely. On switching back out of standby, the box powered up again but to its usual barely audible noise level.

Has anyone else experienced this yet?

Yes there is a fan, and that sounds like it. On ours we found initially the fan was quite noisy when it ramped up, but it seems to have "run in" now and it now goes un-noticed.

I'd give it a week and see if it becomes quieter when the bearings in the fan have bedded in and stopping racing around the shaft.

Regards

Phil
