I'm looking at getting a new phone but I'm a bit confused by the android market/smart phones in general. Although originally last year I was looking at getting an iPhone there seems to be quite a few people unhappy with theirs and to be honest it looks like you are paying for the name rather than the technology. So I'm looking at alternatives (particularly the Galaxy S/HTC Desire/X10) and have a few questions hopefully someone can help!
1) From what I gather most other phones like the HTC Desire/Samsung Galaxy S/Blackberrys have their own (Google) versions of apps. Essentially the same to many iPhone apps but called a different names, is this correct? and are they inferior to iPhone apps?
2) What is Android 2.2 and do the Desire/Galaxy S come with this (firmware?) already installed?
3)Is it possible to download BBC iPlayer onto Galaxy S/Desire?
Finally, what are the main differences between the 'other makes' and the iPhone?
Sorry about twenty questions but I want to make the right choice! Many thanks for everyones help in advance!
