Can Apple TV HDMI be connected to a non hd tv via an adapter?

I've ordered the new Apple TV solely to use for youtube streaming and itunes streaming and have two hd tvs at home. However at my mum's house I have a flat screen non hd tv and wondered if there was any way I could connect the hdmi cable from the Apple tv to a non hdmi tv.

Any advice would be appreciated.

What's the make and model of the flat screen at your mum's house?

If it does not have any form of digital video connector, either HDMI or DVI then you are going to have a problem.

HDMI and DVI are electrically compatible with each other so a simple lead or adapter converting the plug types is all that is required to connect them. Though DVI won't do audio only video so you will need an alternative connection for the sound.

If however the TV only has SCART you need rather more than a simple lead. HDMI is a digital format, SCART and any other video connection format using phono sockets you commonly find on the back of TVs are analogue.

So you will need a box full of electronics to convert the digital HDMI to analogue which can be expensive.

Hi thanks for the replies. I don't know what make it is to be honest I can't remember. I think I will just hook it up to the main tv when I'm down.
