Replaced by 'a web site' to attract more members.

The club was launched in 1976 as the Dennis the Menace Fan Club.

It will be replaced in the next few months with a new website and will be known simply as Beano.com.

The old Beano Club cost £12.99 a year, and included a newsletter and birthday card among other benefits.

A spokesman for the DC Thomson said the publisher had not yet decided whether Beano.com would be free or be run as a subscription model with different levels of access.

That article is badly mistaken. The Beano Club launched in 1998 and has always used the annual subscription model. The club which launched in 1976 and had the badges was the Dennis the Menace Fan Club which ended about 10 years ago. That club was life membership for a one off fee. The two clubs are separate entities.

I remember wanting to sign up for the Beano club but I never got around to it or something. What a shame The old Beano website (beanotown.com) used to be really good. I loved the games on there Wonder what the new one'll be like.

beanotown.com is currently a cross between a blog and a message board. I assume the new site will replace it as well as the Club.

Beano Club isn't the only thing DCT are axing. Bye bye Classics from the Comics!
